Steve Bruce Speaks About New Signing Joelinton And Some Pictures Of His Big Day

Here are a few pictures that have been tweeted out of our new record signing Joelinton who has signed on a massive six-year deal. So those reports about him wanting just a three-year deal were way off the mark as he signs for double that.

The official website has produced some comments that Steve Bruce has made about our new Brazilian number 9. We like the sound of that.

“The kid’s got an exciting time ahead of him. He’s a smashing young player and we’re obviously delighted to get him. It’s been going on for a little bit now, so to get him is great for everybody.

“He’s got everything that a modern-day player wants. He’s big, strong and athletic, and of course he’s got age on his side too which is vitally important.

“He’s learned the history and wanted it (the number nine shirt), and that’s always a big shirt to fill. But in his eyes, it was ‘bring it on – it’s what I’m here for’. He’s risen to that challenge, and I’m sure he will be a big, big favourite of the supporters. He’s got an incredible work-rate about him, he’s got a really good humility about him, and all the attributes a top striker needs.”

It seems he really wanted the number 9 shirt so let’s hope he can handle the pressure.

Joelinton and Bruce– are they out celebrating?

This is a big first step for the club to get this squad ready for the upcoming season. There was also news today that Isaac Hayden may be staying at the club this summer after all. Does that qualify as “like a new signing”?

Overall today has been a very good day but the club must not rest on their laurels. This is a positive first step but they have taken so many steps backward since the end of the season that have a lot of catching up to do.

We hope the reports of two more to come in this week are true though there has been no concrete links of who the next ones will be. We do like the players we have been linked with recently. Today we saw three more players in Vasca da Gama’s Marrony, Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe, and Augsburg’s Philipp Max.

The club have a lot of work to do and just two and a half weeks to do it. So they must go to work and bring in at least 4-5 more signings. It’s going to be a tough ask for Lee Charnley but he must get it done.

    Big shoes to fill Bruce.
This is probably the best squad he’s ever had under his management.
And still more to come through the door?
Just hope the work pulls off to tempt any new owners to still buy with the the current situation.

    This is what it means.

Mike Ashley is not asset stripping the club Ellis Short style. If he was he would not have spent any money. Certainly not 30-40 million.

He may still be taking out money gradually in the hope that this generates more for him.

Where are we now. Well, he still has the sign another 2/3 players and spend 60 million to get me in my seat for the Arsenal game.

Otherwise it is going to be more of the same and the ongoing living death.

Is he paying off his loan. If yes that may be good if it means he will sell for less. Or if it’s part of an arrangement with a buyer. Who knows ?

Really pleased we have finally spent the dosh and signed a promising young player in Joelington. Now we can’t stop there. Shift the deadwood of Colback, Lazaar, Murphy, Aarons, Saivet and Elliot and bring in Philip Max, Saint-Maximin, Fraser and Austin. That will excite me.

Is Longstaff’s money being used for this deal? If it is thats another nail in the coffin of NUFC, selling one of our own to pay for an untried comodity in the PL, yes Longstaff had only played a dozen times but its a dozen more than Joelinton. Good luck to the lad but there is a huge weight of expectancy on his shoulders particularly if Longstaff is sold.
Something does not add up with the latest goings on at the club, cannot work it out, unless new buyers have given instruction to make this and other suggested players?????

Santon- I tell you what as much as I like Longstaff, £50m for a youngster that has only played 9 EPL games is too much too turn down if I am honest. Now I will only be okay with that if that money is instantly reinvested in the squad with another player or two.

The most subdued response ever for a record NUFC signing.

I can’t wait to see the big lad, Almiron and hopefully another speed merchant lining together upfront.

It’s got te makings of Demba Ba, Cisse and HBA in their prime.

    Bring it on.

Perez and Jos money used for deal, it’s 35 million plus add-ons number of games etc – so we’ve spent 2.5 million – probably nothing if you take off rondon loan fee and wages

Hope the lad does well – we really need 20 goals from him this season

When I first heard about our interest in Joelinton I said to my mate”if he comes here I’ll eat my hat.”

Any ideas about the best thing to put on it. Salt, vinegar, tomato ketchup etc?

I cannot for the life of me seeing Ashley spending this amount on any player never mind someone who is untried at this level and spend more again on additional players!

Somebody else must be funding the purchase, is this why it’s stage payments, that someone else is picking up the tab?

We need 6 total without losing a key player. Hayden staying allegedly. In my opinion…

    Rondon replaced by joelinton
    Perez needs replacing (winger)
    Joselu needs replacing (striker)
    Diame needs replacing (DM)
needed a better right back still do (RB/RWB)
Needed an attacking left back (LWB)

arguably need an attacking midfielder after that plus replace darkow with better but thats nice to have.

The major question now is how much of that will they do.

    We’ve a Brazilian number 9
We just bought him from Hoffenheim
He can promise us lots of goals
He’ll be an asset this league doesn’t know

When he starts scoring we will scream
He could be the best we’ve ever seen
He’ll be a star in the Black & White
    A fans favourite overnight

And his name will resound out loud
When you witness the Geordie crowd
He’ll be banging them in for fun
    Everybody sing Joe linto

Screamers flying from his left foot
Oh man watching that Brazilian run
He takes them on for fun
Cause he’s Joelinton oh oh oh yeah

2 x loan players need replacing
    Rondon and Kenedy
    Sold players need replacing
Perez and Joselu with Gayle a potential 3rd.
Not only has Cashley left it late in buying, he’s also left it late to shift out deadwood like coldback, lazaar, Eliott.
Selling Longstaff makes perfect sense to Cashley, he technically cost nowt and could make a tidy £50m profit.
To us though it makes 0 sense, money isn’t everything and he could well become the best Geordie baller since Shearer.

A very good and surprising signing. Somehing is going on its the only logical explanation. There is no way Ashley would spend this kind of money and with breaking the record (kind of) in January then smashing it 7 month later when its stood since 2005 hmmmm nah man something is defo going on there has to be.

of course we will be fooled. NUFC is like a beautiful woman, you say you want nothing of her until she shows you her knickers and all of a sudden all bets are off.

We are men, we are dogs, we are stupid, but we love it.

Another +20 million signing and Arsenal will be sold out.

Makes you wonder why Rafa left to pursue his “champions league winning project” in China.

Yes we’ve sold Perez which funds this, but name a club around us that doesn’t do that.

Leicester sold Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez and soon to be Maguire. And they have arguably the most loved family ownership in the league.

Yes things could be much better and done a lot better here, but things could be and have been a lot worse over the last 40 years so have perspective people.
