Both the Sun and the Mirror are reporting that Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri want Newcastle players as part of the compensation package for Steve Bruce.
The crux of the story from the Sun is that Newcastle believe they can escape any legal action from Sheffield Wednesday as they acted in good faith and were willing to pay Steve Bruce’s release clause.
According to Martin Blackburn of the Sun, Newcastle believe it was, in fact, Dejphon Chansiri who acted irrationally in making demands outside of Bruce’s contract that has led to the dispute between the two clubs
Blackburn reports that Newcastle refused to allow Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar to join Sheffield Wednesday as part of the deal. The refusal to do so the led Chansiri to put a halt to further talks about Bruce’s compensation package.
Blackburn does not clarify if Chansiri wanted Aarons and Lazaar on loan or on permanent deals, though we would have to suspect it would be on loan.
Roland Aarons– wanted on loan as part of Bruce compensation
That is what Simon Mullock of the Mirror reports, however, he paints a bit of a different story but with similar details to what Blackburn reports.
Mullock says the Chansiri is now willing to stop all legal action against Mike Ashley if they allow Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar to return to Hillsborough this season on loan.
Mullock further reports that Sheffield Wednesday wanted a channel put in place where they could easily have other Newcastle players sent on loan while only paying a low percentage of their wages.
The Mirror really paint Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce as the victims as they claim the release fee is far less than the reported. They also make the case that Steve Bruce acted completely professional as he contacted Chansiri with all developments as they were happening to keep him in the loop.
This is an interesting turn of events and we are somewhat skeptical that this is exactly as is being portrayed here. There may very well have been negotiations involving the players mentioned but these reports seem to be very one-sided in benefitting Mike Ashley.
We would expect that it is somewhere in the middle as both the owners are probably stubborn negotiators. We certainly know that Mike Ashley is.
We will wait to see what comes of any legal action from the Owls, but if these reports are true then we don’t blame Newcastle for taking a hard stance. Though we are doubtful it played out exactly like is being reported here.

Comment #2If we are announcing Joelinton today surely that means he has been in Toon over the weekend and there would be some pictures on Twitter etc. If he is flying in today then expect airport pics at about 10.40 when the Dusseldorf flight lands.

Comment #3They can have lazaar, still think if Aaron’s had a full season injury free he would be good enough in the prem.

Comment #4I wouldn’t be too disappointed in this deal tbh both are useless and makes room for hopefully some better players than these two.

Comment #6Apparently the club have told Dejphon Chansiri to get lost.
His lawyers have probably told him that the litigious Ashley’s
legal team will murder him in court.

Comment #8Bills son – actually that’s the point I don’t agree with the childish name calling and especially the foul mouthed insults (alright i take the rise sometimes and its meaning gets lost in print so some get offended easily) , that’s why you won’t find anything like that said by me against you. You’re fine to have your opinion but some of us don’t like it challenged, so they resort to that, hence my post showing how futile it is, again irony is lost on some.
I’m not responding to Munster any more because he doesn’t refute or challenge what I say he just gets petty hence his lying loudmouth tirades. It would be far better if he could refute the exact reasons I state the club is in a mess and the manager is a totally cynical appointment he just ascribes inaccurate statements and plain lies. Anyway I discount his support the manager the team Ashley etc tosh because he’s sitting a thousand miles away in Ireland so it doesn’t affect him.
And saying there’s a groundswell of opinion against me represented by perennial crank veltman (who is beyond weird btw ) and check the toastie….well. 🙂

Comment #9So when we get joelinton in and the marquee signing is paraded around as if Ashley was the great benefactor all along, what about the other positions we need cover in? Is he going to splash cash about for those, and if so, why didn’t he do so before until the desperate Almiron saga?

Comment #10Has Joe Linton had his medical already in Germany or will he have it here today if he arrives via Dusseldorf flight ?
The paparazzi among you should get down to the Nuffield or the Spire hospitals say around 11am onwards and see if he turns up there. Thanks for your efforts. I’ll be having coffee.

Comment #14Are we going to spend 48 million on one when we wont spend 20 on a single player?
Although Almrion is touted as a 21 mill pound deal is is it. It was 16mill plus add ons.

If he had his medical on Saturday he’s spent the weekend in the Bigg Market with Andy Carrol which doesn’t bode well for his fitness with all the ale and kebabs.
You’d have thought someone might have spotted them on the razzle.
Maybe they were good lads and just had a quite Pizza in Pont at Ashley’s expense.

Comment #23This sounds like a win win, Rolando isn’t good enough and Lazar is terrible it would be amazing to get him off the wage bill. Hes more interested in the clothes hes wearing and looking good than playing football.

Comment #24Does anyone even know if they go to the local hospitals for medicals? I always thought medicals were carried out at the medical facility by the club doctor Paul Catterson. Maybe I’m wrong, does anyone know?
