Two Young Star Players Steve Bruce Wants to Bring To Newcastle

The Sun are reporting today that Steve Bruce wants to bring Burnley’s 19-year-old £30M-rated winger Dwight McNeil to Newcastle.

McNeil started his career at Manchester United as a youngster, but joined Burnley in 2014 and came through the Youth Academy at the Turf Moor club.

He broke through into the first team only last season when he played 27 games with 3 goals and 5 assists.

The youngster has speed and is currently contracted to Burnley until 2023 with an option of an extra year.

£30M seems a lot to pay for the young left-winger, but if Bruce can get a good deal for the Tyneside club, he may become a good long-term deal.

Mike Ashley likes to get good young players but doesn’t want to spend £30M on them.

Ben Davies – Preston 23-year-old center-back – Bruce rates this player

Bruce is also reported in the Sun to be keen on Preston center-half Ben Davies who turns 24 next month.

The manager rates the center-back who had an excellent season for the Deepdale club last season.

Davies joined Preston back in 2013 and has had loan spells from 2013 at York City (44), Tranmere Rovers (3), Southport (9), Newport County (19), and Fleetwood Town (22).

He broke into the Preston first team the season before last and has now played 88 times for the Lancashire club with a couple of goals and one assist.

Ben started off as a left-back but has been starring since being switched to center-back, and as a left-footed center-back, he could be in some demand.

Steve Bruce rates the defender, but we don’t know what the fee would be.

It seems the last thing we need at Newcastle is another center-back.

We already have Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune (injured April 3rd – could be fit in a month or two), Federico Fernandez, and Ciaran Clark.

But of course the club will be after young talent, and Bruce could always move Ciaran Clark out of the club before August 8th, the end of the transfer window.

It does seem as though the new Newcastle manager wants to sign four or five new players before he lets anybody leave the club before August 8th.

As a reminder – we haven’t signed one player so far this summer.

Hopefully, we will get at least a couple through the door next week.

It looks like 22-year-old Brazilian striker Joelinton (full name – Joelinton Cassio Apolinario de Lira) from Hoffenheim could be the first signing – for around an initial £35M.

That deal could be completed tomorrow?

Hope so.

Comments welcome.

toon22, If you are serious about roundabout blockades and not just a keyboard protester, here is the police pdf for dealing with protesters. It contains protest techniques and the police techniques to deal with them. Also, here is some further reading.
It’s a good idea to have people filming to stop private security/police from excessive force and actions that would endanger protesters. It is an ideal situation to get messages across with banners etc highlighting the poor working conditions etc at SD. This would get more attention/support at a national level than it being about just the football club and local journalists/tv stations can be contacted when nearly in place.

Using the term Toon is like using the term Notts. Some on here don’t like that

    Toon22

Watch Steve Bruce getting the team to play attractive football, and forget about the boring tactics and formation Rafa used to play.

I don’t think there’s much point in debating what the term toon means
It’s never changed it’s meaning in my lifetime
    Doubt it ever will

Personally I think a static protest would be easy for the police to move
A go slow would be harder for them to deal with
