Allan Saint-Maximum Left Out Of Pre-Season Friendly As Newcastle Close In

OGC Nice have announced their squad for their pre-season friendly tonight at Portuguese club Boavista. Allan Saint-Maximin has been left out as anticipated. This is a good sign that things are progressing towards a breakthrough in the deal.

Sky Sports is also reporting that Steve Bruce has confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Allan Saint-Maximum. They also state that Newcastle have had two bids rejected according to French sources. We are not sure if this second reported bid is after the €16m reported by RMC from earlier today.

Lee Ryder also confirms that talks are currently ongoing between Newcastle and Nice for the French winger.

    Bus. Repost

Munster @ 40 and so many other posts that I lost count.

You keep going on about how fair and balanced your criticism of Rafa was but the problem that I would take with your comments was that you couldn’t leave it at just that. You had to include some additional snide little remark or dig that took your constructive criticism and turned it into something biased and personal. Can make you come across like a prick with an agenda.

Sometimes it’s not what you say but how you say it.

    Sometimes it’s both 🙂

I wonder whether it’ll come as a shock to Brucie when be finds out that Sean Longstaff’s going to ManU. One of Ashley’s little surprises, this early?

Or we could fall back onto the old British favourite, the Weather. Or again perhaps not as that might lead to a global warming debate. Which apparently is a load of tosh according to the American expert, omg that leads to politics but that’s OK I’ve sanctioned that.

    9 @ 60 last article

The rumour is that the base price is 30M going up to 40M. Since 30M is what we got for Perez, I think if Joe can replace what Perez or Rondon could do for us then maybe that’s OK for his first season with us as a 22 year old.

Asking him to do 20+ goals would be too much to realistically expect.

Maybe the accepted figure on this blog (40m) needs questioning, as I have no doubt it includes several bonuses for team achievement which are very far from certain to occur, so our new CF ought not to be judged against the full weight of £40m, just saying.

Considering Newcastle must be losing hoards of young fans due to the ongoing mess, I reckon this Saint Maximin lad is just the job to pique the interest of a fair few who otherwise would be looking elsewhere for heroes.

He might not live up to Ginola or Ben Arfa but he certainly looks like someone you actually want to watch.

Assuming we get Saint Max, I think we need at least 2 more. Midfield and an a LB/RB. If we go 5 at the back I’m fine with Ritchie on the left which means either Yedlin or Manquillo on the right. Either are fine for this season as backup and since Manquillo can play both sides I think that pushes Yedlin out of the side. Midfield though I think is more important to improve. Longstaff is a great prospect but he’s young and inexperienced for a whole season as starter. We will want more rotation. Ki is fine again as a backup but I don’t rate Shelvey that much. I think he has some great qualities but for a player like him to fit he needs to sit back and pass the ball from deep (which to his credit he does really well). Unfortunately, he doesn’t work as a DM and can’t take a man on so you have a player occupying the defensive half of the midfield without putting in the defensive shift. That leaves us with one less player in the attack. Would rather sell him to a team that can afford his defensive liabilities and instead get either a pure DM or a CAM that can push Hayden and Longstaff for their starting spot or rotate for rest or better matchups against opponents.

20+ goals for any player is a lot nowadays for those outside the top 6. If Joelinton gets 12-15, then in my opinion then that’s a good personal return on his first season.
Whether that there will be enough goals in the whole team is a different matter.

I couldn’t give a fcuk who we sign now cos it’s a joke.Benitez for Bruce, it’s fcuking disgusting!Just because we may spend a few quid on positions that should of been strengthened years ago everything’s alright,I don’t think so!Its guaranteed there will be 40 thousand plus there against Arsenal being served up the same relegation fodder that we are are now used too.Empty the ground is the the only way to shift the parasite, either that or enjoy the upcoming relegation battles for the foreseeable.@Ashley out.

1 or 2 more over the line, now wer hav we heard that bullsh1t b4, and itl b 1 more, so much for the 100 million kitty

They are liars and always will b

Cant believe how many r already second thinking about boycotts

No communication with fans and fatso again sticks up 2 fingers at the fans and cos he signs 1 player, unproven at that and i wish the lad all the best for his own sake and all is forgotten

    Now, is time for change

R we gonna acceot this crap, 1 or 2 more players then come jan when we’re struggling we start getn unsettled again and he splashes again on a new winger for 30m that could hav been signed in june and once again the fans accept

Get a grip people, u are supporting the plight of the club we all support, he has the fans bickering and divided and is ripping the soul out of our club piece by piece and people on here are getting behind that because he signs 1 player

When is it gonna b too late? When thers nothing left for him to take and nothing left for us to support

Don’t think there was any baying Mob ? Also me hounded for having many multiple Aliases.?.you been dreaming .

Anyway ..behave herself, relax, the Sun’s out.

Ps it might look like Ashley has lashed out 40 million on a player but until he raises the wage structure to pay for the likes of Mata then we will never achieve top six and mix it with them on a level playing field , and be expected to beat them without the odd bit of luck going our way ..refs etc. It will happen occasionally but you would not put good money on it.

‘Sides 30 m for Perez..11mil left over from dealings last window £41 million in ..Ashleys spent nothing .

He can start spending the 50 plus million now eh ?

saint maximin seems a bit like adama traore with a bit better end product…really needs to work on not being wasteful. seems to put in a lot of useless crosses from what ive seen.

defenses facing joelinton almiron and saint maximin coming at them full speed would be nervous

A major concern for the season with the squad at hand is who among them can you rely on in dead ball situations.

Rondon showed last season season what we had been missing and relying for too long on Shelvey and Ritchie. Neither of these two have progressed this skill and I’d give Ritchie the edge over Shelvey.

Maybe Almiron has it in him. I recall a couple free kick highlights from him in MLS but he didn’t get a crack last season.

Recall Atsu having a nice moment or two but not consistent enough to be nailed on for the starting 11.

Don’t think we have had a top dead ball man since Cabaye left.

    Was bothering me that.

Say £30m left after (hopefully) getting in Saint Maximin. Fullbacks? One fullback and back-up forward? Need to really shift some dead wood and boost the pot methinks.

Surely we can’t be keeping Colback!

Yeah, I don’t think Man Utd or Chelsea had anyone get 20 goals.
Hazard may have but don’t think he did in the league.
Just one of them sayings in football I guess but they are not common hence the bigger price tags with strikers.

Oooof Munster! I don’t recall ever saying anything to you about Martin O’Neill perhaps in jest but I very much doubt I ascribed that desire to you. When you’re berating someone for telling lies, don’t tell any.

And I think it’s somewhat presumptuous to say all but ten bloggers are stupid. Or that you are a much better fan than anyone. Because the problem with that is we have to take your word for it. And the Martin O’Neill lie is a bad start.

on ashley, we all dislike him as an owner…but protesting that no one will buy the club for 325-350 million is a little dumb.

if you want someone to buy the club at a cut-rate, youre just trading one cheap bastard for another.

no one’s come forward and saying Ashley’s been negotiating in bad faith. Either stavley/kenyon/et al parties are looking at the books and not liking what they see, or, they dont actually have the money to buy the club
