Where Have Some Of Our Reported Targets Ended Up On Deadline Day?

Newcastle have been linked with scores of players this summer. Many already made their moves prior to deadline day and others stayed with their clubs. Here are a few of the players that have made moves on deadline day that were linked with Newcastle this summer, even if some of the links were tenuous at best.

James McCarthy was linked with a £5m move to Newcastle last month along with teammate Yannick Bolasie who reportedly had a £10m release fee. Bolasie ended up turning down a move to CSKA Moscow.

However, James McCarthy has joined Crystal Palace from Everton in an £3m deal.

Ismaila Sarr was linked to Newcastle early this summer and there were even reports that Newcastle had a bid rejected for him. However, it always seemed like Watford were in lead for the Senegalese winger.

Sarr has joined Watford from Rennes in a deal that could rise to €36m. It has been reported the fee is €30m with an additional €6m if Watford avoid relegation.

Djibril Sidibe was a shock target a few weeks ago when it was reported that Newcastle were in discussions for the French right-back from Monaco. Nothing ever came from those initial reports.

Sidibe has joined Everton on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The permanent deal is believed to be around £12m.

Charlie Austin was again linked with a move this summer to Newcastle United. The 30-year-old striker was also heavily linked in the summer of 2015.

He has signed for West Brom in the Championship for around £4m on a two-year deal.

Aaron Mooy was linked to Newcastle throughout the second half of this past Premier League season. He was also linked in May as being a possible replacement for Mo Diame or Isaac Hayden, who it was thought was leaving at the time.

Mooy has joined Brighton on a season-long loan deal.

We’ve actually had a better window than Man U. Can see us finishing above them in the table this seas. They have an average squad. They sold their best player in Lukaku and didn’t replace him. Joke. Spurs have done well as have Leicester.

Hayden talks about Bruce’s standards. Values. Experience. Knowledge. How he plays the game. And he wants to stay. Steve Bruce could hardly have asked for a bigger public endorsement.

Mmm, maybe. He naturally plays a bit more forward than the player we probably really need Munster, but if we are gonna play 3 central mids, then we need 5 central mids in the squad, and Shelvey, Ki, Hayden, Longstaff and Mooy looks a lot better to me than Shelvey, Ki, Hayden, Longstaff and Colback, or just the four of them.

Really like Mooy like Shelvey but a bit harder working , faster and not as likely to get sent off!! Also scores and assists more than Shelvey although this season there are more players for Shelvey to pass too!

    quick question ?
For all those jumping on the backs of the so called “neggars ” but at the same time hailing this as a great window…
ask yourself do you honestly think they would have signed these players and even carrol (jurys out as to how he works out) had it not been for the club shitting itself over the boycott ?
To be fair i think its an ok window but only if jolinton is a beast and not another kenedy /riveire so a lot rests on him.
Lets not kid ourselves we have spent way less net than we got in from Tv .
We have an over weight player on loan ,an over 28 year old (perish the thought) on a zero hours contract.and three untested in the prem players.Yes i know so was sharr but i think cautious optimism on these.
had we kept rondon with joe /miggy and maxim and carrol as back up / impact i would be saying a very decent window .

As for I lovetoon87/88 give your head a shake you have form .we await your usual predications of finishing 18th and 3 nil defeats everyhome game /actualy lol when we go a goal down ? yet you try n call out those up rafa’s arse ?

OFD, hope all good. Yes, corbally is next to shannon banks. Grew up playing football on the green! Fished the shannon hard in between the two places. Am still a fishing fanatic and toon obviously. Shannon banks (Token especially) could be rough at times (red path across river ) and I ended up making a fairly nasty blade to use to stand up to local knackers. Limerick is a smaller version of Newcastle. Passionate, sports mad, very defiant and proud, with an obvious rough edge. Been telling my young fella tonight re 6ft 6inches andy carroll, the terror of centre halves. Cant lose his interest in nufc, even if he has decided on the scousers 🙁 . Htl (ps I will be having a pint in gus driscolls over the w/e) !

I think we are going to win vs arseanal, looking at their team they have great attacking players but basically still sh1t defense, probably adapting attack is best defense policy. They still don’t have good defensive midfield and their defenders are more interested in attacking, they don’t seem to be strong defending set pieces.
    hopefully we play well

    If i had to guess….

    1. Dubravka
    2. Darlow
    3. Elliott

    4. Willems
    5. Ritchie

    6. Krafth
    7. Yedlin

    8. Lascelles
    9. Schar
    10. Lejeune
    11. Dummett
    12. Fernandez
    13. Clarke

    14. Shelvey
    15. Longstaff
    16. Hayden
    17. Ki

    18. Almiron
    19. Saint-maximin
    20. Atsu
    21. Aarons

    22. Joelinton
    23. Carroll
    24. Gayle
    25. Muto

This means lazaar, sterry, Colback, saivet and unfortunately Manquillo finding a European or league one/two club or playing for the stiffs

    Rob @ 29

If we have a player that might leave before the European window shuts it would be Dubravka.

PSG sold Trapp so if the rumours were true about their interest in Dubs as a replacement then his name may be mentioned a few times until the 31st.

I’m not saying it will happen just that the window isn’t yet closed for outgoings and he was the one player mentioned as potentially moving to a club on the continent that happens to be playing in the CL..

Definitely the best window we’ve had for years in terms of players. With the wages difference I don’t think that much has been spent but we’ve got most of the positions we needed most.

Anyone know about Carroll’s current fitness?

    Cms

Shelvey ki Hayden lobby ritchie(used one side of the 3)

    Fwds

Almiron stmax Joel muto gayle Carrol

It’s a tad unbalanced due to being short of another CM (not colback or saviet) although Aaron’s may miss out for one of those

One fine day the boycott had nothing to do with signing these players what you talking about. The money was there to spend regardless of who the manager was and in fact we still should have a considerable amount remaining to go into January.

Those expressing concern about Saivet and Colback
The Euro window stays open until 31st of this month
so the Frenchman could go to France or Turkey and
Scotland’s window doesn’t shut until midnight 2nd Sept
The ginger one would feel right at home in Glasgow or
    Edinburgh

Still not got a clue why we brought in that Swedish RB when we will play a 352 as apparently he’s poor going forward so doesn’t make sense. Let’s see what happens as manquillo has had a fine pre season and I already like Yedlin in that position.

For me one of the best windows for many years and I actually think Bruce will do well but will all depend if he can keep the Rafa defensive effectiveness and organisation. We certainly have more going forward as Perez was the invisible man for a large part of the season (amazing at the end and if he ever adds consistency into his game will be a top top player).

Willems was a regular LB for Holland then was injured , then Holland
didn’t qualify for the WC in Russia.

He moved to Eintracht Frankfurt whose manager , Adi Hütter , tried
to convert him into a midfielder.

Jetro is only 25 and wants to be Holland’s regular LB again.
Paul Dummett is 28 next month.

We are the perfect move for him.
