Joelinton, Schar, and Shelvey All Start At Easter Road

Newcastle have released the squad for tonight’s friendly in Edinburgh against Hibernian. Joelinton will get his first start. It looks like Steve Bruce will continue with the 3-5-2 formation

This is the penultimate friendly for the club as they continue to prepare for the opening game against Arsenal. The next friendly will be at St James Park against St-Etienne this coming Saturday.

It certainly does look like it’s going to be 3-5-2 for Newcastle to start the season as Steve Bruce has used that for the past three friendlies and there is only one left to go. Hopefully, the team can get used to the formation and put in a better performance than last Saturday against Preston.

But pre-season is about fitness and team cohesion so we’ll not worry too much about the result but hope to see a decent performance nonetheless. Most importantly, let’s hope all the lads come through this match unscathed.

Incidentally, Allan Saint-Maximin is starting for Nice against Burnley this evening. So it looks as if that deal is a ways off if it is still even in progress at all.

Probably the best first 11 we have minus Dubs and in goal and Lejeune for Dummett when fit.

    Bus.. repost..

I’ve accepted Rafa is gone but just wanted to comment on the reported Rafa meeting in May with the owner of Dalian in Madrid.

Rafa was in the last year of his contract. As I understand it in the last 6 months of his contract he is free to look for his next job and can negotiate with anyone without repercussions. I think this is pretty typical.

Rafa doesn’t want to stay under Ashley with the status quo but is hoping for the takeover to happen. Realizes in May that Ashley won’t change his spots and he can’t trust him. Ashley is trying to use his famous delaying tactics to wait Rafa out and get him on a last minute deal thinking he has nowhere to go.

Rafa keeps his options open. Takes the meeting with Dalian in May and has an offer on the table that will be there in case Newcastle sale doesn’t happen.

Last week of June rolls around. No sale. Ashley realizes that Rafa won’t sign and announces Rafa won’t be continuing at the club.

Rafa calls Dalian and says – I paraphrase – “if the offer is still on the table, I’m your man” It was. He signs.

Ashley tells Charnley to call Steve Bruce.

I think this is most likely the scenario and what happened. No subterfuge on Rafa’s part. He just kept his cards close to his vest. No need to announce anything on his part – he was waiting until the last minute to see what happened with the takeover before signing anything up until he was out of contract. Plan A was Newcastle under a new owner. Plan B was China. Occams’ razor and all that.

We should be signing Harry Wilson for £20m. That’s a must buy. He can play as an attacking midfielder as well as a winger and plays like Marveaux..

We need at least 5 new players in before the end of next week.

    N’Soki/Max
    Harry Wilson – £20m
    Allan Saint-Maximin – £17m
    Jarrod Bowen – £14m
    Mauro Icardi – £60m

Ketsbaia – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re on drugs. Still, you’re always good for a laugh if you think De Gea, Pogba, Sanchez, Rashford, Wan-Bissaka, Shaw or Lingard wouldn’t get into our first team.

And let me say, I’m not saying that any of these players are outstanding, I’m merely comparing them to what we currently have in our squad right now.

Yeah, Icardi would definitely want to come to Newcastle (even if we could afford his transfer fee and wages). He’ll not get a better offer than signing for us.

Just thought I’d pop on and read some of the latest crap…

    I wasn’t disappointed…

What an utter load of pompous twaddle this is from Robleenio…

The gist is no poster should make any comment that in any way ruffles the feathers of the snowflake, can’t sleep at night neggers and doom mongers who dominate the blog.

Not a word about the ton of flack and sh!t that comes flying in the face of those who dare to offer a different opinion.

    Robleenio – replying to Jib…

Jib from way earlier I didn’t say you were trying to rub fans noses in it, I was saying that by telling fans that their sacrifice in giving up their season tickets is for nothing, you are indeed rubbing their noses in it

I was suggesting you could show some tact towards those who are acting in hope and desperation. They know full well they could be undermined by their fellow fans, it probably keeps them awake at night. The last thing they need is someone telling them directly that their gesture is for naught.

    THE LAST THING THEY NEED???

    Poor little diddumses.

Nope, I disagree. Dubravka is better than D’Gea, Shelvey is better than Pogba, Yedlin is much better than Wan-Bissaka (wjhat a waste), Almiron is better than Lingaard. Our new left back and striker will be better than Shaw and Sanchez. We have the better players.
