Three local journalists are reporting issues with Newcastle’s pursuit of Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen.
Liam Kennedy has written in the Shields Gazette that Newcastle are unwilling to match the Hull’s £20m fee for the twenty-two-year-old.
Lee Ryder with the Chronicle also echoes those sentiments and has sent the following tweet on this development.
#nufc are refusing to pay the £20million asking price for Hull's Jarrod Bowen.
— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) July 27, 2019
Keith Downie with Sky Sports is reporting that Jarrod Bowen is on the back burner for now. That may be due to the reported asking price.
Newcastle back in for PSG left-back Stanley N’Soki. Tried to sign him last summer. PSG value him at £12m. Lazio also keen. Understand Hull’s Jarrod Bowen is a non-starter for now #NUFC
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 27, 2019
We suspect that the top two targets right now are Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin and PSG’s Stanley N’Soki who Newcastle currently have bids in for. We have yet to hear if either of the reported bids have been rejected though both are less than the asking prices of the players.
Both players did not feature in their pre-season friendlies today so that may be some good news.
Steve Bruce did not have too much information on the transfer front after today’s game. Mark Douglas from the Chronicle did tweet this about Bruce’s response on transfers.
Not much from Bruce on transfers but 'quietly confident #nufc are edging closer to one or two'.
Suggested it could be in next 24-48 hours.

Comment #125Froggy: I doubt the Belgian tax dodge will screw SD up. It is like Amazon over here where they avoided sales taxes for years by not having brick and mortar stores in a lot of states. I am sure the SD lawyers will use the same tactic as Amazon did to avoid any taxes and fines. I could explain more but it is boring, so I won’t.
The more worrying thing for Fatty is that he took on all the liabilities of House of Fraser. They really don’t have a business anymore. No Department Stores do, except online or multi-use like flats, restaurants and bars to drive traffic. H of F do not own their buildings, so he would have to strike deals with the owners for redevelopment. If anything is to bring Ashley down it will be House of Fraser, not the tax issues.
Amazon killed the Department Store.

even under pards we had a decent starting 11 squad depth has and seems to be our main weakness
i dont see that changing we wont pay the going rate for top 1st teamers let alone bench players

Comment #130Pure speculation. However, would you buy nufc for 350M if you knew this was going to kick off. You’d surely think hang on a second, I’ll wait until he is really desperate and buy it for less.
All of the city folk will have known about this for months or heard rumours of same.

Comment #132Department Stores as we know them are the new video stores. Ashley didn’t see it. I also don’t think that House of Fraser has a big enough brand presence to compete online. He has to change it to multi use or he is dead.

Comment #136Is he in the doo doo. Well who knows.
Thing is nearly 40% of Sports Direct shares are owned by other folks. Pension funds, investors and the like. he has frozen them out and ran the company as if he is the 100% owner.
Under company rules you are supposed to do the best you can in the interests of all shareholders. Even if they only hold a few thousand shares.
Has he. Well probs not but as someone said earlier very difficult to prove.
Funny though. All the things he accuses others of. The board at debs etc are the very thing he does.
Failing to look after the interests of the shareholders etc etc.

Comment #137SD will be fine, they’ll make an agreement with the Belgians. These things happen to companies from time to time so nothing for Ashley to be worried about but it will cost him a little though. Not anywhere near the ridiculous amount they are looking for though

Comment #146The tax issues aren’t going to sink SD which is what I am saying to the Frog. I think there are opportunities for ex-department stores but these are multi-use. It is like turning old warehouses into loft apartments.

Comment #148I’m a little concerned about Joelinton and St Maximim being less effective than Perez and Rondon, at least initially, who were both very capable and experienced in this league, also N’soki being a kid is a concern in terms of how he’d cope at first, if at all, coming out of France and at 19. You can see why Rafa wanted to build a squad his way. Going almost exclusively for young foreign players really isn’t the percentage play. Mike Ashley does seem oblivious to this. If you are gonna go exclusively for young players, then the first place you’d look is the Championship, surely, and you’d want to be very very sure, if you’re taking a young player from abroad to slot straight in to the first team, especially one that no longer has Rafa Benitez preparing it. .

Comment #158Am I defending Ashley on taxes? No. I am saying the same thing has happened before with Amazon. I am also saying his Department Store strategy as it stands is dead. Amazon killed the Department Store as it is now. He will have to change it to multi-use.
I am not an accountant as Abe seems to think. I am a Certified Financial Planner and have had a stock brokers license for over 20 years.
Abe has got some wrongheaded stuff into his head about me, but that is nothing less than I would expect. All you have to do is watch an episode of The Simpsons to know what I am talking about.

Comment #159Froggy: I have been a NUFC fan for over 40 years. Can’t get to home games as I live too far away but watch almost every game. The TV contracts are now the bulk of NUFC revenue so by watching on TV I am indirectly paying the players wages.
