Mike Ashley Tries To Atone For Newcastle Mistakes But It’s Too Little Too Late

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, Mike Ashley has seemingly atoned for all of his Newcastle mistakes. And while there have been many, we have to wonder why this is being done now. Well, our wondering is complete. It did not take too long to come to the conclusion that he is now willing to talk because he is in a heap of trouble.

We have to understand that this is a man in the abyss at the moment. This is a wounded animal with his back against the wall and he will do anything to escape the clutches of culpability. His empire is crumbling around him and we must take that into account no matter what he says.

While we accept his admonishments of how poorly he has run this football club, we are skeptical as to the true nature of his comments.

Why is he saying this now, on one of the darkest days of his career as a businessman? Where were these comments when Newcastle fans were in an unnavigable darkness as to the direction of this club? Nothing then when one of the best things to happen to this club in well over a decade walked away to China of all places.

So, it is now that he comments on Rafa. A full month after he released a statement of his departure. Not good enough. Not by a long shot. We’ve had a month to stew over this and now he comes out looking for sympathy. Like Rafa is the villain. Well, it’s too late for that. If what he says has any bearing on reality, then it should have been said long ago. It rings hollow now.

It is now that he makes these comments. Now when he does a mea culpa. Now when his skin is on the line. Nothing before. Nothing when Newcastle United fans were left on a razor’s edge between joy and despair. Now he comments when “no comment” has been his signature motto.

We have provided the link to the interview with Mike Ashley if anyone wants to read it. We do suggest that you do. These are the comments you would want from your owner. These are the comments that Mike Ashley should have made over a decade ago. The fact that he makes them today when his beloved Sports Direct is crumbling, speaks volumes.

He knows exactly what needs to be done to run this football club. He can play the mea culpa and the “I was naive” game all he wants. He has known all along what was needed, and he willfully failed to run this club as it deserved to be run. He failed us.

Again, a lot of what he says is absolutely correct. But why now? In conclusion, it has a lot to do with his current situation.

And Mike, if you truly believe what you say, it’s never too late to prove it. Invest in this club. I’ll call your bluff. Go on and prove that your words have meaning.

I’ll not hold my breath.

This is an interesting one….”‘The last bid, the one from UAE, he’s a prince and he’s got £38bn or £100bn, all these numbers — well, why would you even care what you’re paying then? What difference would £10m either way make?”
Anyone help me out with this one….is MA saying they were only 10m apart? or maybe MA bumped it up 10m after a price was agreed?

As a fan, I’m happy if we have a good group of players, that have the personal integrity to run around for the shirt, and a decent manager and coaching set up to prepare them.

Give us that Mike Ashley, or sell.

Sick to my back teeth of talking about the ownership of the club, we’ve had 12 years of it, and all I want is a good, hard running, competitive football team to support.

The statements by Ashley are nothing short of pathetic. Are we supposed to believe this load of bollocks? Telling BZG what they should be willing to pay? Saying 10M more should mean nothing to them? Meanwhile he’s the biggest penny pincher of all! What a joke. Not an honest word in there.

What did he say in that interview that was correct except that he shouldn’t own a football club.

Missed the bus so post here
2 Versions we need to see and I believe we as fans of NUFC we are entitled to hear or see the version of Raffa and the version of BZG so we can clarify in our own minds the truth of what went on regarding the take over of our Football Club.

Belgium has clearly been used by Ashley as a transfer point between Britain and the rest of Europe obviously in some way to avoid tax. It hasn’t worked out too well has it Mikey? And now he’s trying to find an accountancy firm that will do his audits. All the big ones are already saying no for a variety of reasons. This man and his companies are completely toxic.

Anyone who has that much money as in part of the Dubai royal family(however distant) will not be shafted by the fat one! They will lay their terms out and once agreed that will be that. The problem is the greedy market trader who sees an extra million every corner he turns, our fatty will exploit.Like any market trader he will make a product unviable because he gets greedy. He has not learned when to cut and run! (If your reading chubbs, that’s now)

Sick to death of this teat!! And now he comes out with “I think I could own this club forever”!!! Are you fcuking kidding me!! And Rafa left for money when he said countless times that all he wanted was a club with ambition. Then the twat goes on and says that “Rafa had the microphone”- so what were you gagged!? You’re the bloody owner yet you can’t speak!!?? No excuses! Oh and I slightly agree with what he said regarding BZG about why not paying the full wack and be done with it but it is obvious, you AshLie kept moving the goalposts asking for more!!

Greedy fat leech get out now!!

I would love to see Ashley’s retail empire crumble around him, and for him to be exposed as the chancer that he is. No credible strategy in place, a gambler, and one who places no value on integrity and trust.
In terms of NUFC, yes we are separate from SD, except of course for the vast advertising sums that SD pay the club (cough!), but there is a real risk that if he doesn’t sell he’ll start to take cash out of the club into MASH to make up for less cash coming from SD. Just at the time that funds are available in the club.
To date Ashley has only repaid short term relegation loans, and has been waiting for the cash earned post promotion to filter into the club. That’s now there and it’s important as he works on cash accounting basis. He will not spend on fees with TV money he doesn’t yet have.
But the risk is that he will now curtail our squad building if he wants some of our spare cash.
Remember those words ‘the club can have every pound it generates’.
We need to keep him to that promise!

What a joke about Bruce. Ashley talks as if he’s just captured the greatest manager ever. The man has been a loser throughout his career in the Prem. He is capable of guiding a Champo team and that’s what we could become under him and yet again under Ashley. He’s backed into a corner now and lying through his teeth. He wants more money to sell the club but then blames Rafa for taking the money and going to China! And that’s after he ignored him for 3 years. Not going to work Ashley.

His actual problem right now is he has stripped so much from us he is left with something he thought had value but in reality is more of that wallpaper he mentioned

If he strips any more out he will be left with a liability

If we are relegated he has lost eh ability to keep us as he wont have the cash

He wanted to keep the lie of us actually being a prem club hence the traitor as manager and not actually spending a thing again this year but pretending we actually have a chance this year

In reality he keeps us he looses money
He sells us and he cant keep his tat shops afloat

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

    Rock and a hard place

Two small roundabout at Shirebrook might be enough to end him

The SD situation is very confusing, on one hand they are in deep financial doo-doo, on the other the club is suddenly splashing out record amounts for player/s.

Is the transfer outlay getting a financial boost, are there ducks paddling in the St James Moat.

    Well said Neil.

He’s squealing like a stuck pig. Anyone who says things don’t effect him is talking a load bollix I’m afraid. He’s given interviews about nufc when he’s under pressure.

The sky sports interview and now this one. Each time there seems like there’s a reason. I can’t think what it is though, perhaps TMG or LMG or AO or MAOC or EFA might know?

The man is a chancer who’s chanced his arm one time to many.

Wow, he’s come out swinging. Its great to have something we can analyse than the usual no comment and silence. Sadly unless he is prosecuted for tax reasons, his limited liability status will presumably mean that SD problems wont affect his nufc ownership.

“I think I could own this club forever”. He just can’t resist an extra dig amongst his faux epiphany of reason, just like he couldn’t resist his sly two fingers the last time pressure got to him.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised, given the stakes involved, if one of his colleagues saves their own skin and throws him under the bus.
