Bruce To Keep Player He’s Pursued In The Past

Steve Bruce has come out today and said that Newcastle will look to keep Dwight Gayle this season. So it looks like we may not be adding another striker as has been speculated.

This is what Mark Douglas has tweeted concerning Dwight Gayle and his future with the club.

Steve also added that he thinks the squad has enough cover in the striker department.

The five forwards that Steve is talking about are Joelinton, Almiron, Muto, Saint-Maximin, and Gayle. These are the five players that will fight it out for the two striker positions that Bruce has used throughout this preseason.

The issue we see is that only Joelinton provides a physical presence out of these five. If he goes down, that could leave a massive whole in the squad. We would prefer that Bruce look to move Gayle on and bring in another out and out striker who has a little more presence about them.

We would also like to see him bring in Andy Carroll as a free agent once he is deemed fit. Andy could provide that physical presence especially if brought on late in games.

While Gayle is a natural finisher, he has never really shown that he can do it in the Premier League. Though to be fair he has never had a long run of games to prove that the can. If the club are not going to bring in another forward then we suppose it is sensible to keep Dwight at Newcastle.

Bruce does maintain that the club is still active in the transfer market with things still “bubbling”. He also stated that there is a new deal for Isaac Hayden in the works, which is excellent news.

Can anyone enlighten me as to where these tales of Andy Carroll came from?

I’d have to agree this is the best we’ve looked for players since the Pardew 5th place side. And better than them at the back.

They simply come from the fact that Andy is a Geordie without a contract Mr. Tuff. That’s it. I can’t see Ashley putting any money into him at his age and with his injury record.

I think MIggy will be very important to open the game up against Arsenal. Otherwise they’ll camp in wor end and make themselves a nuisance.

    GeordieTwo,
My biggest worry is that we have had to get a low quality manager in to oversee them, they haven’t by choice selected such a low grade ”head coach” but have had to accept the best of a bunch that would put up with their ridiculous policies. It has Steve McLaren written all over it. The only advantage being SB is taking over a well drilled side with a majority who wanted to be here as opposed to the shambles SMc inherited.

All these remincinces about bands and clubs – wonderful.

I saw Hendrix in the lounge at the A Gogo. Also Claptons first visit and then his replacement Peter Green. So fortunate to see such great guitar players up close. Others like Zoot Money, Graham Bond, John Mayall, Gino Washington, Steam Packet, The Animals, Brian Auger and of course Julie Driscoll the first women I had seen without a bra. And so many more including The Stones in the Whitley A Gogo. A golden era.

If Bruce is smart he will just leave the defence and midfield the way they were and focus all his energy on getting goals. Our super drilled defence won’t fall to pieces unless its tampered with. This would be a good team to inherit, especially for a Martinez style manager who hasn’t got a clue about defence, but can get goals. Just on players alone we must be rated 10-12th best. I think we will come 15-17th unless there’s a manager change.

    GeordieTwo,

The most unusual acts I saw that I can remember were the Humblebums that included Billy Connolly and Gerry Rafferty during a very drunken night in Berwick. Also saw Screaming Jay Hawkins arrive on stage in a coffin.

Yes I was very fortunate as I also went to all the big concerts (Windsor and Isle of Wight) but my fondest memories were at the Bridge Folk Club to listen and singalong with the High Level Ranters and Geordie greats as Bob Davenport and Louis Killen.
