One player Newcastle cannot afford to lose this summer is goalkeeper Martin Dubravka who has been a constant presence on the pitch for the club since joining in January 2018.
There is precious little quality behind Martin at the moment and finding an adequate replacement this late in the game could prove a very tough task.
German outlet Kicker are reporting that PSG are interested in signing our Slovakian keeper.
Dubravka lässt Frankfurts Chancen bei Trapp steigen – Slowake im PSG-Fokus #BL https://t.co/pGEOUc3YjO
— kicker | Bundesliga (@kicker_bl_li) July 24, 2019
This tweet roughly translates to:
Dubravka boosts Frankfurt’s chance at Trapp. Slovak in PSG sights.
Kevin Trapp spent last season on loan at Frankfurt but has returned to PSG this summer. The report in Kicker is saying that PSG will not sell Trapp unless they get a replacement in.
That replacement reportedly could be Martin Dubravka which would be a massive loss for Newcastle.
Martin Dubravka– must be kept at Newcastle at all costs
PSG currently have two top-quality goalkeepers in Trapp and Alphonse Areola. They will want to keep it that way as last season they allowed Kevin Trapp to go on loan due to having Gianluigi Buffon at the club.
Buffon has returned to Juventus this summer leaving PSG without a second option if Kevin Trapp were to join Frankfurt permanently which is what the German club is hoping for.
While this is a new link for Martin, it comes during a summer of speculation for our shot-stopper. He was linked earlier this summer with a move to Juventus and most recently with three Premier League clubs, in addition to Porto and Monaco.
Newcastle, incidentally, were linked with Kevin Trapp as competition for Dubravka earlier in May.
Newcastle must fend off all offers for Dubravka this summer. He is one of the players whose loss could cause big problems for the club’s survival chances.
He has also grown into a leadership role at the club and his experience and quality will be vital in keeping us out of relegation trouble this coming season.

Comment #2Tony, there’s a difference between being miserable and recognising the situation for what it is – the same old, tried and tested nonsense from Ashley and his minions.
I don’t think you quite understand what Rafa meant to the city, not just the club. He tried to improve the lot of us all, supporting the food bank, charities, championing our cause to improve the club, not just the team, demanding improvements to the infrastructure and instilling a long-term plan.
In short, he was our hope of a better club, one we could be proud of once more.
Bruce is a return to the shoddy short-termism we had under Pardew and McClaren and all the others. A ‘First Team Coach’, not a Manager. Essentially someone whose responsibilities start and finish at the touchline or the training pitch.
It doesn’t matter if he’s a ‘yes man’ or one of Ashley’s minions. Even if he wants to emulate Rafa and do great things for this club, his responsibility for that sort of progress is already reduced. We don’t reject the man, we reject what he represents, so your oft-repeated stats are meaningnless.
If Rafa was hope, Bruce is stagnation. Not dissing the man, I’m dissing the way Ashley has once more hamstrung our once-great club.

Do you think it is the sign of ambitious thinking and forward planning replacing a serial trophy winner and former manager of Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Liverpool with, how can we put it…..Steve Bruce?
That’s a real difficult searching question that one, a simple yes or no will do.
Oh btw West Ham and Everton both spent more on a single player, Leicester are about to.

Comment #7Tony – you seem to be on this blog a lot and have some pretty strong opinions – fair enough to be passionate but what is your view on upcoming season
Personally am annoyed Rafa wasn’t backed and he left frustrated by our short sighted owner
I think symbolically a boycott is a good idea for the Arsenal game – am not saying it will enact any real change but it’s good to show some fan power and hopefully remind the media of the neglect NUFC has had over past decade
I am not a big admirer of Bruce but admit he has come over pretty well and I hope that his shortcomings as a manager can be overridden by his desire to manage his childhood team (hoping)
I am pleased with the Joelinton signing but would of been just as happy if we’d kept Rondon and feel we need to add 4-5 more good signings to give us a chance of staying up (sadly that’s the new ambition for us toon fans under this regime)
Do you share these views? Just struggling to get a feel for where you stand so as to properly engage with you

Comment #22Thank you So So much, Mr. Ashley, I don’t get why so many people are up in arms about you spending 40 odd Million on one player, I know right, you would expect some gratitude.
Oh right, you totally forgot about running our club like a dipshit, letting a world-class manager leave, lying to the fans, using the club as a piggy ( Ashley ) bank, employing idiots to manage the running of NUFC, spreading false PR, being a low life scum bag piece of shite.
Right, Thank you, Mike, for everything you do ( Please miss the first paragraph and jump to second )

Comment #27Posada: Me mam lives 2 miles from Dinton and it is on the way to the airport. This avatar is The Crown Fountain which is just off South Michigan Ave. I took the picture myself 2 weeks ago. Chicago is known for its architecture but this is probably the best addition in the last 30 years. That is saying something as the best architects of the past 70 years have all worked here. Frank Lloyd Wright, Meis Van Der Rohe. Helmut Jahn. But, in my opinion , the greatest Dinnington architects are Skidmore, Owens and Merrill who designed the Sears Tower and the Hancock Building.
You can get directions from Oldarse. He says it is next to the Swan Pub.

Comment #31The penny never actually dropped with Ashley or Charnley did it when it came to the Steve McClaren appointment? They threw money at it big time with signings here and there gini, cabella, thauvin etc and Mclaren got them relegated. Rafa couldn’t save them and by the grace of god he got them back up, Ashley came out and said it himself that the club has going to be the next Leeds UTD had they not got back up at the 1st attempt. Here we are 3 years on with another wally with a brolly looking relegation, a day of reckoning is coming very soon.

Problem with that theory is Joelinton was being tracked and linked 4 months or so ago whilst Rafa was here. No seeming link to boycott as yet but see what else transpires

Comment #35All the signing of Joelinton has done is proved that we have returned to the disastrous policy of having a second rate manager prepared to have players for profit foisted on him. Said policy seen us flirt with relegation time and time again before it inevitably happened. If it doesn’t happen this season it will be the season after.

Comment #36magcar, a tenuous comparison at best from you.
“Problem with that theory is Joelinton was being tracked and linked 4 months or so ago”.
Tell me, how long ago did the ‘If Rafa Goes We Go” threats arise… more than 4 months ago? I am sure it’s a wild coincidence that the club has just blown the transfer record for a player out of the water—leaving a mushroom cloud behind.
It’s not a bad start for fan pressure I’d say.
