Has Steve Bruce Sanctioned This Player’s Sale?

Alan Nixon of the Sun has reported that Newcastle will try and offload Dwight Gayle for £15m this summer. While this revelation is not necessarily new, it is the first we have heard of it since Steve Bruce has joined.

It seemed as if every player was going to be given a clean slate with the arrival of the new head coach. Players like Achraaf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons, and Jack Colback have featured heavily in our two pre-season games.

However, the squad is paper-thin at the moment so some fringe players were always likely to feature while reinforcements are being recruited. Even Jacob Murphy was deployed up front in the pre-season match yesterday.

One player that has not featured thus far is striker Dwight Gayle who has been out with a slight calf injury.

We wonder if Steve Bruce has already made up his mind on Gayle and thus sanctioned his sale for the funds to be used in other areas of need.

Dwight Gayle– would be a bargain for a Championship club

This is what Nixon has tacked on to the end of his report about Newcastle’s interest in Burnley winger Dwight McNeil:

Dwight Gayle is also set to leave, with a £15m asking price. That would?provide extra cash to buy other players.

Currently, only Dwight Gayle and Yoshinori Muto are first-team strikers at Newcastle. The club have sold Joselu and Ayoze Perez with last year’s player of the season, Salomon Rondon, linking up with Rafa Benitez in China yesterday.

We hope that Joelinton will be announced tomorrow and unveiled in the new away strip. That will be a historic signing for this club.

Newcastle have also been linked with Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Genk goalscorer Mbwana Samatta as they look to bring in another striker in addition to Joelinton.

Over the past day, the inevitable links to Andy Carroll and Danny Welbeck have grown more prominent as well.

If Newcastle were to bring in three strikers this summer including either Welbeck or Carroll on a free, that would give them enough reinforcements at the position.

It would also mean that Dwight Gayle would likely be expendable and the £15m he would command could be used to bring players in other areas of need.

We would like to see Dwight given an opportunity as he might do well alongside another striker. However he is due to turn 29 in October, and the club could be looking to cash in while he has maximum value.

That time would be now as next summer he will be that much closer to thirty while having only a year left on his contract.

He should be in high demand for a Championship club looking to make a strong run at promotion. When fit he is almost a certainty to score at least 20 goals a season.

His wage demands, however, could be a roadblock to any deal with a Championship club. Though he should have plenty of options and one might be willing to give him a bit more as promotion is such a lucrative proposition for Championship clubs.

    Hiya

My point is that you are not contributing positively, you are just irritating.

Anyone can be irritating, but it takes effort to make people laugh.

Being a “toon supporter” is often not something you can take or leave. You could say you are born with it. I could be regarded as a curse.

But it is a much heavier burden when you have “fellow supporters” who punch horses, or repeatedly post “Hiya” with the specific intention of being a pain in the arse to people who are interested in what others have to say.

We’ll get more than 18 million for cabs and they’ll say the player wanted to leave and that it’s almost impossible to keep a player who wants to leave.
18 million is still great money for someone who has given up on Pardews footballing philosophy

Why haven’t the rags linked us with Gareth Bale? Very remiss.

Being kicked out of Real Madrid so perhaps they’ll pay his wages for a year with us before he joins up with Rafa in China. Seems only fair.

In a weird way I want to see Gayle sold. I’d be far more concerned if we were keeping him.

Injury scare re Shelvey – Bruce apparently sat down too quickly and Shelvey couldn’t get his head out of Bruce’s ass fast enough – Quote – Steve has been like a breath of fresh air after Rafa – WTF (maybe misquoted and the quote was Steve is a has been after Rafa and I need a breath of fresh air)
