Report – Newcastle Offered Striker They Made Inquiry On A Few Weeks Ago

Sky Sports is reporting that Southampton striker Charlie Austin is on a list of potential targets head coach Steve Bruce is mulling over.

Lyall Thomas also states in the report than Newcastle made an inquiry into Austin’s availability a few weeks ago. Football Insider 247 did a report over a week ago saying that Newcastle were interested in signing Austin.

This is what Wayne Veysey said about Newcastle’s interest in Austin:

Newcastle United are plotting a bid to sign newly available Southampton striker Charlie Austin, Football Insider understands.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider the club have turned their attention to Austin after he was transfer listed by Southampton.

There does seem to be something in the link and over a week ago Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl left Austin out of their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Charlie Austin– frozen out at Saints

The fee for Charlie Austin is reportedly £8m which to us seems a bit high for a 30-year-old with just one year left on his contract who is not wanted by his club.

We would rather see Andy Carroll brought back than spend money on Charlie Austin. However, if they could maybe get the fee close to £3-4m he could be worth it.

He is also on a rapid decline in form as he scored only 2 goals in 25 Premier League appearances last season. If Newcastle were to bring in Austin, he could possibly do a job late in the game. He is still a very good finisher though offers little else at this stage.

We still have our doubts that Mike Ashley would allow a 30 year to be brought in for a fee especially when there are so many available for nothing.

It will be interesting to see where this one goes but we are skeptical that this will come to fruition.

I’d take him, decent striker, would pass on some good knowledge to Elias Sorensen who can replace him in the 1st team squad over time.

    Makes sense.

Southampton have brought in better strikers. We shouldn’t be getting their crappy forwards. We should have been challenging them for Adams.

Last season Southampton were possibly even worse than us with regards to goals, largely because they had the worst strike force in the league. Austin, long and ings. We shouldn’t help our competitors taking strikers with worse records than joselu.

    Rob,
His only talent is finishing and he scored less than joselu while playing more games. He’s been finished a while. Southampton only played him because cthey had no options. I wouldn’t take him on a free. One things for sure he’s not improving year by year.

Just looked on the official website , still over 11,000 season tickets available. So taking in to account , the people who pay for individual matches . Ashley has lost 25% of the fans , that’s a hell of a lot of people he’s p@#@#d off

Looks like the next players through the door will be the following:

    Marrony – £11m
    Djibril Sidibe – £13m
    Allan Saint-Maximin – £19m

We will still need an attacking left back, a goalkeeper, defensive midfielder to replace Diame, a playmaker and another striker.

    Hope your right about Carr.
He is one of the best scouts in the business.
He brought in some cracking players so many I couldn’t possibly name them all.

Just got back from holiday…..to the news of Bruce!! What a joy that was. Glad I made the decision to not look at news while away.

Takeover is dead now, and so is my hope of enjoying Newcastle again this season.

I’m completely done until the new era (whenever that is!)- won’t even be watching on TV.

Time to wash the taste away with a pre sale celebratory pint or 2 with my Toon mate, who, by coincidence, is also having a couple of pre sale celebratory pints.

Strong point from Micheal Chopra on twitter

Mike ashleys own words in 2008.
.”Newcastle’s best asset has been, is and always will be the fans.”
His plan was to exploit you from the start. He bought the club for your loyalty.
Enough is enough. Make a stand.

That was my tweet which chopra has uses. Ow liked by over 2k and over 500 retweets.
See you can .make a difference and get your message out to the world.
If you dont believe me look @genjikai1 on twitter.
If more of you join in we will achieve ashleyout.
