Surprising News On BZG Takeover – Group Still Keen On Newcastle

It’s Sunday, so we expected something on the potential (is this all still real?) takeover of Newcastle United.

Since Rafa left at the end of last month, everything has gone quiet on the takeover front, so Mike Ashley looks to have survived another transfer window at Newcastle?

We knew all about the BZG bid earlier this summer, but the Chronicle also kept reporting there were two other groups looking to buy Newcastle.

But everything has gone very quiet.

But as Neil reported earlier, the Daily Mail are saying that BZG is looking for some financing so they can still buy Newcastle.

The fee is said to be between £300M and £350M.

The reporter Ben Harrington is one of the Mail’s finance reporters.

Today he’s reporting that an American hedge fund backed by Japanese investment firm SoftBank have been in talks with the Dubai-based Bin Zayed Group.

The talks are about how they can finance a deal to buy Newcastle.

It looks like the group is still interested in buying the club, but how come they don’t have the money when they were trying to buy Liverpool a year ago for £2B?

Or at least that was the news at the time.

Borrowing a lot of money is how the Glazer family bought Manchester United back in May 2005, and they borrowed a lot of money to buy the club for £790M.

Since then the Red Devils have been in a lot of debt.

Most of the money was borrowed against assets of the Manchester United club, and at one point the club incurred interest payments of over £60M a year.

The family then took the club private, with an initial public offering (IPO) which created even more debt – that was back in 2012.

The fans were wondering when all this debt would be paid off, and in 2010 it exceeded £700M – but they still carry too much debt even today.

That may not be the case with BZG – it will depend on how much they are looking to borrow – if it’s £100M or less then that can be managed but more than that and it would not be good.

There are three two weeks International breaks before Christmas, and we’d be surprised it a takeover attempt isn’t reported during those windows – when there tends to be a lack of real news.

That news could be true or not – but it does seem BZG are still keen on buying Newcastle.

Where’s there’s a will there’s a way?

Hopefully, the incompetent and selfish Mike Ashley is on borrowed time, and after the catastrophe of Ashley forcing Rafa out of the club, we can still get new owners.

But it’s like going around in circles – because with five top-six teams in our first nine league games we are likely to be fighting relegation fairly quickly this season.

And the reports will be that Newcastle’s relegation threat is putting buyers off.

But we’ve heard all that before – far too many times.

We don’t know if Ashley will sell the club, but we hope he will and that it’s soon.

We live in hope.

Comments welcome.

If anyone from the recruitment team are reading this blog then get Samatta from Genk signed up. This lad is the real deal and sensibly priced.

I believe the word Toon has been in use for a very long time in association with Newcastle United even though Newcastle is indeed a city.

The Town Moor for example has always, to my recollection, been known as the Toon Moor.

Having a dig at someone cos they use Toon in their user moniker is a very soft and pathetic insult.

Many of us including me use The Toon to refer to our team, does that make me less of a Toon supporter.

The possibility that a partial takeover has already been completed but not divulged for some reason was mooted some days ago! Anyone know if this has any foundation?

Something in this whole takeover saga just does not make sense. I can’t put my finger on it but this goes beyond one side staying quiet and one side offering limited press to assure whoever they were assuring. It seems that either as stated someone moved the finish line or a snag was hit that slowed an already slow process. If they had proof of funds what tripped the deal up? Seems to me that someone did not like something in the fine print and they are working it out and that could be anyone from the people who sanction the deal to lawyers to the parties themselves. Add in we seem to be going after players outside of the preset conditions with sell oj value that we all know about, maybe that is just a smokescreen as well. If all of this is a smokescreen someone should go to jail for fraud and why can’t the press figure it out and give us a clear story. Again certain things are seeming to not make sense here.

AC (in particular) or Welbeck on a pay on play basis would be a very smart move imo.

Also Danny Rose (sceptical) would be a good signing, he still is very much an England player, I’d have thought there’d have been a queue of clubs after him.

