Report – Newcastle Back In For La Liga Defensive Midfielder

Estadio Deportivo are reporting that Newcastle still have an interest in Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou. There was a report in January that Newcastle were looking for a loan move for the defensive midfielder.

Amadou is a 26-year-old former French U19 international who just joined Sevilla from Lille in a €14m deal last summer. He did not find a consistent place in the Spanish team last season and ended up only making 7 starts in La Liga. It was in late January that there were reports in Spain that Rafa Benitez wanted to bring Amadou to Newcastle on a loan deal.

Ibrahim Amadou– may move again this summer

It doesn’t look like Amadou is in the plans of Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui for this coming season and Sevilla are looking to offload the player. However they want to recover most of the €14m fee they paid for him last summer.

Sevilla recently signed former Newcastle target Nemanja Gudelj this summer who plays the same defensive midfield role as Amadou.

While we don’t think Newcastle will pursue another midfielder this summer, it would not hurt to have made some contacts just in case a move is made late in the window for one of ours. Both Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff have been had speculation about their futures arise this summer.

We don’t think Sevilla would get anywhere near what they paid Lille for Amadou this summer and we would expect that there is not much in this link. However, it would be comforting to know that the club are preparing for any sudden departures this summer.

    C-dog,
Ireland will not sink once we leave the EU unless you’re talking about northern Ireland. The opposite is true.
The Irish economy grew by 8% last year compared to about 1% for the UK as they continued to benefit from foreign companies relocating from UK due to our troubles. After October they are expected to benefit even more and now enjoy a standard of living superior to england, as does nearly every north European country excluding the old eastern block. We are also way behind USA, Canada, and Japan. The only first world countries we are ahead of are the Mediterraneans and theyre catching up. If you take away the top 10% of people living here than standards of living for your average Brit are even lower, as our figures are scewered due to the large amounts of foreign millionaires attracted to London with Tory tax breaks which will only get better (for the rich) once we leave.

Rafa may not be a saint, but he is the best manager we have had since SBR! He is willing to work patiently to build a competitive club and was even willing to stay with Newcastle after being relegated, because he saw the potential of the club given its incredible fanbase.

And he built a very good squad, patiently, piece by piece, despite severe under investment by the greedy fool Ashley. So does he demand success / huge investment immediately like a Jose Mourinho? No. But does he demand that an owner allow him to slowly but surely improve a club, slowly and patiently improve players, build a team that works unselfishly and stays together? Most definitely!

There’s a week to go in transfers. Looks like we are getting players in the areas we need. Plenty time left to get the other. It’s obvious that multiple deals are being worked on.

Rafa is gone, move on. Don’t dwell in the negativity of the miserable frog.

You are falling into the trap of

    Rafa 100% good
The world unfortunately doesn’t work like that

    Maybe not:
    Ashley 100% bad
    Rafa 100% good

    But perhaps:
    Ashley 99% bad
    Rafa 99% good

What would be your scores?!!! 😉

Jermaine Jenas once described playing for Newcastle as living in a goldfish bowl… He didn’t mention this blog but I imagine the sentiment is the same.

Out of curiosity I googled Haymarket Pictures and the one shown by Jib is a picture of the Haymarket bus Station.

Not taking sides here just thought I’d clarify in my own mind if he was right or wrong and it looks as if he is correct with that picture.

Haven’t a clue if you know Newcastle or not but i’d assume you do.

It certainly looks nothing like it did when I lived, worked and socialised in the Toon all of those distant years ago.

You think Rafa stayed until the very end of his contract, simply because he was greedy for every last penny of his salary??

You don’t think any of the following or a combination of these is a more likely reason for his staying til the end:
    1. He believed a club takeover WAS a distinct possibility so he waited to see.
    2. He thought Ashley might be smart enough to not only not shoot his foot off let alone his own leg, and come to his senses and agree to RB’s requests.
    3. He waited to see if Ashley would bend to Rafa’s request and sign Rondon.

I honestly don’t get this Rafa is a greedy man nonsense!

No new contract was offered, only a one year extension.

The club chose not to act.

Jib – bad long term investment.
Republic has over 1000 multinationals based there. Purely to benefit from the low rate of Corporation tax ( and some tax avoidance “benefit” such as refunds. Rate is 12.50 %, They employ over 100,000 people there.
    Corporation tax here is 18-19%.
Boris will be after them to pay their dues – cue exodus.
EU are after them as well and issued a warning to the Republic a couple of days ago.

We are 15 times the population of the Republic – it’s clear these outfits make their money here and we get nowt.
