Newcastle To Battle This Summer’s Big Spenders For £15m-rated Winger

Wales Online is reporting that a fee as little as £15m could be enough to capture the signature of Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.

Yesterday Football Insider first reported of Newcastle’s renewed interest in the Welsh international. It was reported late in May that Liverpool would give the 22-year-old a chance to land a first-team place at Anfield.

That, however, always seemed unlikely for Wilson to be able to accomplish at the Champions League winners. It appears that after four starts in the preseason, Jurgen Klopp has made up his mind on the attacker.

At £15m, Wilson would be a great signing. The report in the Welsh publication does also say that a loan with an option is something Liverpool would consider however the fee to buy would then be increased to £20m.

Earlier this summer, Wilson’s fee was reported to be in the £20m range so we are not sure why it would have been lowered at this point.

We would hope that Newcastle would be able to beat Villa to this player’s signature. Aston Villa have signed two right-sided attackers this summer and have brought their spending to well over £100m. One thing that Wilson will be looking for is a place where he will get first-team opportunities.

He will likely get that at both Newcastle and Aston Villa but we have to be skeptical that Villa can continue to spend in this capacity. So they may be looking at the player as more of a loan signing than in a permanent move.

Wilson is a left-footed set-piece specialist who generally plays on the right. He has a decent long-range shot on him as well.

He also has a bit of versatility and can play on the left or as an attacking midfielder. We think he would be an excellent signing for the quoted amount and would provide the squad with a very good option in the attack.

Xenophobic? Give over, man. He was making direct comparisons of this new French alleged head case to three of our most renowned French failures.

Just got through to Mike Ashley on his mobile. “I’ve got no comment, my friend”. Asked him when we can expect an update “no comment”. I said “it would be really helpful if your advisors could tell people what’s going on.” Response: “No comment”.

Agreed on HBA but imagine how he would have played in a more attacking team, imagine what he would’ve been like if pardew wasnt the manager!!

Still he scored some worldie goals that I’ll never forget

Would definitely approve the signing of Harry Wilson. He is a Marveaux type player who can challenge Almiron for a starting spot. We need creativity. Signing him is a no brainer. We need to start making moves. I want us to sign Mateta, Sidibe, Max/N’Soki,Lemina and Marrony at least.

I don’t think any suggestion of xenophobia is fair at all. It is factual that the three players mentioned were disastrous signings, and they were French. Add that to other French players we have had who were almost as disastrous. (obertan for instance) then avoiding “Frenchies”, especially wingers with apparent attitude problems, is a sensible thing to do. Making judgements on prospective French imports based on actual experience is completely logical. And not Xenophobic.

Jib: my bad, I didn’t go back through the posts so didn’t know the context – we’ve had some very poor players in general , don’t think we can single out any nationality .. like you say, we’ve had some great french players – would love to see a prime Ginola / Robert / Remy in our front line at the minute

I’m still not sure we can say pardew was responsible. HBA had previous with other managers before he got here, and again after he left. There were definitely players who were “pardewed”, but I don’t really blame him for Benny. I agree we would probably got more out of him had we been less dull, but I still think it would have ended the same way.

Ba – “Cried to go” – bitter much?

Club also refused to renegotiate Ba’s contract because Colo wouldn’t have him making as much or more than him.

So Ba was stuck on a crappy contract but it had a meager 7M release clause and having to play the Pardew way to boot.

Chelsea had him on 60K or 70K/week reportedly as well. We easily could have done that, colo was on similar, and he had earned it.

Don’t blame him for leaving at all. Best striker in a Toon shirt in the past 12 years.

I listened to yous on the blog a month back mainly toon22 and olg so i decided to message chi. After our discussions about big screens fan zones.
She has been in contact with me personally.
Sign chi petition get as many signatures on it as possible.
She is doing it because she is a NUFC fan and can see what ashley is doing to the club due to her being here in newcastle.
I kinda trolled her last night/tofay online and it prompted her to release this today.
Keep the pressure up ashley this time.
We topple him from the tower.
It may be a long war but its one we will never gove up on.
I love Newcastle United Football Club me it was one of my first true loves and always will be.
I will fight to the end for my club.

Yeah there have been others, but since we are talking about a French winger in this case, it follows that we’d draw on the past other French signings for comparison.

Mindshaft – Rumours were rife around the club that Colo had an oversize influence on the wage structure, his own playing time and more and this was held over the other players.

So Ba threw a fit at being forced out wide. At least he still played there and played well. Wouldn’t be the first player to complain about playing out of position.

And Ba was on a real poor contract – reportedly 20K/wk plus goal bonuses – due to his supposedly dodgy knee that never was a problem in his career but was used by the club (and others like West Ham) to devalue him.

So it’s his fault for trying to get a better deal at the club or elsewhere after all that? How shameful.

    Aye Collo was a problem.
Finished for his last 2 years but still picked.

Never picked from day one by Rafa.
Big part of the success Rafa had was the fitness of the team and the improved situation with injuries.
A lot of it is discipline and setting standards.

Players at NUFC had been taking the P for years.
Will it go back to that.
