Newcastle Right-Back Target Only Thinking Of Silverware

The Scotsman has published an interview with former Newcastle right-back and current Rangers captain James Tavernier.

James has been recently linked with a move back to Newcastle. Though, the player may be slightly outside of Newcastle’s current transfer policy of only buying player 26 years old or younger. James will turn 28 in October.

He has developed into a top player and leader in Scotland. James had an outstanding year last year producing 17 goals and 20 assists at Ibrox last season. His offensive production does come with some defensive liabilities, however.

James Tavernier– Please bring me back!

This is what James has said in the Scotsman about the upcoming season, his hopes for a trophy, and the recent link to Newcastle:

“The lack of silverware has been disappointing. The reason I came to Rangers was to win trophies.

“The squad has improved from last season, I’m more than excited to play in this campaign and hopefully we can bring silverware home this season.

“Being captain, winning a trophy would be the next step. I really wanted that as a player even more now as a captain. It’s been a long time coming – hopefully we can now do that.

“I have always believed in my quality, even when I was younger. With the clubs I was at, Newcastle and Wigan, it didn’t work out for me.

“Rangers gave me a chance. The club have shown faith in me. I have been trying to repay that favour ever since which means working harder, getting better and better.

“It’s a compliment to be linked to other clubs. I see it. But all my emphasis is on Rangers. Things can happen in football, of course, but I’m looking forward to this season.

“It’s all speculation. If it stays like that then I don’t get upset about it. I’m fully focused on the job here.

These comments are about what you’d expect from a player with links elsewhere. He seems committed enough to Rangers but you would have to think that at this stage in his career he might be ready to test himself at the top level.

James would be an excellent acqusition for Newcastle at the right price of around maybe £10m. He could do a job at right wing-back and would be an upgrade to DeAndre Yedlin who is decent going forward but also has defensive deficiencies.

What we really like about James though is his leadership and having as many leaders on the team as possible is going to be vital for Newcastle this season.

Plain as day the PR engine is going full throttle now

Seriously Toon22 is bang on the money, you can look at this blog and see the Pro-Ashley propaganda absolutely choking it. A nice big bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates and all is well until the next solid beating like all those we’ve had in the last 12 years. Every trick in the book is thrown at us, the fans aren’t actually unhappy “in the real world” they say, but they still feel the need to come here and convince us of that.

Looking at the situation realistically and deciding you aren’t a simpleton mug and you’ve had enough, no more lies, is equated to not caring about the club and not being a supporter at all, just being a “misery” and a “negger”.

Look at the “posters” seeping out of every crack – where have they been while everything was tolerable – they weren’t here because get weren’t needed at the time. Why are they here now? To protect Sports Direct Man. To make us feel unworthy because we question what he has done to the club – shave out it’s insides and present us with a lifeless husk dressed up as a living body.

Useless, selective and meaningless stats. Outright plain lies rewriting history about previous issues, like Benitez leaving us to follow the money when the real story is well documented, Benitez couldn’t trust Ashley because he lied to him continually do he gave up knowing it was going nowhere. The bogus story about Carroll engineering a move out of the club. The constant harping on about past things not being as we understood them clearly at the time. The haranguing, belittling and bullying of anyone suggesting we take measures to stop giving Ashley his money. Ridiculing anyone who suggests positive (not negative actually) action like boycotts as traitors or mackems or not going to games anyway so “who are you…” etc.

You’re not wrong to be cynical of Ashley or his PR, it’s obvious he needs social media on his side because that’s where all the online shirt buyers are. I reckon it will get worse before it gets better.

I forgot the mention of blog gangs, collectives or packs when there isn’t one. Thats designed to create suspicion. I’m not part of any group except the group of long suffering Mags sick to death of the greedy man’s cynical desecration of NUFC.

    Munster,
I can’t wait for you to pounce on Wearside Jack’s comments that Rafa was a very poor man manager and that our best DM and most passionate local lad is now glad to see the back of him.

Considering Munster berated Rafa for letting the twice relegated Mitrovich go let’s see how the best passer of the ball and serial hot head Jonjo Shelvey steps up to the plate under the guidance of Bruce.

Bill’s son is back reckons the last two seasons of austerity has been part of a grand plan to set us up for long term success. Nothing at all to do with banking on a top class manager keeping us up with minimal investment but realising that a second rate puppet is going to need more help and that nearly all your ”customers” have finally had enough.

I will do the stats thing again, just because it doesn’t really show the true picture.

Bruce: 2nd worst win % in PL with less than 30%.

