Report – Club Want To Bring Carroll Back But Steve Bruce Wants Two Other Strikers First

We’ve been waiting for it to happen and have been hesitant to suggest it. In fact, I mentioned it to my wife just this morning.

Now Luke Edwards of the Telegraph and Lee Ryder of the Chronicle are both reporting that Andy Carroll is wanted back at Newcastle.

Luke Edwards’ report has some interesting details that this may not be driven by Steve Bruce. Here is some of what Luke has written about the news of Andy Carroll:

Newcastle United are contemplating bringing striker Andy Carroll back home as they close in on the £35m capture of Hoffenheim’s Brazilian striker Joelinton.

The club are already in touch with the Carroll camp following his release by West Ham and will keep a close eye on his recovery from ankle surgery before deciding whether to sign him as a free agent.

Carroll, meanwhile, is not a priority for new manager Steve Bruce, who privately wants at least two strikers, a winger, a full-back and a central midfield player before the close of the transfer window.

Carroll would be an additional transfer outside of the window as he is allowed to find a new club as a free agent. However, it will still be several weeks until the 30-year-old is able to train fully and Bruce wants two strikers brought in before then.

Carroll has had a persistent battle with injuries and has undergone a complicated procedure to try and solve a long-standing ankle issue. Newcastle will keep tabs on his rehabilitation and could look at thrashing out a pay as you play deal for the Geordie striker.

If this is the case then we are all for it. As long as Andy is not going to be relied upon, then we see no harm in bringing him back to the club as maybe a third striker signing.

We don’t think it really matters how fit he gets as he is always going to be likely to break down. Therefore, if it was just Joelinton and Andy Carroll we would be a bit concerned.

However, Luke Edwards is reporting that Steve Bruce wants two strikers brought in and then will assess Andy Carroll once he is declared fit.

Lee Ryder also speaks of Carroll’s fitness as being key. He however is reporting that Bruce is an admirer of Andy and has already made checks on his fitness.

This is what Lee writes:

The Chronicle understands Bruce is an admirer of Carroll but wants him to prove his fitness.

The newly appointed head coach has already made checks on Carroll’s fitness status with the big striker still recovering from an ankle operation.

Carroll has not made a decision on his future yet but has had offers from abroad.

However, the boyhood Toon fan and former season ticket holder would be interested in a chance to finish his career at home.

This link was bound to happen sooner than later and the hiring of Steve Bruce will have only expedited the link. Andy has had a torrid time with injuries throughout his career and at 30 years old may not have much left to give.

We would like to think that playing in front of the crowd at St James Park could bring that little bit extra out of Andy. As a late-game substitute, he could really cause issues for the opposition.

This could be a decent piece of business as long as Andy Carroll is not going to be relied upon to lead the line.

The neggers aren’t taken in by” It’s always been my dream to manage my hometown club” pass the sick bag .

Bruce wouldn’t think twice about taking a dump on his hometown club as he did Sheff/Wed if ManU came a calling.

How does it go, “It has always been my dream to manage the top club in the PL that I served for many yrs as a player .?

My numbers are simple but only for an example…..I know there is much more money incoming as well as more than wages outgoing. My point is simply that IF you believe there is no money as is constantly claimed, where is it? because there is no way SD FC have only .55% or .0055 profit annually.

£30m in from Perez and a few in for Joselu then talk of £35m for Joelnton and now they want Carroll on a pay per game basis?

C’mon ffs, they can’t be saying they’re skint already – or has it cost £90m to paint the friggin stadium?

I wonder if they showed Bruce the plans for the training centre upgrade? He’ll be delighted when he sees bigger wheelie bins and a super size kids pool being delivered.

Bruce is in for a rude awakening

The summary accounts may be available, but not the detailed transactional data. For example if a team pays out X number of dollars on wages (players, management, staff, grounds keepers, etc) that is not itemized anywhere that I have seen anyone discuss.

Same goes for other expenses. Not until a person can see the detail ledgers can they really know where the money goes. That detail is not available via companies house is it? If it is, NY Mag, please send the links to those detail ledgers!

