Wales Online is reporting that a fee as little as £15m could be enough to capture the signature of Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.
Newcastle United and Aston Villa to go head-to-head in £15m battle for Liverpool and Wales starlet Harry Wilson #LFC #NUFC #AVFC https://t.co/fuO9PVgFML
— WalesOnline Sport (@WelshSportLive) July 26, 2019
Yesterday Football Insider first reported of Newcastle’s renewed interest in the Welsh international. It was reported late in May that Liverpool would give the 22-year-old a chance to land a first-team place at Anfield.
That, however, always seemed unlikely for Wilson to be able to accomplish at the Champions League winners. It appears that after four starts in the preseason, Jurgen Klopp has made up his mind on the attacker.
At £15m, Wilson would be a great signing. The report in the Welsh publication does also say that a loan with an option is something Liverpool would consider however the fee to buy would then be increased to £20m.
Earlier this summer, Wilson’s fee was reported to be in the £20m range so we are not sure why it would have been lowered at this point.
We would hope that Newcastle would be able to beat Villa to this player’s signature. Aston Villa have signed two right-sided attackers this summer and have brought their spending to well over £100m. One thing that Wilson will be looking for is a place where he will get first-team opportunities.
He will likely get that at both Newcastle and Aston Villa but we have to be skeptical that Villa can continue to spend in this capacity. So they may be looking at the player as more of a loan signing than in a permanent move.
Wilson is a left-footed set-piece specialist who generally plays on the right. He has a decent long-range shot on him as well.
He also has a bit of versatility and can play on the left or as an attacking midfielder. We think he would be an excellent signing for the quoted amount and would provide the squad with a very good option in the attack.

I think it can only have a positive impact on us, hopefully they do have financial issues, he will always have SD in higher regard than nufc or any other business. If they are having financial problems then the asking price might well come down and the chance of him leaving for good is alot closer

Comment #2Our Toon, totally my understanding too.
If SD are in the shite and need money to restructure that business then selling an asset would be the way to go.
Hopefully now if stories are true someone will offer him 250 – 300 and he will have to take it and it’s bye, bye Ash the cash.

I live with two Liverpool fans so we have watched him a lot for Derby. They’re really excited about this lad and don’t want him to go. He’s in a difficult position trying to get into that front three.
I would snap at the chance to buy him. Has significant potential and is a very exciting player to watch.

Comment #12I’d certainly take him for 15m. Bit rough around the edges but if he can get rid of them, theres a very promising player beneath. I’d rather him than max tbh, the sole reason being he’s english/welsh. Knows english football and would take as long as maximin would, in theory. I’m thinking back to marveaux, cabella and thauvin, all disasters. Dont fancy taken another punt on a frenchy.
This lad is quick, a grafter, chips in with goals and can hit a dead ball with devastating effect. How many corners, freekicks have we had in last 3 years that have either hit the first man or the stands????
I’d be pleased if we brought him in.

Comment #14Re: last thread – that’s right we already have ginger Jack – Colbackayoko.
In regards to the jersey sales – don’t all the different stores get them from Puma?
Puma pays the club (MASH, who knows?) for the right to supply our kit and sell Newcastle jerseys. Newcastle (or MASH holdings) would get a cut from the general sales as well, and whatever outlet sells the shirt gets their cut (could be club shop, could be SD, etc.).
Crazy thing is with the way Ashley has divided up the club into all this mini-companies maybe the shirt deal with Puma doesn’t actually go to the club at all… at least not directly.
Hurts my heed.

Ben arfa played a handfull of good games for us, where he was stellar. Trouble is, for the rest of the time he was a waste of space due to his attitude. I don’t think him and a few others deserve to be in that list alongside the likes of Ginola.

Comment #19Toonces, the club shop is a franchise of Sports Direct, therefore the profits go to SD. The branding and Intellectual Property is held by MASH Holdings, so royalties go there.
The club also pays Sports Direct for the right to have them hold stock for us in their warehouse. Millions annually.
We probably actually make a negative amount for each club shirt sold.

Comment #21hibbit, as would I – I’d also be happy with either one and Saint Maximin.
I think we’ll likely get one of the three.
I do wonder if the fact Saint Maximin is suddenly back with the Nice squad is because we have shifted target. It’s possible, I guess.

I’m not disputing some of those players mentioned weren’t good players, but they were all bought at a fraction of whats been mentioned for maxi. I just see the point in spending that amount, when you can get a proven(albeit championship) player with probably the same attributes and potential for less money. I’ll be honest i havent seen maxi play, but everytime i’ve seen wilson play, i’ve mostly been impressed, he can only get better.

Comment #23Not going to happen, only players to be announced after Linton will be loans and freebies , with 2 weeks to go before season starts you can expect the couldn’t get it over the line excuses to Bruce…. clearly he already knows we can’t get things over the line because we offer low ball fees that are rejected out of hand, Shearer et al have already told him how they work

Comment #24Watched Wilson in Liverpool’s friendly game in New York on the telly the other day and was impressed with him. I’d be over the moon if we got him. If we got him the problem would then be we’ve got all these players who can supply assists but no real out and out striker like Rondon to bang them in. Of course we still have Gayle, but we need someone with a real eye for goal at Premier League levels of skill.

In the meantime the share price has yo yo’d mostiy downwards like the Mackems league position.
Someone must be gaining from this position so the Stock Exchange should surely have suspended trading in their shares as this sort of trading is I suspect not entirely within the rules.
Have they done anything ? No. Why not ?

Comment #36just to clear this up
Demba Ba (born 25 May 1985) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays as a striker for Turkish club ?stanbul Ba?ak?ehir and the Senegal national team.
He made his first-team debut with French team Rouen in 2005 before moving to Mouscron and onto 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany in 2007. In 2011, he moved to Premier League side West Ham United. He played only 12 games for West Ham and despite being their league top goal scorer in the 2010–11 season, they were relegated to the Championship and Ba moved to Newcastle United. In January 2013, he completed a move to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, before joining Be?ikta? for €6 million 18 months later. After one season in Turkey, he moved to Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League.
Born and raised in France, Ba has been a full international for Senegal since 2007 and represented the country at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
