Keith Downie of Sky Sports has reported that Rolando Aarons will not be part of Newcastle’s 25 man squad when it is announced after the window closes.
Sheffield Wednesday & Wigan are both trying to sign Newcastle’s Rolando Aarons. The winger is surplus to requirements in Steve Bruce’s 25-man squad #NUFC
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 7, 2019
This comes as a bit of a surprise as Rolando had featured quite a bit in the pre-season for Newcastle. It seemed to us that he had done enough to be included, even though it would have been only as cover.
So it looks like both Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday are vying to get Aarons on loan over the next 22 hours. The Sheffield Wednesday link is very interesting as it was said that the Owls wanted Aarons on loan as part of the compensation package for Steve Bruce.
It does look like Steve Bruce has spoken to the players who are not going to be part of the squad. Yesterday it was reported that six players would be moved out prior to Thursday and that was not including Aarons.
Those players were goalkeeper Rob Elliot, left-back Achraf Lazaar, right-back Jamie Sterry, midfielders Henri Saivet and Jack Colback, as well as winger Jacob Murphy. Jacob Murphy has four Championship clubs after him in Derby, Fulham, Huddersfield, as well as Sheffield Wednesday.
It looks like there is going to be a lot of movement out and it appears as though Steve Bruce has done a decent job in identifying the right players who are not good enough. However, we are disappointed that Rolando Aarons has not done enough to earn a spot. But it may open up a place in the squad for an additional transfer by tomorrow.

Comment #6Munster, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
I have no problem with Steve Bruce; I hope that he turns out to be a great manager for us.
Rafa, wasn’t perfect, and said himself that he had made mistakes, everyone does, but don’t criticise the man who stabilized the club and could have taken us onto better things given the opportunity.

Comment #13Promised by Fat Mike: £50m Kitty + £11m Profit rollover + player sales amounting to £34m
= £95m
Deals:
– Joelinton (£40m)

Where’s the other £32m at mike? Suppose there’s no reason to boycott Arsenal?

Comment #14Aaron’s great weakness is injury, and that rarely differs as careers go on, unfortunately. At first I thought he was dynamite!

Comment #15Bill i praised rafa a hell of a lot but some of the tools on this site wouldnt have it. Guys take polar positions and wont accept middle ground. Ashley was seen as the opposite if rafa, but that was always a pointless comparison

How is it that someone living in the south of Ireland supports the Toon?
Are you a Geordie, or where you a convert after seeing KKs team take the Premier League by storm?
I’m really interested, nothing else.

Comment #20Im sure mikes only bought and not sold so we look more appealing to a potential buyer, if we’re to believe we’re still up for sale.
We’re still in the black so the books look decent, all hopes of him leaving is not dead yet

Comment #22Abit of a strange one letting Aarons leave as he’s been very good in Pre-season, probably our best winger in the games he’s played in anyway. Can’t see it being Brucies decision anyway as he rated him highly last season on loan Atletico Sheff Wednesday. He’s much better than Murphy and more lively than Atsu so i’d Keep him. If we sell him then it could be another one that comes back to bite us in the future but who knows.
One half decent season in the prem and the big boys from Germany could come calling and line fat boys pockets even more.

Comment #35I think the best signing so far this summer is Jetro. I have always loved this lad, I think he will be player of the season. He’s versatile but I think he will heavily feature on the left hand side, tidy little footballer, great runner although admittedly I haven’t seen much of him since his injuries, good passion and solid both up and down. He has much to prove and he is motivated to earn his national team place back… This in my opinion is a winner for us.
As for mad Maximin, I’m really excited to see what this lad brings to the table… Potentially he has it all but he also has this french diva tag that usually follows the mercurial french men of times past in the PL… He has an arrogance but I hope and pray that Bruce can keep him tamed… He excites me a lot.
Finally Joelinton, not so sure worth all that outlay, paying for pure potential here and I don’t think we can afford a striker that needs nurtured… We need a ready number 9, and that outlay would have gotten us someone proven with vast experience that could hit the ground running, my main issue here is who has Bruce actually developed that has become world class and for 40m I’m expecting a world class player. Hope I’m wrong but I predict we see more of Gayle than would be expected as the season runs on.
Purely my opinions on the current signings… I think it will be hard to see how we will really do until after the first 10, the opening fixtures are terrible again, I hope there is enough talent but the test will be the recovery from the tough openers, without Rafa I worry about confidence when the seas get choppy, that was something Rafa done brilliantly, he kept everyone focused on the long game and was as cool as ice under pressure with a similar run last year… That was what kept us up in my opinion, this is a similar squad but can Bruce hold his shit together when the going gets tough?

Comment #36Bill, how many times did i say i wanted rafa here, long term, funded. How many times??? Bloody loads. Problem was (for the usual suspects) i broke ranks and started asking questions very early when i saw his approach to games. But he was still a perfect manager for us at this point. But he left for a shit chinese outfit that none of us have ever heard of. So now, either support the team and the shirt now or dont.
