RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi is reporting that Newcastle have held discussions with AS Monaco for French right-back Djibril Sidibe.
Here is the tweet from the French journalist:
#West Ham et #Newcastle ont démarré des discussions avec l’AS Monaco pour #Sidibe ! D’autres clubs anglais ont sollicité l’AS Monaco pour l’international français ! Monaco lui a donné un bon de sortie.

This tweet roughly translates to:
West Ham and Newcastle have started discussions with AS Monaco for Sidibe! Other English clubs have asked AS Monaco about the French international! Monaco will give him a good exit.
Sidibe has been at Monaco since he moved from Lille in the summer of 2016 for around €13m. He was a big target for some top clubs after Monaco’s very successful season in 2016-17 in which they won Ligue 1 and made the Champions League semifinals.
That Monaco side was, of course, dismantled that summer and Sidibe was one of the lone holdovers to remain with Monaco. Last year he was linked with a €25m move to Atletico Madrid that never materialized.
Djibril Sidibe– would be an excellent signing at right-back
The 26-year-old right-back is now available for around €15m with both West Ham and Crystal Palace being heavily linked. Crystal Palace are looking to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka who made a £50m move to Manchester United late last month.
Djibril Sidibe is an attacking full-back who mainly plays on the right but can also cover on the left. He is an 18-time capped French international.
The player does have a bit of a history with injuries having missed 28 games over the past three years since joining Monaco. During that time he has made 114 appearances at the Stade Louis 11 with 6 goals and 21 assists.
Sidibe, like the whole Monaco team, suffered through a disappointing 2018-19 campaign and is now available for a cut-rate fee. His contract still runs until 2022.
We think this would be an excellent signing for Newcastle if they could pull it off.