Bruce teams – Wigan, Birmiingham, Hull, Sunderland.

Bruce points per game = 1.12

    in a 38 game season = 43 points.

    But, I digress.

Rafa Points per game in Pl last 2 seasons = 1.17

So, is Rafa sort of crap with 1.17 points per game, only surpassing Bruce with his 1.12 with really crap teams?

But Pards beats them both when he has an underfunded team like NUFC with his PPG of 1.34.

I am confused now. is Rafa crap and Pards better?

All of these stats on the internet seem like they can be manipulated to mean anything?

Ast time mike went on a spending spree was when we risked being relegated. Bought a handful of frenchman, only to sell them when money was obviously more important than Europe.

Mikes worried about relegation. Only difference this time, to buy 5 players now means spending a lot more than last time.

I wonder when A$$ Lie will think that he’s given us enough crumbs ( e.g. Joelinton signing) to counter balance the piles of misery and woe that he has heaped on us ?

A$$ Lie is a sociopath and we need to make sure that we get him out of Newcastle. Unfortunately that means boycotting everything Newcastle until the leech goes.

    Tsunki,

I have to say your post @ 2 is one of the most eloquent but ridiculously left field propaganda I have ever read on here.

You are saying that everyone who disagrees with your view of NUFC, and of course including me, is part of some great Ashley inspired PR machine who take orders and come on here to convert the masses to Asleyism.

If you really believe that you should be writing fairy stories – I honestly think from your command of English you’d be rather good at it. Your talented fantasies are wasted posting on here.

Here are some plum extracts from your post….

Plain as day the PR engine is going full throttle now

    – you can look at this blog and see the Pro-Ashley propaganda absolutely choking it

    – Every trick in the book is thrown at us,

    – Why are they here now? To protect Sports Direct Man. To make us feel unworthy

    – present us with a lifeless husk dressed up as a living body

    – The haranguing, belittling and bullying of anyone suggesting we take measures to stop giving Ashley his money

Someone said it better than I could:
Mike Ashley is a shop owner – he buys merchandise to sell at a price. Newcastle United is his footballing shop, he will ONLY invest to make a profit. And what’s more, NUFC act as free advertising for his other sh*tty shop.
Disgraceful man, should never be allowed to own a football club.

Why are they useless stats? I have seen it repeated many times that Rafa’s Points per Game is 1.71 in the Premier league. But that includes Liverpool. With Nufc it was 1.17 PPG.

Why is that a useless stat.

When he had money he performed a lot better. Bruce never had money and was roughly on par with Rafa at NUFC.

Pardew was actually much better @1.34 against 1.17 on a similar budget.

Not seeing how these are “useless”.

But, tell me a pathetic joke. That might help.

Rafas 2 last seasons were virtually identical in terms of shots, clearances, goal conceded etc etc.

We all know where we stood, defend, defend, counter. Wasnt exactly pretty but kept us up.

We have a decent defence IF we make additional signings, we could do ok under Bruce. I hate the idea of bruce being here, rediculious decision but who knows. Im not supporting him, far from it but rafas constraints were documented by players and plain to see by fans

I think with 13,000 people not renewing their seasons tickets, something had to give. The signing of Joelinton is great, but I’m not as excited as I would like to be. Purelt because Mike Ashley still owns the club

I did some calculations today based on all of the incoming and outgoing transfers since Ashley has owned the club. Including the £40 million signing of Joelinton, there has been a total net spend of around £25 million. That is just over £2 million net spend each year over the 12 years he has owned the club.

Think of all the matchday revenue that 52,000 fans will have accumulated over a season multiplied by 12 years.

Think about the huge amounts of money Ashley receives from the Premier league/TV money.

Think about all of the merchandise and shirt sales that has been sold in 12 years.

Think about the sponsorship money from Virgin, Wonga, FUN 88 and others.

And we still have a ‘debt’ of around £100 million?

Newcastle United is Mike Ashleys cash cow.

Where has all the money gone?!?!?!?!?!

I reckon 95% of the posts since Joelinton signed for a record £40M haven’t even mentioned his name.

    And yet….

One of the things the neggers have rammed down our throats time and again is that the FCB would NEVER spend even £20M on a player never mind £40M.

Even where Joelinton has been mentioned the majority of neggers have said he’s no good, part of the FCB PR campaign or bought with some mysterious outside cash.

It’s exactly the type of response you expect from people who have had the rug pulled out from underneath their feet.

Ah, but there lies a problem – James wants to win trophies, silverware and there’s not a cat in hell’s chance of that as long a Ashlie’s in charge.
