Newcastle United Confirm Allan Saint-Maximin – Our New Number 10

Newcastle United have just confirmed the signing of Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice. He has signed a 6-year deal for a fee believed to be around £16.5m rising to £20m.

Here is what Steve Bruce has said about Allan who will wear the number 10 shirt:

“I’m delighted to bring Allan to St. James’ Park. He is a very talented young player with a big future ahead of him.

“He has all the attributes you would want in an attacking player, including lightning pace, so I’m sure he’ll excite everybody.

“He is a great addition to Newcastle United and the Premier League.”

Here is the club announcing the third first-team signing of the summer.

It’ll be interesting to see where he is used. Giving him the 10 suggest he’s earmarked for a starting place. Front 3 of him, muggy and joelinton, maybe?

I just hope he has a final pass/cross in him and not just a speed machine.

We certainly have more pace up front now.

2 decent signings in ONE day, i am hyperventilating, i am getting over excited seing this and thinking wouldnt it be great if we brought in 2 more first teamers.

Must think rational, this is Newcastle, it will most likely be nothing till deadline day then we will try and fail to get somebody in.

It certainly is. If they gel quickly, we might actually find the net a few times in the first few games. I’m not to concerned about our central defence. We could possibly do with another CM depending on who leaves. I’d like another RB to come in, because yedlin and Manquillo still have glaring weaknesses.

We actually have a ggood looking attack for the first time in a long time, Linton, Max and Almiron all have the potential to be great, funny to think we have gone from Perez 1.5 million, Rondon- Loan and Joselu 5 million, to an 80 million front 3.

Definitely a off your seat player, yet to see of he’s a back of the net type player.

3 talented players that have to adapt and improve drastically if we’re to stay up.

They dont have half the goals we lost between them in weaker leagues, this is a sparkly elastoplast over a gaping wound

I hope they all prove me wrong!

Buzzing with these signings, added some much needed pace to the team, we have the look of a really solid team, its just a shame we have bruce as manager but this looks really promising, Shelvey will have a whale of a time feeding these pacey players, and with Almiron and max we have players of actual skill, Longstaff is fitting into the team at the right time and we also have players like aarons and a few others coming back, one or two more signings and this surely has to be our best transfer window. should be extremely exciting seeing them all in action.

    Biles Son @ 35

Don’t know – people said Rafa could only ever play 4-2-3-1 and that didn’t prove the case.

Think our side has been well suited to a 3-5-2. We saw some of it last year. We versions of a 3-4-3 too.

Thing is that three of our best players have been CBs (Schar, Lascelles, Lejeune) need them on the pitch and that means a back 3.

Wasnt the same said about rondon last season, then he went and got his highest goal return for premier league he’s ever had

Think the big difference here is that all 3 will create for each other, my question is where does shelvey fit into this?

Surely quick pass and move would be better than pinging it?

Our forward pot consists of Joelinton, Muto, Gayle, Miggy, Maxim and maybe sorensen will kick a 1st team ball or two.

Ideally I’d like Gayle to be sold, and a target man type player brought in (for a change of tactics) It may end up being from the ‘always injured’ pool of freebies.

Joelinton and ASM are exciting signings but don’t lose sight of the fact that they’re replacing
Perez, who everyone should know I rated, and Rondon.
Whether we have strengthened as a team remains to be seen.

Willems is an astute signing, loan with option. Similar situation to schar, highly rated as a youngster, never quite showed that fully. Not youngsters anymore but not old, good age with good experience.

Realistically I think that is our spending done. Carroll is a must on a free now.

If we could get rid of the deadwood and maybe replace with some youngsters like the one from PSG it would be ok.

Not by me, Rondon was proven to get goals in this league.

None of this 3 have set their leagues on fire but people think they’re going to come to the prem and have their best season BY FAR and keep us up.

I understand optimism but do the math ffs, Thauvin Mitrovic blah blah blah.

We used to have a proud history now everyone wants to ignore the last 12

Nobody knows how Bruce will have us set out but I feel some think he’s a manager that likes to play open attacking football.
That is a bit of a reach.

Our strengths the past few seasons were that we were collectively a well drilled and organised side. Bruce has proven his whole career that he can’t be this sort of manager so he will rely on the likes of Lascelles, Ritchie and Hayden etc to ensure there is a committed spirit otherwise we’ll ship in goals and that tends to mean relegation.

Going forward, we got some players that can excite and it’s been a while, but if it doesn’t turn in to a cohesive unit then what’s the point.

To say it will be interesting to watch it all play out is an understatement.

Really pleased with the signings today both a little suspect but worth the risk. Jetros fitness could be an issue and is he the same player as he was because this lad was a good player who i would of snapped up in the past hopefully it turns out to be a good acquisition. Saint Max has all the goods to be a very exciting player and has the ability to become a top player the lad has pace to burn and adds to a mouthwatering frontline being fed from behind with the likes of Shelvey and Longstaff in toe.

I still have that feeling it could be a good year and i hope there is more to come through the door but normal feeling is we wont, but i will say Willems came out of no were for me so maybe there is a few more surprises to come

It’s great we’re breaking transfer records and signing players, but let’s not forget: we got rid of a manager with a vision, with a track record of success wherever he goes, wanted to build up our academy and facilities so we could be unearthing two Longstaff’s per season, wanted to build on his squad and compete to win things.

Yes let’s be optimistic, but three good signings doesn’t make up for the lack of organisation, vision, direction, leadership, communication, strategy, ambition we’ve had to endure these last 12 years.

I still don’t get this clamour for players like Carroll who will take a squad place and likely make 5-10 appearances in a season. That’s no good.

Someone like llorente is on a free, similar type of player but without the injury issues is a better bet.

Luton v. Boro kicks off the season shortly. Woodgate reminiscing.

Jonathan Woodgate hopes to take some of the plus points from his former managers into his own career, and reminisced about his former boss Sir Bobby Robson when he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live earlier this week.

“He was someone who I had great respect for when he signed me from Leeds United,” said Woodgate. “Obviously I didn’t want to leave Leeds but he was one of the reasons why I left.

“He was a fantastic manager, man management, his enthusiasm on the training pitch, taking sessions as a 70-year-old, running around there, enthusiastic with his players, loving his players, how he spoke to you after a game, how he spoke to you before, he made you feel like the best player.

“If you weren’t playing so well he’d tell you, but you’d walk out his office again thinking you were good. He had that special man management inside him.”
