Report – Newcastle Still Maintain An Interest In Lille’s Thiago Maia

Get French Football News is reporting that there have been discussions of Newcastle buying Lille midfielder Thiago Maia. Newcastle have had an interest in the Brazilian since last summer when they tried but failed to secure a loan deal.

Last summer Maia’s transfer fee was in the €20-30m, however after a poor year in France for Lille, the French club’s asking price for the 23-year-old has plummeted.

However, there is a strange report in Le 10 Sport that Genoa have bid €7m to purchase 50% of the player. This is an unusual deal which we are not sure that the outlet is getting right. However, the Italian club does appear to be very interested in Maia.

In June, there was speculation that Brazilian club Flamengo were close to sealing a shock €8.5m deal for Maia but nothing has resulted from those reports.

With Newcastle still uncertain of the future of Isaac Hayden and having lost Mohamed Diame this summer, they may be maintaining an interest in Maia as a precaution for a Hayden move. We could use another central midfielder, though, as the team appears to be playing with three in the middle going forward.

    Mag52,
I hope you aren’t going to get sentimental about Brewcey if he starts dedicating wins to Mikey and blaming the crowd for us conceding late.

Unfortunately for the long suffering fans the St James hierarchy thought it wise to sicken one of World footballs great club managers by not providing him with the tools to improve the team and the club.Instead what we have now is a third rate yes man dinosaur with the 2nd worst record in premier league history at the helm.We allow our proven strikers to leave the club and replace them with untested kids from lesser leagues in the hope that they can hack it and their value will rocket for a tidy profit. We still need strengthening in attack, midfield and RB,let’s see if the parasite will spend the rest of the budget because there’s plenty left in the pot.

    Jib,

Not sure if you have been corrected already, but a Hart is actually a MALE deer. It’s just an older word for a stag. Apparently more usually used to describe a red deer stag (I looked that last bit up)

    Betty
    Not really
The sensible thing to do would be to bat the day out
and start the 2nd test at Lords all-level.

If they do that it will be like watching paint dry.

I think the batsmen need to simply avoid the crazy attacking shots. Hit the bad balls for runs, block out the good ones as best you can. If the runs come, then great, we have a chance. If not then we shouldn’t chase it. A draw is better than losing.

I only knew it because I read “The Hobbit” a few times as a kid. The dwarves shoot at a big Hart in Mirkwood, but it leaps a stream and gets away, and it is referred to as a ‘he’.

So our two top scorers from last season say there is a lack of ambition and the club is mismanaged. Jonjo Shelvey who has a history of indiscipline and couldn’t get a game under our former manager says the new gaffer likes a laugh and a joke. Oh footin dear, what could possibly go wrong.
