Frankfurter Rundschau and Fussballeck have published some comments former left-back target Jetro Willems made to the German outlet Bild.
It seems that Willems, who Newcastle were heavily linked with while he was at PSV, is looking to leave Frankfurt this summer due to limited playing time at the Bundesliga club.
This is part of what he has said to Bild.
“It’s not easy for me, I admit, I’ve had good times here, now they’re less so, not bad, but unhappy, my adviser is in talks, because I have to go to get ahead in my career and give a new push”
We wonder if Newcastle would still have any interest in the 25-year-old Dutchman. He would be a cheaper option than PSG’s Stanley N’Soki, though is older and would have a lot less potential.
He would also offer more going forward than the twenty-year-old Frenchman and would be a perfect fit for the left wing-back position.
Willems only started 7 games in the Bundesliga last season but did make 23 appearances. However, 17 of those were as a central midfielder and this seems to be a point of contention for Willems.
This is also what he said to Bild.
“To reach my goal and play again in the national team, I have to play left defender. As a midfielder, I have no chance at all.
“My consultant is in talks, because I have to go to get ahead to give my career a new push.
“I’m not disappointed with what’s happening. We created something special last season and I was part of it.
“I also became cup winner. Going to Frankfurt was definitely not a mistake.”
He certainly seems resigned to leave Frankfurt this summer. He joined them two seasons ago from PSV Eindhoven for around €5m and we would suspect Newcastle could get him for less than that now.
Willems would be a good experienced option at left wing-back and he would fit the role at Newcastle perfectly. This is a position of need for the club and we’re not sure N’Soki fits the role very well.
He could even be used as cover for central midfield. Or maybe that would not be a good idea.

I think he’s a good player, but my worry is Bruce won’t like him and will make him a scapegoat for not tracking back. If things go bad for Bruce and it will be a miracle if they don’t, he will want to make a point he didn’t sign the players and banishing ASM to reserves will do that. He’s so similar to my favourite player Ben Arfa, and Bruce hated him. I’m looking forward to seeing some skills, but I’d have paid double for Bowen and Wilson.

Comment #12And just as I say it on the previous post I’d like us to go for Jetro Willems, here he is lol.
So whilst I’m apparently good at predicting the future this morning I’m going to predict us to finish top of the prem on 100 points with 100 goals, top goalscorer Dubravka with 99 goals and the other 1 a 99th minute winner against Man City scored by Steve Bruce, 35 yard spinning overhead kick, bar and in followed by a triple backflip celebration.
You heard it here first.

Maybe the case on Bruce getting more of of Ashley .
Still grates that a business man could not see that with Rafa he would have got so much more bang for his Buck
I think in the end it came down to ash just hated the fact Rafa was adored …he mentioned the pantomime villain even that time so clearly it got to him .
I think it was jail who once mentioned that had Rafa kept us up there was no way he would have been kept on ,by Ashley .rafa would have got his agreed bonus and a thanks very much .followed by someone all Bruce being appointed and business as usual .
I don’t think it’s gone quiet at all to be honest I think most are just realising that Bruce is just a pawn and the real target of hate is ash and there is a lot going on behind the scenes with the various groups .
As for the defication on his grave …it’s more a figure of speech and yeah a bit much but coming from Newcastle I know some that for them the club is life and they are hurting .
I believe in karma and it’s coming Ashley’s way soon enough .

Worth a watch.
Apparently he prefers to play in the hole like a number 10. Should be interesting.
I would get Willems in too, we’ve been after this guy for ages, should be cheaper than N’Soki too and we all know Mikey loves a cheap deal.

Comment #16Interesting as well as there is all the woe is me talk about losing Perez who scored 1 in every 4.25 games and put his fingers in his ears as a comeback to the fans that were booing him.
30 million. A lot on here would have taken 10 million for him and ran this time last year. Actually, they would have taken it last Christmas.

Comment #19OFD- I think Fat Ash just wanted more control regarding transfers and such. Was tired of Rafa being so ambitious and asking for things. It seems we’re back with the head of recruitment (Steve Nickson) finding the players and not the manager as Rafa was doing. AshLie is still a total d1ckhead though.

Comment #20If Bruce wants to survive he needs to change his regular approach and play attacking football. Because if you don’t get results while playing defensively you won’t last long. If an attacking manager was doing poorly I’d give him time, if a proven winner started poorly I’d give him time, but if a proven loser plays dull football then I’ll want him out after one game. I still can’t get my head around what a terrible decision Ashley had made. His worst yet. He’s learned nothing in 12 years.

Comment #26the new season is nearly here , i’m looking forward to the new season . our rapid forward line giving defenders trouble we have decent players at the back ( yes we could do with a couple of good fullbacks ) we are well stocked in the centre half postions. a ball playing midfield player who can run at defenders . we have a good goalkeeper . think we need decent back up in that department though …
so howay you gloom and doom merchants support the team not the regime …

Comment #27Anyone got any speculation on shiek khaleds bid? There’s nothing to say its 100% off although Ashley’s said its unlikely now, and they’ve gone a bit quiet after saying the deal was done. My guess is their bid is short and they’re hoping Ashley will buckle, or they’re waiting for something to make things more favourable.

Comment #33Didn’t realise Ballotelli was available on a free. I’d snap him up. We also need to sign the following:
Phillip Max/N’Soki – £10-15m
Djibril Sidibe – £13m
Jarrod Bowen – £16m
Harry Wilson – £20m
Marega – £30m
Lemina – £20m
