Newcastle have lost in their third pre-season game of the season 2-1 at Preston which we were able to listen to on the Newcastle United website.
Newcastle took the field at Deepdale in their new away strips which we think look very nice. They again played in the 3-5-2 that was debuted against West Ham.
Newcastle have played in a 3-5-2 for both of their preseason matches since Steve Bruce joined the club. They have had to get creative in putting players in some unfamiliar positions to make this formation work.
We are wondering if they do plan to keep using this going forward as they are currently heavily linked to three wide players in Allan Saint-Maximin, Jarrod Bowen, and Harry Wilson.
Steve Bruce started the game with Rolando Aarons playing as a striker alongside Yoshinori Muto with Javier Manquillo as the right wing-back and Matt Ritchie on the left.
It was a Jonjo Shelvey 39′ free kick that opened the scoring in a tepid first half.
Ritchie loves it, full on creasing after the goalkeeper’s howler, brutal. ?#NUFC

Newcastle would change nine of the outfield players to start the second half leaving Woodman in goal and Fernandez at the back as the only starters remaining.
Second-half starting XI: Woodman, Sterry, Fernández, Lascelles, Clark, S. Longstaff, Ki, Colback, Murphy, Almirón, Joelinton. 0-1. #NUFC
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) July 27, 2019
Bruce kept the formation the same but this time had Murphy playing the left-wing back position. New signing Joelinton played upfront with Miguel Almiron just behind him.
Joelinton won a penalty with his first touch of the game as he was brought down after making a nice turn.

But it was Miguel Almiron who would take the penalty and have it saved by Declan Rudd.

Jamie Sterry would give away a penalty after handling a cross in the box. Really poor from Sterry as he raised his right arm to knock down the cross. Paul Gallagher was able to then score from the spot in the 60th minute.

Joelinton would then concede a penalty as he stuck his right foot out and struck a Preston player. However, we think it was quite harsh as he has gone for the ball in a 50/50 with the Preston player.

All in all, it is just a pre-season match and we are not too worried about the performance. It looks like Newcastle are in advanced negotiations for two French players in Allan Saint-Maximin and Stanley N’Soki.
It also looks like N’Soki is very keen to come to Newcastle.
He likes the ‘project’ and the passion of the fans ? #NUFChttps://t.co/Kv9dsLdW5c

It also doesn’t look like Allan Saint-Maximin got onto the pitch for Nice in their friendly at Cardiff.

Maybe you wouldn’t get called out for your shite patter so much if you just took a moment to read back what you are about to post instead of going all guns blazing with some incoherent tosh.
And why add three dots to every other line? At least it’s better than your PMSL or LMFAO that you used to do every 5 mins for no reason.
Just sayin.

Comment #46I’m thinking Ashleys interview may have done him more harm than good considering what Caulkin and others have said about it.
It should be a fun day Sunday tomorrow with all the PR rolled out again.
Is the sunday supplement on tomorrow haven’t watched it in a while and was wondering whether Samuel’s would be on??

Comment #47It’s only a friendly (I really do believe that)
There’s still time to get some new bodies in.
We’ll have to go with what we’ve got. Good bunch etc etc
Difficult start, judge us after 10 games
Let’s see where we are by Christmas
We are looking to get some reinforcements in January
January prices are too inflated. I trust these lads.
Just didn’t have enough. Gave their all but it wasn’t enough.

That says it all.
Bruce after match said they had “one or two” irons in the fire for signings.
That lot need 5 or 6 MINIMUM
Even allowing for the two ridiculous penalties given to Preston it was an abysmal showing
He clearly wanted to keep the anti-Newcastle refereeing of last few seasons going

Comment #64Nice goal by Jonjo! My favorite goals are always the ones scored from well out. Seems like a couple of mishaps made all the difference in this one (missed PK, and an inadvertent handball). No TV feed here in the States, so we could only listen to a play-by-play call. I don’t tweet, myself, but I’m thankful for the clips above showing the lads in their new kit. I’ll agree with Neil (haha) and say it looks very smart! Also looks like attendance was pretty low, judging by the background of Almiron’s PK clip.
Hate to say it, but Newcastle have a hard row to hoe. With the mostly wasted transfer season, the buyout fiasco, and the dubious hiring of Steve Bruce….what a mess! One can only hope that once the proper season starts, the team will have gelled and they can get it done on the pitch for the fans. Because as much as everyone hates MA, and doesn’t want him to succeed, it’s hard to not want the team itself to win games.

Comment #75Dummet has few good games and then he will be caught out and give away howlers. I think ppl look at how much heart and effort they give and judge them on that instead of actual talent. Dummet is good to have on the bench but not to rely on as a season long first teamer. Hes just not good enough, same with richie hes our best crossed of the ball but only because literally the rest of the team dont even know what a cross is let alone deliver one.
We will never go anywhere other than down with these types of players as regular starters.
I respect ye guys opinions but I just feel myself they are not good enough for the first team.
