Joelinton Scores As Newcastle Much Improved At Hibernian

In an open game, Newcastle seemed more comfortable and were much the better side. They were all over Hibernian and but for a really good performance by their goalkeeper Ofir Marciano, it could have been 3 or 4 to 1. Joelinton was excellent and seems to be linking very well with Almiron.

But it was Hibs to strike first with a goal at 10 minutes by Stevie Mallan. A few seconds after the goal, Matt Ritchie was taken off with what might have been a groin injury. He was replaced by Aarons. This will be a concern for Steve Bruce but hopefully it is not too serious.

The team changed at times to a 4-4-2 with Hayden playing on the right. Newcastle kept their composure and continued to attack until Joelinton tied the game up with a very nice goal.

Joelinton really impressed in this first half. Almiron is pressing for his first goal as he was played in by a great pass by Shelvey but had the shot saved by Hibernian keeper Marciano.

After Joelinton was seen to by the medical staff for a slight knock, Sean Longstaff was able to rifle it into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

This was a very good performance by the team so far with a special mention for the play of Joelinton, Almiron, Shelvey, and Longstaff.

5 players leaving the PSG tour tomorrow and heading back home. N’Soki is one of them. Coming to the toon?

Great goal by Longstaff, wonderful strike. Glad to see Joelinton off the mark. Almiron needs a goal now.

I’m just expecting to see Dubravka and Longstaff leave before the window closes and I’ll be left stunned if we have either (or even both) in the squad for the Arsenal game.

Expect the worst and you won’t be disappointed – the Ashley family motto.

Super shola could be good news.

We were reported to be close to an agreement.

If Ritchie’s knackered then we need him more than ever

Why a new thread in middle of game?

The info re. Dubs was from the Scunnymags guy!

Seemed to think he was on his way from Dundee (?) does not being on bench count in a friendly?

Dubs can’t come on second half because he’s not on the bench. Just hope that like Lejeune he’s wrapped in cotton wool to protect him for the Arsenal match and to give him time to recover from the hangover from Lejeune’s Wedding.

So important to have a dominant keeper to support the back four and give confidence to the team. The most successful clubs have the best keepers.

Maximin deal was reported earlier as done at £17m halfway between our bid of £14m and their demand for £20m.
He must just be keeping fit for us If he’s playing tonight.

Joelinton has had to decent runs into box, first he should have shot but squares to a defender, 2nd decent run cut back to no one.

Decent runs, should’ve shot and probably scored from the position.

Jib – although that is good news. I would prefer we sort out our attack first as we have absolutely no goals in this team. Our defense is our strongest area of the team. Really really hope this is not the end of our spending and we pump up the cash for Saint-Maximin at least.
