The Chronicle have a report out with some encouraging comments from our Slovakian goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
He clears up some of the speculation surrounding his links to PSG which is very good news indeed. Martin has been linked to PSG as a replacement for Kevin Trapp should he join Frankfurt this summer.
He made some comments after Saturday’s final pre-season friendly suggesting that he was excited about the upcoming season.
These additional statements will also help to alleviate some concerns of losing our goalkeeper over the next few days. This is what he has said about the reports of him going to PSG over the past few weeks.
“Social media is a dangerous thing.
“I’ve seen some pictures on there that suggested I was in Paris Airport.
“It’s just not true. If you look at the pictures and the signs in the background it is in Slovakia – where I am from.
“It makes me laugh. Look I’ve got a contract here and I’m happy here.
“I was not even thinking about leaving Newcastle. I’m ready to start the new season here.
“What will happen after that is not up to me, I am just trying to be ready on the pitch.”
We are very happy that both Martin and Fabian Schar have recently spoken about their commitment to Newcastle. Both are really big players for this season and we were very concerned that at least one if not both would be sold this summer.
A lot of the speculation regarding Dubravka stemmed from him not featuring in a few of the preseason friendlies. Steve Bruce did try to assuage any concerns by declaring that he was just rotating keepers and there was nothing sinister in Martin’s absence.
Dubravka affirms what Bruce had said in the following statement.
“It was the plan to see the other goalkeepers, to see what was going to happen if I would not be able to play.
“Hopefully, I will be in the starting line-up against Arsenal.
“I was not even thinking about it. They explained to me what was the way and how to play, and they wanted to see the other goalkeepers.
“I accepted that. I was training pretty hard. I was trying to do the best.
“I want to be on the pitch. They get a chance to show themselves, and I was trying to show myself.”
We hope that nothing arises over the next few days linking any of our first-team players to other clubs. This has been a good transfer window so far and we still hope for a couple more signings.
Most importantly we need to keep this squad intact as it has the makings of a decent and very exciting side.

Comment #2That’s in the league btw, highest attacker for tackling, interceptions and recoveries. More than the likes of mane, richarlison etc.
When that time article came out on Perez, he was currently outside the top 6 teams was top 5 players of creating chances. Before he went on a scoring run.
Interesting comparison stats wise is with zaha actually. Perez got more goals and had a better dribble success. Zaha got couple more assists, won more penalties but got dispossessed a whole load more than Perez. Worse pass percentage than Perez too despite more of his passes being sideways or backwards. Defensively and team play wise, Perez absolute wipes the floor with him.
But yeah, keep going on about how he ‘played for a move’.

I never said he was playing for a move, I said he played well for half a season then moved.
Perez looked like he had real potential his first season but after that I thought that apart from the odd moment of class he was pretty dire.
Can’t deny his effort but you need more than that at the top level.
This last half a season he has got better and better and where he would normally try and take players on and lose the ball every time he was keeping possession.
You can’t really say that everyone can have an opinion but anyone that disagrees with you is clueless.
Perez splits opinion among fans like no other player in recent history.
Some really rate him, and other like myself think he was rather poor until midway through last season.

It’s different having an opinion on a player than it is saying things like he played for a move.
You may not have said he was playing for a move but my post wasn’t directed at you specifically. I just keep seeing that same comment past couple weeks. So more generalised comment.

Comment #7If Andy Caroll is a free agent then presumably he doesn’t need to be signed during the transfer window, he can be recruited at anytime ?
Daresay if he has as rumoured bought somewhere to retire to in the shires and can stay fit with training he could be persuaded to make a guest appearance now and again if injuries or circumstances in the squad dictate that possibility.
Effectively a zero hours deal where if he turns up and puts a shift in he might get paid.

Comment #8You may go to matches to only support the team but you’re also supporting Ashleys way of running the club
Your attendance says you’re happy with the situation to continue.
You cant go to the ground buy a ticket a beer and a programme without putting money in his pocket.

No. You don’t sell your best players by choice and he was one of our best players. And you can look back or search any posts on google. I’ve been a long defender of Perez. Always pointed out when he created a chance or two that never got put away but too many on here are fickle and if they don’t see a goal or assist then usually it means they’ve played poorly and that’s not the case.

I can agree with you on some points there but he was more frustrating than he was brilliant in my eyes. I think we made his mind up for him with the boo boys and it showed with the daft fingers in the ears celebration.
Like I said next year will show a lot about Perez is he as good as I can imagine to be we’re we as a club holding him back? This season will show exactly the player he is.

West Brom are ‘pushing hard’ to complete a loan deal with an option to buy for Dwight Gayle, according to the Telegraph – but they’ll face stiff competition from both Leeds and Stoke.
Steve Bruce made it clear that Gayle was in his plans in an interview over the weekend, however the Telegraph’s Jason Burt claims today that the striker was left ‘upset’ by being stripped of the no.9 shirt following Joelinton’s arrival.
The piece states that Gayle would be happy to return to the Hawthorns after enjoying his spell their last season, but suggests it’s not yet clear if they could afford to pay his wage demands.

Oh I am not saying he wasn’t frustrating lol. I just never could criticise him because all you ask for is effort and he did that in unfamiliar positions without kicking up a fuss. Hardest position imo on a football pitch is the number 10 role , especially in a defensive team, and he was filling in there when he was clearly learning the position.
I had no issue with his celebration and had it as my gravatar. If some fans want to get on the backs of players and booing him at times then expect a bit back. He could have shied away but he didn’t. Some plays joined him in doing so in some celebrations , yedlin and rondon for example.
I think he’ll do well at Leicester but how mitrovic caused a lot of debate when with us, I don’t add or comment to them now they have left. So if he does great or does badly, not something I will be talking about.

Sorry, I realized that might be construed as an Ashes reference. I really didn’t mean it to be. I don’t follow the cricket. Or AFL. Or rugby. I follow the toon so closely, and it causes me so much grief, that I don’t have room for other sport.

Comment #28I think it is too easy and simplistic to say going to games and spending money is putting money in Ashley’s pocket, boycotts will have a far greater effect on local people and the local economy than it ever will on Ashley.
For example if catering sales are lower, the costs to deliver the service will be reduced by cutting staff and cutting purchases to keep profit margins in line, so the local person working at the ground loses income and any supplier that supplies the stadium loses income and they in turn cut staff hours to protect their profit.
