Matt Ritchie Doesn’t Do Neutral On Or Off The Pitch

Yesterday was media day at Newcastle and some players have given interviews with various press outlets. One player has caused a bit of a stir with some comments he has made.

Matt Ritchie has spoken with TalkSPORT in which he has referenced the unrest at Newcastle heading into the game against Arsenal this Sunday.

Here is a bit of what Ritchie has said.

This interview may see Ritchie get a bit of backlash from some fans. Especially the part where he mentions the honesty of the owner or why he doesn’t understand the current unrest.

However, Matt Ritchie is very passionate in all that he does. He obviously does not mince his words. He is a player that thrives on passion and gives everything on the pitch.

Matt Ritchie– passion for the club

It makes some sense that he is issuing a rallying cry before the season. The atmosphere around the club has been toxic this summer and some of that will have seeped through to the dressing room.

The mantra from the club since Steve Bruce has joined has been to move forward. What Ritchie says is no different, it is just said in a bit more of an outspoken way.

The players seem to have taken to Steve Bruce and his two assistants Steve Agnew and Steve Clemence. They seem to have settled under Bruce and from all accounts are very happy with his appointment.

Matt Ritchie also will also have a personal relationship with Mike Ashley. As Aleksandar Mitrovic alluded to last week, his personal interactions with Mike Ashley were generally positive.

We really don’t want any of the unrest to affect the players negatively as that could lead to poor performances. So if they don’t understand it, then maybe that isn’t too much of a problem. We want them to be completely focused on playing football.

While we disagree with some of what Matt Ritchie has said and feel that he maybe should have taken a more neutral position, we fully understand that Matt Ritchie doesn’t do neutral. He goes overdrive in everything he does.

By all accounts in face to face meetings , Ashley comes across as a decent guy and often plays the fall guy – this has been mentioned by analysts in the city regarding SD before.. however he can then go and do something like give his son in law a huge contract , mislead shareholders the day after meeting – basically his actions belie his words .

Don’t think Sky can withdraw service from bars and clubs that have paid to screen matches – the match us on sky sports live – it’s not an illegal stream ffs

The Magpie Group meet tonight at 7pm at the Irish Centre.

Come down, I’ll make myself known if anyone wants a chat.

There’ll be no aggression from anyone there, our only goal is to remove Ashley from Nufc in a legal and peaceful manner.

I call you when I need you, my heart’s on fire
You come to me, come to me wild and wired
Oh, you come to me, give me everything I need
Give me a life time of promises and a world of dreams
Speak the language of love like you know what it means
Mm, and it can’t be wrong, take my heart and make it strong, babe
You’re simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I ever met
I’m stuck on your heart, I hang on every word you say
Tear us apart, baby, I would rather be dead
In your heart I see the start of every night and every day
In your eyes I get lost, I get washed away
Just as long here in your arms I could be in no better place
You’re simply the best, better than all the rest
Better than anyone, anyone I ever met

Don’t understand the venom being shown towards Ritchie on SM. Could have used better words but he’ll be under strict instructions to not acknowledge or say anything that can be construed as being supportive of the protest movements. He’s an employee at the end of the day. Nothing personal to him, he just wants to play, do well and get paid. Venom and anger should be reserved for the owner, not the players.

Another prediction for us to go down from Seb Stafford-Bloor on Football365. He says the only qualification Bruce has for the NUFC job is his accent. I think that was meant to be a joke. But he obviously hasn’t really paid that much attention in that NUFC fans call Ashley’s mob the Cockney Mafia.

Isn’t Ritchie one of the generals who is being offered new improved terms. Bruce is wise getting the changing room loud mouths onside. You don’t need the fans support as much if you have the players support.

Mindshaft: I was talking about the proposal for a giant screen on the town moor. And Genjikai was referring to setting up the giant screens in public areas and how sky and Ashley could block it.

Don’t think Ritchie said anything that controversial – he’s an employee who wants to do the best he can , he knows he’ll never play for one of the top 6 – where he goes wrong is thinking we expect to compete with the top 6, we all know that’s well beyond us unless we get a mega rich investor – however, we should be able to compete with wolves / Leicester etc rather than a constant battle with relegation –

Disappointed with Ritchie’s comments in relation to A$$ Lie he cannot seriously be that naive and innocent ?

    It’s either :

    A) someone who lives in an innocent bubble and is oblivious to what is going on around him.
    B) He’s taken his 30 pieces of Silver.

Whatever else about him though I cannot fault his commitment every time he pulls on the Jersey so I’ll hope that it’s A.

Theres been no aggression towards anyone towards anyone at TMG meetings, that includes those who are still attending the match

It’s another assumption directed at TMG, theres people who’ve been to TMG meetings plan to protest outside ground and are going into the ground.

We’ll try to convince them not to go, only a moron would alienate the people they’re trying to convert and be aggressive towards them.

More lies from the anti boycott brigade to divide and conquer, funny how they’re a authority on something the know nothing about or have any involvement in.

I just don’t see what the pundits are saying. McNulty has us bottom. Do we have a worse squad than Brighton?

Must be Bruce and the boycott that is behind their reasoning. Bruce has kept teams in the PL before. I would rate him better than Pardew and Pards even kept us up.

Ritchie still one of my favourites. He wears the shirt with pride, plays with passion and is vocal on and off the pitch.

    Still like him.

If anything this is a sign of Bruce having the dressing room on his side and the players being sick of negative attention wanting to focus on football.

Matt Ritchie has obviously fallen for the parasites crap. I think that if he spoke to fans, perhaps if he attended this evenings meeting he might get a better perspective on what is going on at the club he is getting paid by. Or talk to workers at Shirebrook. Matt Ritchie is in a privileged position as he is at the top of his profession. He needs to get out of his bubble like many Premiere League footballers.

TBH , I think it’s a bit of arm twisting by the club, given the chance, I don’t think Ritchie would have come out with a statement like that, he knows anything pro Ashley is likely.is likely to wind up the fans.

There’s no doubt that Ritchie’s been given the Bishop inspired ‘neutral’ line but it’s implicitly supportive of Ashley and his methods. That Bishop should have told Ritchie play the innocent abroad, not understanding the unrest shows that they have set Ritchie up be the focus of criticism from fans. They have exposed Ritchie to being targeted and that in itself is both divisive and inflammatory. That’s disgraceful and not of Richie’s making.

Fans should recognise that Ritchie’s been used by Bishop and placed in an impossible, invidious position and support him – stay off his back.
