Steve Bruce Speaks Of Number Of Incomings As Well As Mike Ashley’s Visit

Steve Bruce has given a press conference with new signing Joelinton. Some of the comments are located on the club’s official Twitter page.

The Chronicle also have produced some of Steve’s and Joelinton’s comments as they made them.

One comment that quite concerned us is that Steve Bruce said that they were working on making sure there will be one or two more in.

This is the quote from Steve Bruce when talking about incomings:

“We are doing our utmost to make sure there will be one or two more walking through the door to give us a hand.”

From our reckoning, we need at the minimum three to four more signings this summer as the club has lost three first-team players in Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez, and Mohamed Diame. It has also lost Joselu and Kenedy who served as cover for the majority of last season.

So far they have just brought in Joelinton but are getting close to signing Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.

They are also very short of quality at both full-back positions which is in desperate need of strengthening.

This is concerning because the squad was already paper-thin last season. It looks like fringe players who were on loan last season may end up being relied upon this season more than we had hoped.

Bruce with new signing Joelinton– we need at least 4 more of these press conferences

Players like Henri Saivet, Jack Colback, Achraf Lazaar, Dwight Gayle, Jacob Murphy, and Rolando Aarons all went on loan last season but are back at Newcastle or soon will be in the case of Saivet.

Colback, Lazaar, and Aarons have so far featured heavily in pre-season. This does add a dilemma of squad size so maybe Bruce is referencing one or two more in on top of what is currently here. And that there are likely to be outgoings of some of the fringe players.

That is probably reading too much into it but we cannot only bring in one or two more players this summer.

It would be fine if players like Achraf Lazaar, Dwight Gayle, and Jack Colback are sold this summer and then replaced. However, we don’t want to end up losing any first-team players as the squad is already short on quality.

The club will find it very hard to offload some of these players but that should not limit the number of new faces brought in. They can always loan Lazaar and Aarons to Sheffield Wednesday after all.

We are a little concerned that all of a sudden the word from the club is one or two more on the same day that Mike Ashley has made his visit.

This is what Steve Bruce has said concerning the visit of the owner today:

“Mike came in to wish myself and the staff the best of luck. He met the new centre-forward.

“He took an interest in training and wished us all luck. I think it is always key to have a positive relationship.

“You need to get on with the people you work with. I am not interested in what went on before.

“So far he has been straight. I have asked a couple of questions and got straight answers.”

We hope one of those straight answers was not only one or two more in this summer.

If we can only get 2 more in then, after Saint Maximin, we should go for Sidibe if he is available from Monaco at the suggested £20M mark. He would be first choice right back (or wing back). We can have Dummett on the left. Ritchie did well for himself last season as LWB but he was overrun physically at times and it isn’t natural for him to defend that position. I’d prefer Dummett there choosing between the two.

Assuming we get Saint Max, I think we need at least 2 more. Midfield and an a LB/RB. If we go 5 at the back I’m fine with Ritchie on the left which means either Yedlin or Manquillo on the right. Either are fine for this season as backup and since Manquillo can play both sides I think that pushes Yedlin out of the side. Midfield though I think is more important to improve. Longstaff is a great prospect but he’s young and inexperienced for a whole season as starter. We will want more rotation. Ki is fine again as a backup but I don’t rate Shelvey that much. I think he has some great qualities but for a player like him to fit he needs to sit back and pass the ball from deep (which to his credit he does really well). Unfortunately, he doesn’t work as a DM and can’t take a man on so you have a player occupying the defensive half of the midfield without putting in the defensive shift. That leaves us with one less player in the attack. Would rather sell him to a team that can afford his defensive liabilities and instead get either a pure DM or a CAM that can push Hayden and Longstaff for their starting spot or rotate for rest or better matchups against opponents.

Few on here still thinking that Joelinton is not our new centre forward, Shows I suppose a few need to brush up a little on their football.

If we can only get 2 more in then, after Saint Maximin, we should go for new owner and new manager.

    RIP Rutger Hauer

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”

Best advice, forget Rafa he’s gone, he did a great job while he was here under the circumstances but we don’t know exactly what his plans or reasons were for leaving. Money talks and he’ll be getting it in China.
We’ve got Bruce now like it or loath it.
Either get behind the team or back off, constant moaning changes Jack sh.t.
With a couple more quality signings we should have a good chance of staying up.
Enjoy the Season ahead a few good results will lift spirits.

I think either one would be upgrades to what we have. Both have their risks though as you need max to adjust to English football and whether Bowen can step up from championship.
For the record I think both can.

The main difference imo is with max you have the rapid pace and dribbling but with Bowen you have someone not as quick but has end product and gets involved with the play more passing it about.

    United confident of double signing

Manchester United are confident of bolstering their squad by bringing in Harry Maguire from Leicester City and Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United, the Evening Standard claims.

Munster @ 40 and so many other posts that I lost count.

You keep going on about how fair and balanced your criticism of Rafa was but the problem that I would take with your comments was that you couldn’t leave it at just that. You had to include some additional snide little remark or dig that took your constructive criticism and turned it into something biased and personal. Can make you come across like a prick with an agenda.

Sometimes it’s not what you say but how you say it.

You’ve only partially quoted Rutger Hauer surely? Did he not wax lyrical about those heady, halcyon days of Keegan’s first spell as manager.

Maybe the accepted figure on this blog (40m) needs questioning, as I have no doubt it includes several bonuses for team achievement which are very far from certain to occur, so our new CF ought not to be judged against the full weight of £40m, just saying.

    Bills son
Yes Ashley is a billionaire so you could say he’s a successful business man in retail! But he ain’t a successful football club owner! He’s an utter failure because football club’s success isn’t measured by the balance sheet, it’s measured in trophies. Admittedly he isn’t the first one but none of his predecessors had access to the money that he has! FAILURE
