Surprising News On BZG Takeover – Group Still Keen On Newcastle

It’s Sunday, so we expected something on the potential (is this all still real?) takeover of Newcastle United.

Since Rafa left at the end of last month, everything has gone quiet on the takeover front, so Mike Ashley looks to have survived another transfer window at Newcastle?

We knew all about the BZG bid earlier this summer, but the Chronicle also kept reporting there were two other groups looking to buy Newcastle.

But everything has gone very quiet.

But as Neil reported earlier, the Daily Mail are saying that BZG is looking for some financing so they can still buy Newcastle.

The fee is said to be between £300M and £350M.

The reporter Ben Harrington is one of the Mail’s finance reporters.

Today he’s reporting that an American hedge fund backed by Japanese investment firm SoftBank have been in talks with the Dubai-based Bin Zayed Group.

The talks are about how they can finance a deal to buy Newcastle.

It looks like the group is still interested in buying the club, but how come they don’t have the money when they were trying to buy Liverpool a year ago for £2B?

Or at least that was the news at the time.

Borrowing a lot of money is how the Glazer family bought Manchester United back in May 2005, and they borrowed a lot of money to buy the club for £790M.

Since then the Red Devils have been in a lot of debt.

Most of the money was borrowed against assets of the Manchester United club, and at one point the club incurred interest payments of over £60M a year.

The family then took the club private, with an initial public offering (IPO) which created even more debt – that was back in 2012.

The fans were wondering when all this debt would be paid off, and in 2010 it exceeded £700M – but they still carry too much debt even today.

That may not be the case with BZG – it will depend on how much they are looking to borrow – if it’s £100M or less then that can be managed but more than that and it would not be good.

There are three two weeks International breaks before Christmas, and we’d be surprised it a takeover attempt isn’t reported during those windows – when there tends to be a lack of real news.

That news could be true or not – but it does seem BZG are still keen on buying Newcastle.

Where’s there’s a will there’s a way?

Hopefully, the incompetent and selfish Mike Ashley is on borrowed time, and after the catastrophe of Ashley forcing Rafa out of the club, we can still get new owners.

But it’s like going around in circles – because with five top-six teams in our first nine league games we are likely to be fighting relegation fairly quickly this season.

And the reports will be that Newcastle’s relegation threat is putting buyers off.

But we’ve heard all that before – far too many times.

We don’t know if Ashley will sell the club, but we hope he will and that it’s soon.

We live in hope.

Comments welcome.

A boycott is – THE ONLY WAY we can hurt Jabba, one game, just one game in front of the sky cameras would be so embarrassing for the soul sucker of an owner.
Short term pain for long term gain.

Yawn – I’m bored of this takeover… In other news ..

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale is “very close to leaving” the Spanish club, says boss Zinedine Zidane.

The Wales international, 30, was left out of Real’s 3-1 pre-season defeat by Bayern Munich in Houston, USA.

Speaking after the game, Zidane said: “We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team.

Seen as a natural replacement for both Ritchie and Atsu it’s thought Newcastle are willing to sell the whole team and just play woodman , a bunch of dummies and Bale ..

If this is true about the hedge fund, could it be because the FA don’t like the idea of the money coming from the Middle East or something else to do with the fit person test, so they use the USA hedge fund and then pay them directly back. Same for transfers etc or at least until sponsorship can be sorted

Bettyswallocks, someone will shout me down for this, but, as i said a while back, the rumours here were/are that BZG are a “front” if you like for the real buyers – a bit like Staveley and Kenyon were, I never said that they were doing it with their own money. If they are looking at finance maybe their backers got cold feet/didn’t pass tests then BZG thought let’s do this ourselves?

This is only my thoughts. They have spent a Majlis (google is your friend) full of money on this, I’d guess it’s easily into the millions now, they have an agreed/signed heads of terms so perhaps they’re looking at other ways to complete the purchase.

    Don’t shoot the messenger.

Being positive is nothing about “Jabba”.

