Local journalists have been tweeting that Andy Carroll is in talks to rejoin his hometown club. The news is that Carroll is very eager to come back to Newcastle.
Carroll back, like rest of #nufc business, is a gamble but also appeals to me. V. good striker on his day but huge fitness issues of course.
For nothing, a motivated AC could be a great signing. Graham Carr pushed for it in virtually every window since he left. Now might happen

I'm told Andy Carroll to NUFC is more likely to happen than not & player desperate to rejoin hometown club.

#nufc are believed to be in discussions over move for Andy Carroll today. Not done yet. Checks on his fitness going on. But Carroll eager for it to happen.

This is a move that does not have to happen today as Andy is a free agent and can be signed past the transfer deadline. It will, however, be quite apparent as to whether this deal is likely when the 25 man squad is announced. If there is a spot left open then it could be for our former number 9.
We feel this move is really a no-brainer for both the club and Andy as long as a reasonable contract can be sorted out. Andy will have to take a significant cut in the wages he is used to.
He will also have to prove his fitness as he continues to recover from his latest ankle injury. Though he had recently been given clearance to start training, he will be quite a ways from reaching full fitness.
This would be an excellent move by the club. We are short in the striker department and Andy would be able to offer a physical option that the squad lacks currently.
Update at 2:19 PM – Apparently Newcastle cannot leave a squad spot available if they have enough players under contract to fill a 25-man squad.
This is why Newcastle would need to sign Andy Carroll today – even though he's a free agent. #nufc https://t.co/iLs1s70Yrw

Comment #4I would be happy with a fit Andy Carroll as part of our squad, but the fact is you know he will be out with a long term injury, it has happened to him every season in his career, not long before we sold him to Liverpool he was out with an injury, the fans were over the moon when he left West Ham as he was a permanent fixture in their treatment room

Comment #5Andy Carroll issue isn’t about wages.for me. He will take up an important squad place and going on previous seasons, will only be available for about 10 games.

Yeah exactly.ive always been against him resigning.
If he wasn’t a local lad don’t think there would even be a debate if I’m honest.

Comment #13I think it’s a complete no brainer. Hes exactly what we need coming off the bench, big, strong, tall, and can score headers for fun. An easy target to cross the ball.
Stick him on a pay as you play contract for extra security. But honestly hes still worth a gamble even on a full contract because we know he can score, its fitness and injuries that are his problem, but if hes not starting every match injuries and fitness shouldn’t be a huge problem.

Comment #14ITK. Don’t post often at all as I’m scared of you all:)
Andy Carroll said goodbye to everyone this morning at Rush Green. He’s gone!!! Coming to the Toon? Hope so, as a back up to Joelinton/Plan B. On a sensible deal that’s related to his playing time… hopefully!!!

Comment #17Why is everyone so worried about squad places? Do people not know how easy it is to transfer them to the reserve or under 23 squads. Am I missing something here????

Comment #19Nicky the balltosser “Gayle doesn’t have any other real strengths”
NUFC 3 Souton 0 2017/18. When Perez broke from the edge of our 18 yd box to hit Souton on the break, when Kenedy scored his second goal, Gayle was defending in our 6 yd box, Gayle sprinted nearly full length of the pitch to receive the pass from Perez , Gayle was in a good position for a shot himself but he unselfishly chose to play in Kenedy for a top in. If I can see things like that and you can’t, then maybe that’s your trouble, you don’t bother looking. when Gayle was closing the opposition down he would bust a gut to give the guy in possession the hurry up and try to force the mistake unlike Perez who would just prance about like a prize stallion.
If Gayle stays and plays a part, then I would back him to score more than Mutu and now that VAR is active I would back Gayle to win us penalties.
