Report – Newcastle To Go After Premier League Midfielder

The Sun’s Alan Nixon has an article that Steve Bruce is planning to strengthen Newcastle’s midfield with a bid for Everton’s James McCarthy.

McCarthy was linked to Newcastle along with teammate Yannick Bolasie a couple of weeks ago.

In fact, James had been deemed a constant target when Rafa Benitez was at the helm but was always priced out of a move to Newcastle.

James McCarthy– long-term target now available

Nixon says that Steve Bruce and Newcastle are plotting a £5m move for the Republic of Ireland international. McCarthy, however, is 28-years-old and has a history of injuries.

While £5m would be a good deal for a Premier League experienced midfielder, Mike Ashley seems unwilling to sanction a few extra million to get top target Allan Saint-Maximin over the line. So we’ll remain skeptical on this link until we see that a bid is made.

We do have a good core in midfield at the moment with Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden, Ki Sung-yueng, and Jonjo Shelvey but really should be adding another body for depth.

They are a couple of injuries away from being short. Both Sean Longstaff and Jonjo Shelvey had major injuries last year. There is always Jack Colback who we suppose could do a job as cover.

In retrospect, it seems a poor decision to have let Mohamed Diame go. He’s worked with Steve Bruce at Hull City and has loads of experience. He would be a better option than Colback.

So maybe McCarthy has been identified as a good replacement for Diame. Though we do think if Newcastle bring in another midfielder it will likely be one quite a few years younger.

    Munster,
We’d lost six in a row to the mackems who were becoming very well drilled under FSA, it was vital we didn’t lose, was it after that game that you compared his tactics with your ar$e?

Whilst SD may be tanking it holds enough on its balance sheet to cover fines etc, Ashley holds no liability , only thing that will affect him is that his shares will lose a lot of value. Not sure why people think this will affect nufc as they are separate entities and toon us self sufficient other than the debt we owe Ashley.

Repost (in case MR B’s PA missed it)

    Mr Baloney

Your claims become more incredible by the hour.

So, as well as being a Series 7 US stockbroking specialist as being a Certified Financial Planner, your avatars suggest that you now a more than capable photographer. Impressive, yet you continue demonstrate behaviours that suggest aggressive tendencies, instability, inconsistency and childishness – traits one wouldn’t ordinarily expect to see in such an eminently qualified and practicing professional.

Will the real Tony Baloney please stand up?

Jib you have serious competition stateside – you’re in danger of losing your world title.

Why is every piece of fiction spouted by some hack answered as if it were fact.
This story has no legs whatsoever.
Our most competitive area of the pitch and somewhere we’ve been told we’re not strengthening.
I’d give this story a 0.1/10 chance of happening.

    Munster,
I seen Murphy’s home debut against Hellas Verona, he had shit loads of the ball and his end product was poor, no man management can coach that if the shirt was to heavy for him, he went to WBA on very nixed reviews who have sent him back. I don’t need to tell you for the 1000th time that Rafa wanted Townsend who would probably cost 30M now if you wanted to buy him, we’d be lucky to get five for Murphy.

I think only two more players will come in – N’soki and Maximin. Both players fit Ashley’s transfer blue print – Young and have a potential to significantly increase in value.

I wonder if there will be a number of last minute sales – Gayle, Dubravka, Lejeune