There seem to be a lot of new posters (or even some who claim never to have posted for yonks) who are making supportive noises towards Ashley’s ownership.

Bishop’s been very busy recruiting them all and his selection process is pretty rigorous – if they can read, copy type and the mirror steams up when they breath on it, they’re in.

To date, toon22 despite his constant posts which could be toned down, has been right by saying the club won’t be sold etc. So rather than skipping his posts to those they want to read (as most people do), they feel the need to hound him and give him the attention he craves.

To those abusing the people who have shared info regarding the possible takeovers, should wind their necks back in. Is it personally their fault that things haven’t happened/progressed as they have stated, no.They like all Toon fans want nothing more than a takeover to actually happen, and for us to be rid of the one man who is suffocating the club to death. I for one have enjoyed reading the snippets and appreciate they done this for the benefit of the majority on here rather than for their own ego’s. Until the club is sold, signed sealed and delivered, MA always has it in him to move the goalposts and muck it up. We have to unite as one in order to rid us from MA clutches, rather than abuse each other on here and in general acting like childish bullies

    NUFC – 1. WEST HAM – 0

Well that’s put the cat amongst the Magpies!

    So, what next?

Boycott the Arsenal game. What will that prove? and most importantly who will that hurt?

A very successful Boycott, say an attendance of less than 40,000. (probably unlikely,) will only prove that 10,000 fans were prepared to sacrifice one, pre-paid game on their season ticket.

Ashole will probably release some cheap seats to students, to compensate.

A Boycott will only be a minor irritation to Mike ‘Pants on Fire’ Ashole!

I don’t live in Newcastle, my home is in London, there are about 8 million people living in London. A large percentage of that group of people, about 10% of the UK population, will know about ‘Sports Direct’ and possibly Mike Ashley.

There are a lot of Sports Direct shops in London, they are in every High Street and every Shopping Mall. The success of the Business is obviously critical to the share price of the company!

Hurt the share price of Sports Direct, and you hurt MA in the place that really hurts him, his wallet!

If Sports Direct was a political party, to damage its reputation with the public the best strategy would be to use the media,

Carroll simply makes sense if you can get him on that kind of deal. Gives him every incentive to stay fit and although he won’t need it as he never has particularly when he was here, to perform and give his all to stay in the team.

He is the best player in the air in the PL and perhaps the world.

Gladly take him as it releases cash for other positions.

Tavernier could come in and Manquillo be used primarily as LWB backup to Ritchie. So I may have been wrong earlier when I said to Jib I can’t see him coming without Yedlin or Manquillo leaving.

Seems to have developed really well in Scottish football, excellent going forward. Looks like a more controlled and technical Yedlin these days and obviously must be a top pro and good character for him to be captain up there.

Then for me we’d just need another CM given we’re going to be playing 3 by looks of things.

    Sorry for talking football.

After watching today and how we set up wheres Almiron going to play?

If it stays 2 up front is he going to play LWB where Ritchie has been?

I kinda like that idea, hes got a great engine and we’ve seen the freedom Richie has had there.

    Ashley out.

You’ve got some valid points – particularly about transfer spend and where the money’s gone over the last 12 years.

Someone suggested the national press might be interested in the numbers – why don’t you take some time to pen a piece with the key points and send it to the Chron and the national papers?

That is a serious suggestion that might go some way to countering the lies and half-truths that Bishop’s got them buying in to.

That team is good enough for the top 10 at least. A successful summer would mean 5 new signings on top of the one’s we’ve sold. Now Lazaar’s back in the picture, I believe we just need one left back and one right back. Sell Lascelles and Clark for £40m and sign Daniel Agger for £2m. I’d sell the following:

    Lascelles – £32m
    Clark – £8m
    Manquillo – £5m
    Dummett – £8m
    Colback – £2m
    Gayle – £20m
Longstaff – £50m but no less

If Steve Bruce is reading, please sign:

    Brahimi – Free
    Abel Hernandez – Free
    Abeid – Free
    Raphael Guerriero – £25m
    Mateta – £30m
    Savarino – £6m
    Sebastien Corchia – £5m
    Daniel Agger – £2m
    Iniesta – £10m