It’s clear to me why they hid behind BZG for rafa leaving. It softens the blowback for them and that’s not something new for this regime to shield themselves behind someone else

As for media etc, they dont get it right most of the time and mainly sensationalise things to sell papers but we are taking the word of a group that no one has ever heard of or even knew about for no other reason than our hope to be bought out and our hatred for Ashley.

BZG claimed proof of funds were sent and that paperwork was with PL, then theres silence, apparently they now use a radio DJ to out information. Come on man, I want to believe that Ashley loved the goalposts etc as much as anyone else but this lot have jumped the gun massively and if they had shown Ashley funds then why are an american hedge fund saying they’ve been contacted to take on the debt?

Agreed toon is town, well at least to me it is. I also agree on he’s ready to sell but I dont expect it to be this summer. I think a year or 2 and he’ll defo be gone, especially as the tide has turned big time with fans sentiment if the boycott happens against arsenal.

Previously he could do what he wanted fans would still turn up, once you start losing punters though the games up and he’ll look to jump ship. Let’s hope we can survive the season though

No chance on Carrol Sturidge or Welback.

More chance of a sale tomorrow.

“I bought Newcastle United in May 2007. Newcastle attracted me because everyone in England knows that it has the best fans in football. When the fans are behind the club at St James’ Park it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It is magic. Newcastle’s best asset has been, is and always will be the fans. ”
Mike ashley 2008 same article as before.

He bought the club for you an asset in his eyes.
He needed a loyal fan base, non better than the toon.
He has played on your loyalty for your club from the start. He is a predator that prays on opportunity.
He is and has along be praying on you.
Stand up for your club. Boycott arsenal turn up outside sjp for a protest to show enough is enough. Then get yourself to one of the bars that is offering discount drinks to watch the match.
    One goal, ashley out.

Someone (can’t remember who) said to toon22 that he can’t be a Newcastle supporter cos Toon means town.

And whilst I’m not a huge toon22 fan it seemed to be a pathetic stick to try and beat him with.

Our Toon, my guess is they provided proof of funds at the time of asking but when the pl asked for the proof of legitimacy of the funds they were either reluctant to give or couldn’t prove it, thus borrowing the money from a hedge fund until the takeover happens then paying back the hedge fund (the hedge fund won’t care where the repayment money come s from), either that or the slug has moved the goalposts and BZG need more funds to completely buy him out , I am just hypothesizing as without any statements, we are fumbling in the dark like a couple of teenagers on a first date at the pictures

the fixture list is very strange this year. 5 of the top 6 in the opening 9 games along with a few of the best of the rest. then we have 3 of the top 6 in the last 5 games. How can we have Liverpool and Tottenham right at the start then not play them again until the end? I thought the 2nd half of the season roughly had a similar look to the 1st half.

Mike – not necessarily. We played Leicester and Palace in September last year and then we didn’t play them again until towards the end in April.

Oh no not the Athletes Foot takeover scenario, keeps coming back when you’d thought you’d got rid of all that nonsense and irritation. Speaking of that, Munster, liked your reasoned reply to my plain argument, your best childish put downs and out of touch analysis yet. Oh and don’t touch humour, just a word of advice it’s not your thing. Not saying I’m an expert, but yeah leave that alone. Or are you always being serious? There’s the problem I guess. 😐

Martoon you sound like the abandoned husband disappointed with the ex’s choice of new guy when you talk about Benitez selling out for money. I think that’s a very flimsy way to look at it. Three years of Ashley thwarting your setup you have to plan your career elsewhere. Where is the ideal place to go? A convent? A sabbatical in a cave? The guy likes a challenge and Ashley was prescribing quicksand – you telling me you’d pass up that gig? I think he’s to be applauded for doing something about his convictions, we’ve yet to see if the Geordie fans who wanted him to stay will follow that up with a concerted effort to copy his example and refuse to give Ashley what he most craves – blind loyalty and unlimited spending money.

Fancy £200 on newcastle to go down if this price is rite If that is the case, the Magpies could be an intriguing outside bet to play Championship football next season at a hefty price of 6/1.