My point is that you are repeating yourself and consequently being an irritant. I, for instance, would like to read the comments from other people on this blog whether I agree with them or not.

    You spoil it.

Why don’t BZG ask Ashley for a loan, he doesn’t mind a loan or two, not sure if the terms will be favourable.

Gareth Bale’s granny comes from Shiremoor and if you get his boots off you’ll find he has 12 toes. So he really is a Geordie and Brucie will get him in the new Geordie United team of soccer ballers. (Just a joke for anyone who may take this seriously)

If we are to believe this story and the BZG statement via DJSmiley, the obvious conclusion would be that the FA are not satisfied with the source of the funds. It doesn’t mean BZG doesn’t have money.
If it is true that they are seeking finance for the purchase of NUFC, then this suggests that the deal is basically done. They will not be happy bunnies if they secure finance only for Ashley to shift the goal posts again.

Until we hear fat AshLIE come out and say ‘Tyre-kickers are the reason we couldn’t break our transfer record 5 times ‘ and ‘Its all their fault ‘ then to me it’s still on.

Ash would love nothing more than to call this off because he can blame the buyer and stay another season with advertising and merchandising , pl money….

    But he hasn’t !

We are not even worthy of a statement from our illustrious leader to tell the fans where it’s at.

Bloody frustrating for all of us and he will enjoy knowing that.

Midhat allegedly said it was still happening but ‘ in a different way ‘….

I am still hopeful, I would rather have the hope than accept Ash is here to stay – but this is my choice, others will disagree.

Could be that it’s due to the FA not being happy with the source of funds. Could also mean that this is a bridging loan as they are asset rich and not cash rich. I heard from a few ppl they did not have the funds liquidated, not that BZG couldn’t afford the club, just liquidating assets quickly is difficult. But we also heard that the funds were in an escrow so IDK.

I can’t believe the Joelinton transfer is held up over length of contract, because we’re planning the sell on in 2 years so we need to sign him for 4 years!
It would be nice if we were buying him to bring us success on the field rather than a bloody investment!
Somehow this sums up the difference between the fans and the owner’s ambition! That is not why Sky pump in money! Pathetic!

    Bill’s son is back,
How come you are so sure the honest Mikey isn’t to blame here. If he really wanted to sell and there was for arguments sake 60M to spend this summer, do you think we’d go bust if Rafa was paid 8M a year and allowed to spend that money as he saw fit, we’d be pretty much guaranteed 10th and in a very healthy position to a potential buyer. It wouldn’t matter at all if Rondon was to leave for free in three years time as we’d have new owners, I think given his stance it’s pretty obvious that he doesn’t want to sell.

Being that I’m in the States, and hearing about how an American hedge fund is possibly involved, I put out some feelers and heard that the possible investors need a few assurances before they’ll commit to buying.

Firstly, a written contract from Barca and Messi that he’ll definitely sign for us. Secondly, that we’ll add the Stars and Stripes to our strip (yes, that’ll mean red and white stripes on our shirt). And thirdly, that Ashley will send Charnley’s severed head in a box to a remote desert location.

My sources said we should be hearing something by tomorrow night. Or next weekend. Or sometime in August. Probably.

I’m also tracking a speedboat registered to someone that’s probably involved with the hedge fund that left Boston this morning headed for the Tyne. I estimate it’ll run out of petrol in about three hours.

It’s definitely got something to do with the takeover though.

Howay man, we’re not for sale, wtf would we pursue a 36M Joelinton( if true) when a 16.5M Rondon could have been had with guaranteed goals, it’s because the fat man is fully expecting to be here to collect the dosh if he’s sold in two years time.

toon22 – want a comedy buyer? Could Ashley set up a private company and buy it from himself? Probably not. He’d never be able to agree a suitable price with himself and Charnley would probably mess up transferring the funds out of Ashley’s bank account and then back into the very same account.

Once again we’re clutching at straws because the disgusting Mike Ashley doesn’t have the common decency to tell the useless Charnley to issue a statement about status of takeover one way or the other. This lot are a disgrace and shouldn’t be allowed to own a football club!
