RMC Sport are reporting that Newcastle United have agreed on a fee of £16.5m for OGC Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin.
Accord trouvé pour Allan Saint-Maximin à Newcastle. Transfert autour de 18 millions d'euros avec pas mal de bonus. Le joueur s'apprête à signer un contrat de 6 ans avec le club anglaiis #Mercato #RMCSport

This tweet translates to:
Agreement found for Allan Saint-Maximin with Newcastle. Transfer around 18 million euros with a lot of bonuses. The player is about to sign a 6-year contract with the English club
It looks like Lee Charnley’s trip to the Mediterranean has paid dividends this time. This is a good deal for a player who if he works hard can become a superstar.
This will be the second first-team player to come in this summer behind Joelinton, who also signed a 6-year deal. This could be a very exciting team with Joelinton, Almiron, and now hopefully Saint-Maximin upfront.
Newcastle now need to focus on getting in Stanley N’Soki from PSG and Emil Krafth from SC Amiens. They are reportedly very close to agreeing for these two players.
Then we hope there is a surprise signing in the form of a striker or additional wide player. Maybe even one of Liverpool’s Harry Wilson or Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen. This may be unlikely but would certainly be welcomed.
After that it’s time to bring Andy Carroll home and this will have been a very good window. But still lot of work left for all of this to happen.

Comment #5Curious as to what our formation will be – 3-2-2-3? 3CB, 2WB, 2CM, 3FW? The same as Rafa played?

I would have assumed some matches he’d switch between 2 up top or have the 3 up top. If he’s going to be sticking rigidly to 352/532 then we’ll be a little short in cm. one injury and then jack is on the bench. Unless little longstaff is going to be getting more involved.

Don’t forget lads to register your objection to the planning application of Strawberry Place as today is the last day for objections. I’ve done mine; sorry if I’m behind the curve on this one but I feel very strongly about it and one day we will have an owner who would have liked to develop the ground!
Jib I doubt you’re putting in an objection but you can report back to your owner that some are!

Comment #15Hopefully this signing will help us forget of the useless wingers we’ve had in recent history like Obertan! I have to admit I am still surprised that AshLie is spending some of the money on talent for once, and not on under £10m nobodies like Joselu. We need more though. Wilson and N’Soki next please.

Done mine, matey. It’d be incredibly short-sighted of the council to allow building there. Cheers for reminding people.

Comment #21Such is the love for our great club, if the team v Arsenal includes Miggy, Joey, Saint Maximin and N’soki it will be a sellout.
But at least Ashley will have spent £85 million on them! It’s a start!

Comment #22Danishmag- same as Atsu!? Seriously! Lol take a closer look mate. Atsu hasn’t dared tun at defenders in all the time he’s been here until only recently he tried it a couple of times. Saint-Maximin has 10x the skill Asu has on the ball.

I don’t think the council will allow it. They know the score with Ashley and will have plenty of objections to look at. Plus don’t they own the SJP land?

Comment #25Typical Newcastle under Ashley, making us just grateful we are getting someone half decent in, when we should of had this done over a week ago and nsoki and been looking to add more, but we end up just being happy with the bare minimum because we know from experience it could be so much less

Comment #26Colback, in my opinion gives far too many fouls. I would not have him in my squad, but it looks like he will remain due to his wages.
Cant hold his contract against the lad, the club gave him it – just dont rate him.
I still have concerns about Bruce, very underwhelmed – but Steve Harper rates him very highly.
Will be a very interesting season.

Comment #28This is the kind of signing we dont need.
A show pony with a attitude problem and I’m not talking about jib.
Every signing is a gamble we have to pray will cut it.
This lad hasn’t been signed to improve the squad or team he’s been bought in the hope he’ll treble in value in a few years.
I pray the signings bond and hit the ground running otherwise this season will be the worst under Ashley yet.
I want, Players for positions not players for pay days.

Comment #31What’s interesting is a front 3 of almiron, joelinton and ASM all have a bit of pace and can beat a man. Stick a man or two on one of them only gives space to other players and teams would be very brave to push high against us like they did last season.
If we had a manager that had good tactics then we could be a dangerous side when all are fit but typical, our manager don’t care for tactics.

Comment #32Hope this is true and that it works out for both parties. Obviously we already have, and will have, Les Miserables knocking every single thing that happens, unless Messi rocks up . Glad of this signing and hope for more, and more are definitely needed.

He belongs in a football circus, exciting and tricky and will get you on your feet, but rarely is there a end product.

Comment #39Money talks though. It really wouldn’t make any sense as if we ever get a decent owner who wants to compete on all levels including stadium capacity then surely anything out of town is going to be detrimental to the local economy. Not to mention the logistics. That is supposing that they’ll never give planning permission for the town moor.

Comment #40Bruce by all accounts is a good man manager, the problem is that he’s tactically poor and is of the old Mike Bassett England manager type. I posted a link to a good article on Saint-Max earlier , it mentioned on there that he’s never played well in a front 3.
Should be interesting to watch him play in our squad, he doesn’t like to pass by all accounts
