Report – Newcastle Back In For La Liga Defensive Midfielder

Estadio Deportivo are reporting that Newcastle still have an interest in Sevilla midfielder Ibrahim Amadou. There was a report in January that Newcastle were looking for a loan move for the defensive midfielder.

Amadou is a 26-year-old former French U19 international who just joined Sevilla from Lille in a €14m deal last summer. He did not find a consistent place in the Spanish team last season and ended up only making 7 starts in La Liga. It was in late January that there were reports in Spain that Rafa Benitez wanted to bring Amadou to Newcastle on a loan deal.

Ibrahim Amadou– may move again this summer

It doesn’t look like Amadou is in the plans of Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui for this coming season and Sevilla are looking to offload the player. However they want to recover most of the €14m fee they paid for him last summer.

Sevilla recently signed former Newcastle target Nemanja Gudelj this summer who plays the same defensive midfield role as Amadou.

While we don’t think Newcastle will pursue another midfielder this summer, it would not hurt to have made some contacts just in case a move is made late in the window for one of ours. Both Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff have been had speculation about their futures arise this summer.

We don’t think Sevilla would get anywhere near what they paid Lille for Amadou this summer and we would expect that there is not much in this link. However, it would be comforting to know that the club are preparing for any sudden departures this summer.

Jeff Bezos just sold $1.8 billion worth of Amazon stock! Maybe he fancies buying an EPL club that resides in the northeast of England!

Shaping up to have tactics of rapid attack with Miggy and ASM (if signed)Hope it is not straight hoof ball – but Shelvey picking out a runner, could cause panic in a defence. Slow attacks do allow the defences to get re- organised.
Funny if it all clicks together – although God know how the mix will pan out.

Yes. I agree. Rafas a great manager.

But he left for money. There’s no other rational explanation. And I don’t blame him. 12 million is a lot.

Jib’s an expert in nowt other than trying to show he is a expert. He’s got a double doctorate in bullchit!

As far as I know and I haven’t had a drink in that area of town for a number of years but as far as I know, The Blackie Boy’s still the Blackie Boy – at the bottom of the Groat Market. I think there was only one pub on or just off Northumberland Street – was it the Northumberland Arms?

Any of our Newcastle pub historians can clear that up for me?

    Luke
I believe Rafa would’ve stayed at Newcastle given guarantees and let’s face it, when you’re offered 12 million a year tax free you are in a strong bargaining position.
Why should he compromise his standards with an owner with no ambition and a struggle to avoid relegation cos he won’t buy quality players.
If we had an ambitious owner you wouldn’t get near the place for top managers vying for the job.
Everyone knows we are the biggest sleeping giant in world football in an era when we could easily get huge sponsorships!
