Where Have Some Of Our Reported Targets Ended Up On Deadline Day?

Newcastle have been linked with scores of players this summer. Many already made their moves prior to deadline day and others stayed with their clubs. Here are a few of the players that have made moves on deadline day that were linked with Newcastle this summer, even if some of the links were tenuous at best.

James McCarthy was linked with a £5m move to Newcastle last month along with teammate Yannick Bolasie who reportedly had a £10m release fee. Bolasie ended up turning down a move to CSKA Moscow.

However, James McCarthy has joined Crystal Palace from Everton in an £3m deal.

Ismaila Sarr was linked to Newcastle early this summer and there were even reports that Newcastle had a bid rejected for him. However, it always seemed like Watford were in lead for the Senegalese winger.

Sarr has joined Watford from Rennes in a deal that could rise to €36m. It has been reported the fee is €30m with an additional €6m if Watford avoid relegation.

Djibril Sidibe was a shock target a few weeks ago when it was reported that Newcastle were in discussions for the French right-back from Monaco. Nothing ever came from those initial reports.

Sidibe has joined Everton on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The permanent deal is believed to be around £12m.

Charlie Austin was again linked with a move this summer to Newcastle United. The 30-year-old striker was also heavily linked in the summer of 2015.

He has signed for West Brom in the Championship for around £4m on a two-year deal.

Aaron Mooy was linked to Newcastle throughout the second half of this past Premier League season. He was also linked in May as being a possible replacement for Mo Diame or Isaac Hayden, who it was thought was leaving at the time.

Mooy has joined Brighton on a season-long loan deal.

Sarr is one to watch. scored one of the goals when Rennes beat Arsenal 3-1 last season.

Interesting window. Time will tell if the replacements are good although feels like Joel and Saint Max alongside Jethro are quality additions. I got caught emotionally in the Andy C returning video. Prodigal son and all that. Then I thought he has finally had surgery on his ankle and had it reconstructed to strengthen it. He should be fine. But there is also his knee, groin, heel injuries. Hope he is fit but can’t see it.

You may genuinely feel it’s just as likely we could finish top 10 as get relegated but Mr Bruce’s record points to the latter.

Overall a decent window, some of the big money signings by other clubs may not be as sweet as ours (the next few months will be interesting). We need a new owner and a much improved management team, after our boycott let’s get behind the lads as they will need our support to finish outside the zone of no return. We lost Perez an ok player, nice profit and Rondon who was ace for us but on a three year deal no guarantee he would still perform.

Mooy would have been good. Strange not to have just gone out and got him, when you consider he’s gone to Brighton. Very achievable signing, of the right quality in the right position.

Assume not being able to shift Colback and Saivet has played a significant part in not replacing Diame, never mind upgrading.

mooy is a great signing for Brighton,be interesting how they go without hughton
not long ago we were getting quoted 20 mil plus for macarthy ,would have been well worth it for that price ,its only 2 josealoos ffs.
and welcome “home’ Andy,he says “i have spoken to the fans” ,then stands bang in front of the sports direct signage for his money shot .Was bishop out of shot with a cattle prod?
Will reserve judgement and give him the benefit of the doubt until we see him on the pitch .

Hilarious people ranting about players we were supposedly linked with and didn’t get.
Someone saying Mooy will keep Brighton up?? Are you for real….how exactly?
Perez was sh1te played 10 games a season
At least we’ve tried to put some pace into the team and at last filled both full back positions.
Carroll for me could be the signing of the season… fingers crossed

    1. A club like Watford out gunning us is a disgrace, same for the likes of Bournemouth.

    2. Carroll should be wrapped in cotton wool, train once a week if that and the rest of the time in a hydro pool etc for no impact fitness, similar to Lesley king

    3. Ashley needs to sell or the gap widens each season, hope his property empire fails

Mooy could keep them up. Key word COULD. If they beat the drop by one point and he’s their player of the season you would have to say he helped keep them up.

Just to clarify one thing, though it seems unlikely there are still several weeks during which we can sell or loan our players to different leagues in and around Europe.

If real Madrid came in with a fifty million offer for longstaff, we may well find it difficult to reject.

Unlikely, as I say. Personally, I’ll reserve judgement on the window until I see where all current players are at the European deadline.

Incomings have been acceptable, but we’re still left with some deadwood

If all those players play as well a they did for Benitez we have a very good squad. Our scouts seem to have done OK the last few years, but how much was down to them and how much was down to having a good manager is anybody’s guess. I still think Carr was an excellent scout, he was just handing players over to lousy managers who either didn’t want them or didn’t know what to do with them. Under the right manager, we could have had a dream partnership.

Yeah, the squad is decent. I’ve got Dummett, Atsu, Muto, Gayle and Yedlin sat in the stands, although the only one of those I’d feel comfortable starting would be Dummett, in a flat back four, or left side of 3 CB’s.

Feel as though we have 16 or 17 players I’d be happy to see starting, and the rest I’d be comfortable enough to see on the bench, apart from Colback and Saivet.

Can’t belive there are still people here with their faces so far up rafa’s rear.
