The Summer 2019 transfer window has finally come to an exciting conclusion. On deadline day, Newcastle announced two additions in right-back Emil Krafth from SC Amiens and also hometown lad Andy Carroll has returned home.
This brings the total to 5 senior signings with a net spend of around £25m. Krafth and Carroll follow record signing Joelinton, French forward Allan Saint-Maximin, and Dutch left-back Jetro Willems, who joins on loan from Frankfurt.
Gone in this window were Ayoze Perez to Leicester City and Joselu to Alaves. There were also a few players on loan last season that have left in Salomon Rondon, Kenedy, and Antonio Barreca.
Whether the squad fares better this season is yet to be seen. However, the club did do some very good business this summer. It was not a perfect window by any means.
It remains to be seen if any of the non-Premier League signings can adapt to the English game and also whether Andy Carroll can remain fit enough to make any sort of impact. There is no doubt the new signings come with a bit of a question mark.
However, the big success of this window is the retention of a core group of players that six weeks ago most would have thought would have been plundered by now.
We see Martin Dubravka, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie, and Miguel Almiron still with the club. This cohesion should help the squad immensely this season.
We also have yet to see what a full season of Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron will bring.
Andy Carroll– back in the black and white stripes
Overall, this has been a successful window. There will be a lot of people who will be asking why the other £30m wasn’t spent. That is a very fair question. If the club should have ever exhausted its transfer budget, it was this window. Another quality signing would have made this window a resounding success.
As it stands, it is imperfect but filled with potential. It will be up to Steve Bruce and the lads to make it a success. We have faith that they can do just that.
This window also ended in an emotional reunion for Andy Carroll and all of the fans who wanted him to return. While it may not have a fairytale ending, it has the potential too. And that makes this window just that little bit more special.

I know he left for reasons beyond transfer budget but he still knew he would have money to spend this window. He’s left and for the better in my opinion cos he he stayed it would be harder to get fans to unite to get ashley out.
Good memories but let’s concentrate on getting the main problem out of the club now.
Having said all that it’s hard to argue that its not been a good window for us

£25.0M
So thats 30 million over the last 12 years
We still have a net spend less that 3 million over the last 13 years
We havent spent what we got from the shirt sponsors on players yet

Comment #11The main issue to me seems that some are more keen for this boycott to go ahead, personally I hope we do still boycott in numbers that show the world how we feel, but i also dont fear of those dont follow in my footsteps and boycott.
The problem for the staunch rafa followers and boycott pushers is it’s been a good window and no doubt some may have 2nd thoughts and go back, good luck to anyone who does as it’s your choice. The issue is some seem very bitter at this being a good window and they fear the boycott is dead, hence the drumming home of PR exercise etc etc.
Honestly man grow up, call things as they are. Bottom line is we all support the club and these divisions or attempts to divide only further us from being united and ultimately play right into Ashley’s hands of dividing.
I cant stand the bloke, I’m not happy about Bruce being manager but I’m man enough to say this is a good window, I’d have snapped your hand off in may if I was told this would be our squad!!

Carroll could make a miracle recovery as he now has a real purpose in life to prove to himself and others that he isn’t washed up at the age of 30.

Comment #17You could be right oldarse. He had an ankle operation in April I think? So that’s about 4 months of recovery time. If he’s not on the bench against Norwich or Spurs we’ll know he isn’t fit yet.

Overall I’d give it a 4/10. That’s including Bruce.

Comment #24An expensive PR push to quieten dissent would be some big money signings from an ambitious budget with a top notch striker to fill the no9 shirt.
A Mike Ashley PR push is an economy model. A never-mind-I-was-once-an-honorary-mackem-Im-now-a-real-Geordie coach / kit washer, a past-sell-by real Geordie striker on a nowt, and some rather middling unproven players for a tiny net spend (if you’re being more ambitious than winner of the bottom half mini league).
As I said before this is our big attraction for the new season? Boycott I say! Pull the plug on nowtv! Strike!!!!

Comment #26Mind I have always liked Carroll. Yes he made some coin but in the career stakes leaving us wasn’t a god move. I came in five minutes late (Jordan was having a book signing at the metro grrrrr) to the Doncaster game, silent up to half time we are a goal down. Up steps Andy to volley home a cracker. Happy days.

Comment #27I’m going to give the window a 1/10 for transparency (just a little pun there for my followers, errm whoever that might be) and 9/10 for sheer zaniness. Is Joe going go make the big jump to the Prem? If not who the heck is going to score the goals we need? Andy on crutches?

Comment #30That net spend is transfer fees alone. Agent fees and sign on fees will make the “net spend” higher. Having said that, there should a significant amount of money to sign players in january.

Comment #32We’re all getting excited about Andy Carroll coming back?
I wonder whether Bruce would’ve gone for Andy as his preferred choice – even if he knew the money was there to buy a different striker?
Could big Andy have been a case of ‘You want a striker? Carroll’s a striker – take him or forget it’. That seems to fit in with Ashley’s modus operandi where Bruce’s got the last word on transfers – take him or forget it!

Comment #37I have a feeling Goals wont be a huge problem this season. I also have a feeling we will start the season pretty strongly, although I’m worried about the Arsenal match, they are beating the best teams around left right and centre. It is only preseason but Arsenal still worry me. Conversely I’m also weirdly optimistic we could also beat them. One minute I think they are gonna hammer us the next I’m thinking stupid things like we could beat them.
I genuinely feel it’s just as likely we could finish top 10 as get relegated. Know one knows tbf but one thing I do know is Shelvey wont be player of the season.
