Miles Starforth with the Shields Gazette has the following report on Newcastle’s move for Frankfurt left-back Jetro Willems.

Apparently, the move is still in the works but Newcastle are looking at an initial loan deal with an option to buy. This is a really good move by Newcastle. We don’t imagine any future fee for the 25-year-old would be too steep. Probably in the £4-5m range.
Willems does have a history of injuries. He suffered two major knee injuries while he was at PSV though he has not suffered any injury of significance over the past three years.
This will also free up some money for some other additions to the squad. We have an outside hope that one of Harry Wilson or Jarrod Bowen will still be added. While they would command fees around £20m, they are young British talent with very bright futures. Let’s see what happens.
We would also assume that this will put any move for Stanley N’Soki on the back burner at least for this summer.
There is still lots of work to do not only with adding a few more but also with outgoings as well. The squad has too many players who are just not good enough and will have to be moved on.
There will hopefully still be a lot of movement over the next six days as Newcastle shape a squad fit for the season ahead. This has the makings of a really exciting team with blinding pace.
Willems on the left with DeAndre Yedlin on the right when he returns would provide a lot of pace out wide. Combining them with Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin will give opposing defenses nightmares. We think Jonjo Shelvey is going to have a lot of fun playing in this side.

Newcastle have completed the signing of Jetro Willems on a season long loan deal with an option to buy. The left back arrives from Eintracht Frankfurt. ASM to complete his move later today

Comment #205I bet Saint-Maximin gets the #10 shirt! He would do that number justice like HBA did and unlike Diame who was never a number 10 and shouldn’t have been given that number.

Looks like i’ve eaten my words, pretty sure i wasn’t the only one thinking it would go tits up.
Maximin could set the place on fire if he’s half ss good as a Ben Arfa, hopefully not as temperamental.
3 signings hasn’t won me over but it’s a start, he still hadn’t spent a penny though if you include last years and this years tv money.
Read an article earlier that if we sign we have to sell, (chronical) that sounds like we’re gonna lose a big name. Trying to stay positive but the negative slips out, who could blame me.

Comment #212I don’t think he’s spending to spite Rafa. And we haven’t really spent much yet. Just 20m but I think that will go up.

We will concede more goals no doubt, I’m also expecting more drubbings aswell. I cant see bruce parking 11 buses so drubbings will happen and more goals will be shipped, I’d say we will score more goals aswell though.
It’s the price you pay, it’ll be a better watch that’s for sure even though with probably less points than what we would get under rafa

Comment #215If its true that AC is signing for £15K a game he could be the signing of the season in the Prem.
We all know about his injury record but on a pay per play if he stays fit he is an awesome player on his day who can be totally unplayable by the best defenders in the world.
He is also a Geordie Toon fanatic through and through.
Injuries have blighted what could have been for AC but I bet if he comes he knows he could become a Toon legend up there with Milburn and Shearer if he plays in a cup winning NUFC side.
Him and his missus could live anywhere in the world with the money they have.
If he comes back here it won’t be for the money.
It will be to play for, and be part of, a winning Toon team.
In the words of Keegan…
I’d just love it, love it, if big Andy comes back.

Comment #216Funny how Steve Bruce is buying all the players we were linked with under Rafa. They must have the same taste in players.

Plus the money spent on almiron in January, so he has loosened the purse strings, not in spite of rafa but probably more in line with the threat of boycott and sale of season tickets being down

Comment #221Maybe Ashley has realised that he’s got such bad publicity from his ailing and failing retail ventures and bad press for Sporing Goods Coming Along Shortly that investing in NUFC and playing coy with Sky will get him some redeeming TV coverage. 7 out of the first 10 games on Sky feature NUFC suggest he might be right.
Expect some ‘GAME’ advertising at the ground – successful business, expanding and he owns nearly 20% and wants more of the action.

My personal impression of your take on Rafa is that you neglect/gloss over his strong points and focus mainly on his faults. It’s only balanced because in your view everyone is too kind to Rafa.
If you want to rank managers and say that Keegan and SBR were 10 out of 10 and John Carver was a 1/10. I’d probably say that Rafa was an 8. Maybe a 9 for some and 7 for others but pretty damn good all said.
Thing is there’s a lot of good in an 8/10 manager. You on the other hand seem obsessed with the 2/10 he didn’t have and make it sound like you think he was poor.
And having to work for Ashley is something else to take into consideration all together. There’s no way Keegan could have played his famous style of attacking football with the squad we’ve had the past couple of seasons. Not and win games at any rate.
I think you enjoy throwing in the Rafa digs as often as you do just to wind people up. More like Wumster Mag 🙂

Comment #225I think he’s just spending money because there’s money there to be spent. Last season there was a small spend due to the 33m loan and 10-20m that went unspent. Charnley said 50m a year next two years so I expect it will be close to that.
Just a fan

Is Jabba down to payday loans yet?
You’ve said he is about to get nicked more times than you claim he has faked a sale.
Which Polis do you think will not arrest him next?
