Report – Club Want To Bring Carroll Back But Steve Bruce Wants Two Other Strikers First

We’ve been waiting for it to happen and have been hesitant to suggest it. In fact, I mentioned it to my wife just this morning.

Now Luke Edwards of the Telegraph and Lee Ryder of the Chronicle are both reporting that Andy Carroll is wanted back at Newcastle.

Luke Edwards’ report has some interesting details that this may not be driven by Steve Bruce. Here is some of what Luke has written about the news of Andy Carroll:

Newcastle United are contemplating bringing striker Andy Carroll back home as they close in on the £35m capture of Hoffenheim’s Brazilian striker Joelinton.

The club are already in touch with the Carroll camp following his release by West Ham and will keep a close eye on his recovery from ankle surgery before deciding whether to sign him as a free agent.

Carroll, meanwhile, is not a priority for new manager Steve Bruce, who privately wants at least two strikers, a winger, a full-back and a central midfield player before the close of the transfer window.

Carroll would be an additional transfer outside of the window as he is allowed to find a new club as a free agent. However, it will still be several weeks until the 30-year-old is able to train fully and Bruce wants two strikers brought in before then.

Carroll has had a persistent battle with injuries and has undergone a complicated procedure to try and solve a long-standing ankle issue. Newcastle will keep tabs on his rehabilitation and could look at thrashing out a pay as you play deal for the Geordie striker.

If this is the case then we are all for it. As long as Andy is not going to be relied upon, then we see no harm in bringing him back to the club as maybe a third striker signing.

We don’t think it really matters how fit he gets as he is always going to be likely to break down. Therefore, if it was just Joelinton and Andy Carroll we would be a bit concerned.

However, Luke Edwards is reporting that Steve Bruce wants two strikers brought in and then will assess Andy Carroll once he is declared fit.

Lee Ryder also speaks of Carroll’s fitness as being key. He however is reporting that Bruce is an admirer of Andy and has already made checks on his fitness.

This is what Lee writes:

The Chronicle understands Bruce is an admirer of Carroll but wants him to prove his fitness.

The newly appointed head coach has already made checks on Carroll’s fitness status with the big striker still recovering from an ankle operation.

Carroll has not made a decision on his future yet but has had offers from abroad.

However, the boyhood Toon fan and former season ticket holder would be interested in a chance to finish his career at home.

This link was bound to happen sooner than later and the hiring of Steve Bruce will have only expedited the link. Andy has had a torrid time with injuries throughout his career and at 30 years old may not have much left to give.

We would like to think that playing in front of the crowd at St James Park could bring that little bit extra out of Andy. As a late-game substitute, he could really cause issues for the opposition.

This could be a decent piece of business as long as Andy Carroll is not going to be relied upon to lead the line.

i agree carroll is divisive …but to have on the bench when fit as a tactical sub would be worth it…ask yourself would you fancy carroll coming on against you with fifteen minutes to go with long balls being slung into the box ..i,d rather have him on wor team than face him..opposing manager would also have one eye on him when putting on subs..
dont know what he would be like on sidelines may be disruptive influence …you will not know till you try..

Just a passing comment on the hate, rage, and vitriol by many posters over a Long time, but particularly repellent re our new manager, whose CV is very widely known, particularly being an NUFC fan, like us. I won’t waste my breathe asking the Super-neggers to change their spots but, honestly, for a committed life-Long NUFC fan, this blog has become toxic, unedifying, and wholly unrepresentative of your regular, put-upon, but still passionate NUFC supporter. Only saying.

My claim to fame is that I taught Andy for a year back in 2002 in Gateshead. He wasn’t great at maths but he was a canny lad.

Can’t see him wanting to come back to Newcastle with Ashley still here, or Ashley wanting him back due to his age and injury record.

If a bang average accountant could reveal the books to be cooked – why haven’t they? Why do all those on Twitter and elsewhere in that profession, not claim that?

Why haven’t you and the other bird brains either put your powers of intellect together to investigate and substantiate your bollocks with detail or, found a bang average accountant to do so on your behalf?

You’ve made tow claims that require evidence.

    1) Ashley has siphoned off cash

    2) this would be easy enough to prove with an average accountant.

Surely proving this unequivocally would be the best way to win over many more thousands to your point of view and hasten Ashley’s exit. You’ve got no reason not to pursue this other than you prefer to stew in piss and vinegar in perpetuity instead.

So over to you and your merry band. You’ve got work to do.

Bring back evidence for your claims and I will apologise and be a fully on board

Going to have to keep posting this because posters keep popping up, and I am starting to think people are deliberately missing the point of the negative reaction to Bruce

It’s not peoples personal feelings against Bruce, they are irrelevant. Its what his appointment represents:- The total lack of ambition of NUFC.

    For balance.

The only oddity on the accounts was last year when us not spending more money was explained by onerous contract provisions to the tune of about £25m. It wasn’t concealed, it was there in the open, we in effect have wrote off a bunch of contracts as losses. I’m assuming those such as Saivet, Lazaar, Aarons among others, so they should no longer be a factor in the wage bill as they have been written off already.

Accountants on Twitter explained this at the time of the release of the figures.

Since 2010 (haven’t been able to find the numbers before that) Sports Direct FC has brought in approximately 662.3 million only in prize/tv money. No ticket sales, no merchandising nothing else. SD FC has a outlay of 5 million on buying players and supposedly have paid 30million on a loan. So since 2010 that’s a profit of 627.3 million. However after wages etc., etc. there is no money. So apparently SD FC operates at only a 5% profit margin.

£30 in from Perez and they want to bring in Carroll on a pay per game basis? Ok, so there’s talk of £35 for Joelinton but surely to christ they can’t.
