It’s not often that a Newcastle incoming transfer will make headlines for its extravagance in a business magazine. But that is what has happened as Forbes magazine has done a feature on the Joelinton deal to Newcastle, which incidentally is yet to be announced.
Here is a tweet from the author of the Forbes article Manuel Veth.
Kicker are writing that Joelinton is expected to be presented by Newcastle United on Monday. For more on #Hoffenheim's forward check out my latest on @ForbesEurope (#NUFC) https://t.co/Wm1TEMzEcb
— Manuel Veth (@ManuelVeth) July 21, 2019
The article starts with details of the money Hoffenheim will make this summer off their outgoing transfers (over €100m). Apparently their Sporting director Alexander Rosen predicted that the club could make that much if they wanted.
This is what Rosen said a few weeks ago:
“If we want to we could earn over €100 million (£90 million) by selling players this transfer window.”
At that point they had already made €57m in the sales of two players. The Joelinton deal was most likely already in the works at that time as well.
The article then delves into Joelinton’s journey from Brazilian side Sport Recife as an 18 year old to an almost £50m Premier League signing for Newcastle United. It is an excellent article with lots of information on our soon to be record signing.
The article also details how Hoffenheim sign and develop young talent.
We certainly hope to see Joelinton announced soon and the word is that he may be unveiled in the new away strip.

Comment #4We all know the drill people, it’s very simple, don’t believe a word that comes out of anywhere until players have actually passed medicals and are holding shirts for the cams.
Even then still question it though ahaha.

Agreed, even rafa would struggle to keep this squad as it is in the league. Unless, at least 4 good players are brought in were absolute relegation fodder regardless of whos in charge.

Comment #13Joelinton on signing for newcastle.
“After talking to the club i was blown away by the project on offer, that there 10 years into a 5 year plan or was it more i can’t remeber. Im very excited to fight mr Ashley’s customary relegation battles and exiting the cups at the first hurdle. Hopefully i wont be too successful as i know ill be flogged to the highest bidder for some vastly inorbitant fee after 1 season. Bit what really sold the move for me was being able to jump in the paddling pool ibe heard so much about”.

Comment #19Tarquin, i’m laughing at you. Nicky knows more about football than you. By a long way. I have coached and captained teams and supported nufc since the late 70s. But you try to lecture guys like me, Tarquin ? You know sod all and because i dared to question some of the work the mighty Benitez did, you decided to stone the blasphemer. Well guess what, i had the balls to critically analyse what i was looking at. But you couldn’t evaluate any negative rafa tactics:
1. Because you go with the crowd
2. Because you have zero football knowledge
3 Because you try to look important by bullying people.
But guys like me are not afraid to see good and in a manager. And, critically, are not afraid to publicly call it because im not influenced by the catcalling. So i picked up on some rafa stuff early on, and others did too, but i was quicker, perhaps, to vocalise it. I also praised him strongly especially last season. I’d prefer if he had stayed.
Go play Mr Popular lecturer Tarquin, because your real life football knowledge isnt worth a dime. Meanwhile, allow many others the right to support and love nufc, despite it’s idiot owner, and let the new boss try to make a success of it, without guys like you wanting him sacked before he starts.
Welcome to real world of professional sport Tarquin. But please not sociology lectures.

Comment #27Even if we were a club that historically was a big spender, which we aint, Joelinton is going to have to really impress us to be worth his cost.
I was also going to say there’ll be some red faces if he flops but I can’t help thinking that that wouldn’t bother Ashlie.

Comment #28I wonder who will actually receive the credit or blame, as the case may be with Joelinton. Neither Benitez nor Bruce are really in the frame for his signing. I suppose he’s a Charnley/Nickson acquisition more than anything.

Correct
The whole toon army thing for me started around the John hall era and the media picked up on it
Seem to remember reading it was even copyrighted for merchandising rights too.
Personally never really liked hearing and like you I say Newcastle United and hate hearing people refer to us by that name in media
Just all sounds a bit plastic to me .
Same as most of the kids doing match day blog’s they have no real idea of a time when it wasn’t toon army this toon army that
Saying that though if anyone wants toon used in there moniker I have no issues with that .

Reading your post, clearly i understand your perspective on the “toon” thingy.
As a Newcastle fans abroad, surly we would love to understand more deeper on the history and culture of this beloved club and understand and discuss things as such from yourself as this club will always stay hang in our hearts.
As things revolutionise, people with ownership will not bother too much unless it suits their purpose.
ps: for me the “toon” thing is more of a slang that i belong.
