The Chronicle are reporting that two Championship clubs are interested in taking goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan for the upcoming season. It seems that Freddie is very keen to get first-team opportunities, and as that is not going to happen at Newcastle, he is eager to take advantage of any loan deals that come up.

While Woodman is far from the finished article, he has a lot of potential. Keeping him at the club last year and denying him a chance to get vital first-team games on loan was a very poor decision in retrospect.
He made just 3 appearances in the FA Cup for the Newcastle first-team and that is far too little for a player who needs experience to continue his development.
Newcastle had Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot as experienced back-ups and that would have been enough cover for the position.
Freddie Woodman– needs to sign a new contract then go straight out on loan
Newcastle and Woodman now stand at a crossroads with the 22-year-old entering the last year of his contract.
Reports are that Newcastle kept Woodman at the club last season for punitive reasons due to them not being able to agree on a new contract.
We can understand if Rafa Benitez decided that he needed Freddie as cover just in case of an injury crisis but to block any moves due to a contract dispute seems extremely harsh for a player still developing.
Woodman was asked about his situation last month and this is what he said.
“It’s difficult for me to say.
“I’ve got a year left on my contract. It’s an awkward situation.
“I just want to keep getting games and minutes and learn as much as I can.”
We hope that Steve Bruce can have a chat with the young goalkeeper and hopefully, a new deal can be worked out.
Woodman has a lot of work to do to before he is ready to play regularly for Newcastle but to lose him now would be very disheartening.
Newcastle have just announced the signing of 20-year-old Jake Turner who will step into the reserves. He, like Woodman, has a lot of potential and will need to be developed.
We hope that Turner is not being brought in as a replacement for Freddie. We need to keep our best youngsters at the club while continuing to scout and finding top young talent to bring in.

Comment #2A loan move makes sense for this lad, surprised he didn’t get one for the whole of last season. We should be getting hin signed up to a new contract first though before loaning him out

Comment #6Looking increasingly likely we’re not improving our first XI but possibly might meet the same level as last year with unknowns such as joe linton
We have however drastically reduced the quality of our coaching staff
So far relegation looks probable

The bus is at the next stop, but to answer a question from the last article….(2 articles back!)
Bills Son (and any others that are interested) – regarding the picture of Rafa – there have been some technical difficulties of late with the banner that Ed has been trying to get sorted. Ed and Neil haven’t made a decision yet on what will be on the banner once it’s fixed.

Manchester United have reportedly sealed a verbal agreement with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic over a big-money move from Lazio.
The midfielder’s agent is due to fly into London to hold further talks with the Old Trafford side.
However, any move is likely to depend on whether want-away star Paul Pogba completes a move to Real Madrid.

Balotelli maybe on high wages or will have a higher wage demand but maybe a bigger signing on fee might entice him?
As for the other 2 they are getting older and I cant imagine HBA being on big money at Rennes, Cahill needs a club and is 32 I think so cant imagine him asking for massive amounts

Comment #31At the next Fans Forum, sometime in the 2020s, can one of the prearranged/veted questions be, ‘What is the long term vision for the club and what are the steps required to achieve these aims?’
Since Rafa has said “Unfortunately it became increasingly clear to me that those at the top of the club did not share the same vision.”
