More Details From Local Journalist On Willems To Newcastle Deal

Miles Starforth with the Shields Gazette has the following report on Newcastle’s move for Frankfurt left-back Jetro Willems.

Apparently, the move is still in the works but Newcastle are looking at an initial loan deal with an option to buy. This is a really good move by Newcastle. We don’t imagine any future fee for the 25-year-old would be too steep. Probably in the £4-5m range.

Willems does have a history of injuries. He suffered two major knee injuries while he was at PSV though he has not suffered any injury of significance over the past three years.

This will also free up some money for some other additions to the squad. We have an outside hope that one of Harry Wilson or Jarrod Bowen will still be added. While they would command fees around £20m, they are young British talent with very bright futures. Let’s see what happens.

We would also assume that this will put any move for Stanley N’Soki on the back burner at least for this summer.

There is still lots of work to do not only with adding a few more but also with outgoings as well. The squad has too many players who are just not good enough and will have to be moved on.

There will hopefully still be a lot of movement over the next six days as Newcastle shape a squad fit for the season ahead. This has the makings of a really exciting team with blinding pace.

Willems on the left with DeAndre Yedlin on the right when he returns would provide a lot of pace out wide. Combining them with Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin will give opposing defenses nightmares. We think Jonjo Shelvey is going to have a lot of fun playing in this side.

Think it makes better sense to get him on loan with the option to buy, hes not had the best of times and 2 big injuries as well, is he still the same player he was?

Kenedy is another good job we loaned him and didn’t sign him for 20 odd million. As long as an option to buy is put in the clause the a loan is a smart move

Rafa”s obviously not wanted him otherwise he’d have been here awhile ago at that price.

Definitely the best option to ‘try before you buy’ but I’m not sure we’re seriously after him with his potentially crocked knee. Probably a ploy to put a fire under the N’Soki deal.

The smart money would have been to buy Rondon as well as some of these young British players Newcastle always seem to miss a trick apart from signing Lascalles….. Bowen or Wilson would be perfect in the team we have but there are others Bournemouth seem to be stockpiling them and when they sell one it will be for big money!!

Rondon would have guaranteed us performance for the next 2 or 3 years and it could have meant we could have rotated him with Linton or played the 2 of them together! Imagine those 2 battering rams against teams!?!?

Signing Willems on a loan makes a lot of sense rather than buying him outright guessing he is not the first choice transfer target though?

Still feel we really need an experienced premiership striker before the window closes someone of Defoe’s quality etc not too many of them about for cheap though

So, everybody get yourself down to the SD store on Northumberland Street and join a meaningless protest of less than 2,000 who will then march to SJP and hand out fliers and pretend there were 10,000 in the protest because that’s how many had the A4 ASHLEY OUT cards.

(There were 18 down there at SD last time, I counted the legs.)

Then head off to the pub for the cheap vodka and say that was a demonstration/protest?

I’ve read a few people are worried about how the boycott fans and the fans going to the match interact.

I was at the Ashley out one a few years back, there was a bit of shouting and a few exchanges of words but nothing extreme.

I didn’t see any of the protesters pissed, they hadnt gone there for a day out to get drunk, a lot of the match going fans were drunk and they wa the majority of the angrier aggressive vocal type on the day.

Even if a pissed section turn up on the day it’s up to the sober sensible ones to tell them to wind their necks in.

The fight is with Ashley and SD not fan against fan or brother against brother not your sister or your mother.

No way Rondon would have stayed without Rafa.

We might have attracted better players and prem proven players with Rafa and his project but are now resigned to chancing our hand on unproven foreign players who may make a profit in the future.

I know Rafa is gone but I am finding it hard to move on with the current set up.

Might support Blyth Spartans as well when I move back so i can at least go and watch a game.

I’m not for or against boycotts and can’t do a lot from out here (apart from put the game on BFBS and walk out of the house) but i have no desire at present to go anyway near anything Ashley related!

When at school and two kids were fighting and one said “I’m going to kill you” did you ring the police saying a murder was about to happen?

Then never speak to that kid again because he’d attempted murder?

Frog: I want NUFC to succeed and think the protests are self defeating. Especially at the first game of the season where we need some positive momentum and not a pathetic march that will fail and hand out a bunch of fliers that will end up in the gutter.

The first few games are going to decide if there are small crowds if we take a spanking off Spurs and Arsenal and don’t beat Norwich then I think a lot of fans will lose interest anyway!

If for some miracle we were to beat Arsenal or at least get a draw you could possibly see people getting behind Bruce for a bit

Genjikai: if Dubai Mickey Mouse Club gave out an old address for Charnley that was not really the point was it!? He was still encouraging fans to harass Charnley’s family and if it was the wrong address they would be harassing another family not connected to Charnley FFS. Not that that even makes any difference.
