Steve Bruce – Jetro Will Start And Allan Will Be On The Bench For St-Etienne

Newcastle United have just tweeted some comments from Steve Bruce about yesterday’s two signings Jetro Willems and Allan Saint-Maximin.

It looks like Jetro will start in place of Matt Ritchie on the left and Allan will play some part coming off the bench. So it looks like we might get a bit of a look at the new signings. It will also be interesting to see where Allan Saint-Maximin plays if and when he does come on.

I currently have our 25 man squad as this. No lazaar or colback. Youngsters like Matty Longstaff need not be named in 25 man squad.

    GOALKEEPER
    Martin Dubravka
    Karl Darlow
    Rob Elliot

    WING BACK
    DeAndre Yedlin
    Javier Manquillo
    Jetro Willems
    Matt Ritchie

    CENTRE BACK
    Jamaal Lascelles
    Fabian Schar
    Florian Lejeune
    Paul Dummett
    Federico Fernandez
    Ciaran Clark

    CENTRE MIDFIELD
    Ki Sung Yueng
    Sean Longstaff
    Isaac Hayden
    Jonjo Shelvey

    WINGER/ATTACKING MIDFIELDER
    Allan Saint-Maximin
    Miguel Almiron
    Christian Atsu
    Jacob Murphy
    Rolando Aarons

    STRIKER
    Joelinton
    Dwight Gayle
    Yoshinori Muto

    Bills

4year deals are more sensible than 3 or 6 year deals.

6 years is a long time to have a player you don’t want in your squad if it turns bad.

    Hi Munster,

Yes after Rafa left, Ashley stayed, Bruce was made manager and with my old man passing on, I decided to take a break from all things NUFC, social media, on here, everything. Then we sign Joelinton, still I resist, then we sign ASM and Willems. I think I lasted 3 weeks!!

Really hurts seeing Arteta was our top target as coach. With these signings and Arteta I could almost have forgiven Ashley! Sadly we now have a Z list yes man with an appalling win ratio, very few goals scored and a dinosaur long ball style a la Allardyce.

If only Ash could get the right top coach with the kind of investment we’re seeing now instead of very, very occasionally throwing it behind McLaren and Bruce.

It remains to be seen how successful our transfers in are going to be. I think it will be much the same as in the days we were buying all the French players before, middling. There are benefits to long term contracts but if a player doesn’t work out or reckons he can coast through his contract on the sick then the inevitably there are some that will, as we’ve found before.

I don’t get all the gushing and marveling about our transfer window though, there’s undoubtedly some good buys in there but at £20m net spend Ashley still hasn’t released anywhere near that £50m talked about when Rafa was still here. That’s from last year’s budget aswell. And we might even sell someone else yet so yeah maybe there’s another incoming but that figure could well be level by the time the window closes.

Another ominous similarity to the pre – Rafa time is that Steve Bruce refers to himself as “Head Coach” and not “Manager” . So the model of “we buy them, you shove them in, and keep us from being relegated” seems to be re-established. This is McCarvew again. Ashley’s comfort zone.

I agree I’d rather have arteta as manager or even Vieira but are pepe forgetting that rafa had a call with them and told them to stay away.

We’ve got someone no one wanted and that’s down to Ashley’s mismanagement over the years and rafa for putting off young guys from taking the gig

Erm….there’s no investment now – if you look at the playing staff contract terms this is merely maintenance budgeting, they are hardly splashing out in a bid for Europe or cups. They certainly look like worthwhile purchases but if you think they are being bought to make this squad anything more than adequately serviceable you are being overly optimistic. A couple of key injuries and we still look thin.

Yea transfers in look good on paper but really we’ve just replaced Perez and Rondon and finally got a LB that we’ve all said we’ve needed for as long as I can remember! I think we need a replacement for Diame but would be happy to see matty longstaff brought into the first team, I would perhaps keep Saivet, he looks like there might actually be a half decent footballer in there, higher quality than ginger jack at least

I will bet you anything that the £93.5m budget we had after player sales will include agents fees and entire cost of wages over the contract. So we’re done spending.

What other club does this? Aren’t contracts supposed to go into operationally yearly costs? Or at least a different budget? It still stinks

Not a bad squad is it? We badly need another proven goal scorer though otherwise we could struggle for goals. I would love it if Gayle had a good season but it’s unlikely in this league!

I think Schar could come in to midfield if we’re short!
