Report – Midfielder Target To Make Newcastle Decision On Tuesday

Le 10 Sport is reporting that Thiago Maia will make a decision between Genoa and Newcastle on Tuesday.

This tweet translates to:

Thiago Maia has to make a decision tomorrow (Tuesday). Transfer Offer from Genoa (7M € + 50% resale) or Newcastle loan offer (with higher salary than Genoa)

The link to Maia resurfaced Sunday night with reports from France that Newcastle had renewed their interest in the Brazilian. It was reported earlier today that Newcastle had made a better offer for the defensive midfielder.

However, that offer appears to be in salary and not in a transfer fee. The French outlet is reporting that Maia will have to decide between joining Genoa on a permanent or Newcastle on loan. With Newcastle, he would reportedly get higher wages.

We are not sure if their will be an option to buy in the deal but if we could get Maia in this week that would be excellent news. Like Jetro Willems, a loan deal with an option to buy might not be a bad idea. Both players saw a massive dip in form last season so maybe Newcastle are just taking precautions by only offering a loan deal initially.

I’d take a punt on this lad. Remains to be seen how he’ll do in our league, but the same can be said of all of our recent signings. They’ll have to hit the ground running.

Hopefully having Joelinton here (a fellow young Brazilian) might tempt him to move?

Genoa have a Brazilian keeper but I can see Maia bonding with Joelinton more, being closer in age and also new to the club.

Jean-Philippe Mateta underwent an operation on his right knee yesterday and will likely be out for at least three months.

Totally agree. If the money is spent elsewhere it’s a far more suitable option but I’m like you i doubt it will be spent at all. Transfer window ends soon and we will then know we’re we are at. I’m still hoping we will get surprised before the window shuts but same old feeling of couldn’t get them over the line bladablada time will tell

I like the sound of this guy Maia. If he’s a kind of hybrid of Diame, Shelvey and Ki, as in a defensive mid who essentially breaks up play, but who passes and moves well too, then he’d be ideal as the pivot in a mid 3 and compliment the 4 good central mids we already have. We do need one more, if we are going to play 3, as we have pre season.

Krafth I’m less happy about. Unless Bruce and Nickson know something no one apparently else does, then he doesn’t appear to be an upgrade on what we have. I like Manquillo. I think he’s a player who can become a reliable cog in a well oiled, high functioning side. Yedlin is weaker defensively, and not as good on the ball, but super fast, so as wing backs you’d think we’d need to be looking at someone better than Krafth to be upgrading, unless Yedlin is off. Think this stuff about about Manquillo out on loan is nonsense. He’s been great this pre season, and was excellent when given the shirt in the second part of last season.

I’m still hopeful Gayle can be moved on, generating money for a better replacement. Gayle is better than Joselu, but we have enough players of his type in the group already. We need another Joselu type, but obviously of a better calibre, who can come in and be a target, hold the ball up, clatter centre backs etc, get his head on the ball, because all we have now to do that is the unproven Joelinton. He needs competition, and the squad needs more appropriate cover.

Afriyie is a defensive midfielder from Empoli. We were linked with him last year. Think he’s 27 or something. He reported the interest from us last year.

Already the ‘couldn’t get him over the line’ line is done with, during this window. It’s been a very good one, transfer record shattered, two three good players in, only one senior (whom most didn’t rate till he left anyway) gone.

We’re better than last year. We’ll see how that translates on the field. Surely we’ll pick up at least three points in our first ten games 🙂

Whoa, I’ve never suggested anything about you arguing against a boycott. My point was pitched at those who can’t or won’t see what Ashley’s done to NUFC – openly supporting his methods and appointments. Does that include you? I think not.

I take your point about Ashley being thick skinned but the point about boycotting the Arsenal game is it’s a symbollic gesture to draw attention to Ashley’s treatment of the club and its fans.

Rafa didn’t sign a new contract because he knew that he couldn’t work for the slug anymore and i don’t blame him.
Old cabbage heed is worse than useless imo, can’t stand him.
Am i willing to give him a chance? At the moment I’m not sure.
I think we may well struggle big time this season.
    Ashley- no ambition
Old cabbage heed – no clue.

I would love another forward more than anything mate, Unless Bruce is planning on using a loan striker all season.
Take Joelinton out of the equation and we are relying on some bang average forwards we have at the club.

Sign him up (€12m), then go for Benjamin Henrichs (€20m) which is what Monaco want for him, Charlie Austin (£8m-£10m). We’d then have a very good squad to compete in the league, sign Moussa Sissako aswell as he looks a decent centre half at 19 years old.

Ashley still needs to sanction more spending. We get a decent an upgrade on the departed Diame and Joselu, then he’ll have given Bruce the tools the manager a club our size deserves. You’d have to say fair play to him then, you’ve done right. But of course, unless you’re extremely forgetful or unaware, you’d realize even then that it’s too late now to save this owners skin with too large a section of the fan base. His card is well and truly marked. Too few believe that Ashley has it in him to run the club right, me amongst them. Must go, and let someone else who has a proper interest in the wellbeing of the club try to take it forward.

So people who haven’t renewed are still receiving season tickets they haven’t paid for…

How many of those have the club counted as sold???

Anyone posted the Nust vote on the boycott?

    Ho ho ho.

There’ll be more at the boycott than some would have you believe.

    Darlow
    Colback
    Saivet
    Aaron’s
    Murphy (maybe)
    Sterry
    Lazaar

Get them out and make more space in the team

If this mystery sign turns out to be Sabaly and we’ve paid any more than £5m I’ll be scratching my head. He’s a poor player, cannot hit a ball clean, not fast, not strong, not particularly a fighter, positioning and reading of the game nothing above average – that’s him in a nutshell, bang average.

I can see RWB/RB is a position we could upgrade, but nobody we’ve been linked with is a definitive upgrade on Manquillo and Yedlin.
