Where Have Some Of Our Reported Targets Ended Up On Deadline Day?

Newcastle have been linked with scores of players this summer. Many already made their moves prior to deadline day and others stayed with their clubs. Here are a few of the players that have made moves on deadline day that were linked with Newcastle this summer, even if some of the links were tenuous at best.

James McCarthy was linked with a £5m move to Newcastle last month along with teammate Yannick Bolasie who reportedly had a £10m release fee. Bolasie ended up turning down a move to CSKA Moscow.

However, James McCarthy has joined Crystal Palace from Everton in an £3m deal.

Ismaila Sarr was linked to Newcastle early this summer and there were even reports that Newcastle had a bid rejected for him. However, it always seemed like Watford were in lead for the Senegalese winger.

Sarr has joined Watford from Rennes in a deal that could rise to €36m. It has been reported the fee is €30m with an additional €6m if Watford avoid relegation.

Djibril Sidibe was a shock target a few weeks ago when it was reported that Newcastle were in discussions for the French right-back from Monaco. Nothing ever came from those initial reports.

Sidibe has joined Everton on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy. The permanent deal is believed to be around £12m.

Charlie Austin was again linked with a move this summer to Newcastle United. The 30-year-old striker was also heavily linked in the summer of 2015.

He has signed for West Brom in the Championship for around £4m on a two-year deal.

Aaron Mooy was linked to Newcastle throughout the second half of this past Premier League season. He was also linked in May as being a possible replacement for Mo Diame or Isaac Hayden, who it was thought was leaving at the time.

Mooy has joined Brighton on a season-long loan deal.

The thing I found funny this year was people who were saying why did we spend so much on Joelinton when the board have been crucified in the past for not getting deals done and paying the extra.

Hibbit what do you class as a proven goal scorer? Gayle, Carrol, Muto, shelved etc have all scored goals in the prem. if you are talking about scoring a lot of goals in the league then did we have that with Rondon and Perez??? I don’t think so. Did you want us to go out and sign Charlie Austin? If not who Lukaku lol.

And then those questioning the AC signing based on the financial gain
    Question his fitness
    Question his attitude
    Question his ability
Do not question the club spending

very easy to dismiss my concerns against your optimistic forecast but my concerns are genuine and yes the players you list have scored goals in the Prem but not on a regular basis i still think we’er missing a goal scorer , but i’m sure we’ll find out soon enough who’s right ???

if we don’t have the ball, 30% possession every game and playing aimless long ball from GK all the time, it doesn’t matter if we have Lukaku, Benzema, Mbappe in our squad.

Hopefully with the team we have, we could create good number of chances every game for the strikers

    Us crazy Toon fans:-

We paid too much for players -vs- Why don’t we pay that bit extra to get the deal over the line.
We didn’t spend enough (again) -vs- We bought crap players for far too much money.
They can’t be good, we paid peanuts for them -vs- Schar/Dubravka etc.

I honestly don’t think Toon fans will or can ever be satisfied. Oh, and just to add, Rafa has gone, whatever the reason, he’s gone, I think chanting his name at the matches is tantamount to booing our own players.

    You just don’t do it.

Good morning you inbred dole wallers 🙂
Think it’s been an average window , obviously if Linton and saint-max form a good partnership with almiron it could end up being a great window – if it turns out we’ve signed a riviere and a thauvin we’re relegated for sure – let’s wait a few games to find out. Krafths looks slow with a poor touch in his YouTube highlights – definitely not a wingback – Carroll injured already and won’t play until September at least – really hope the rumour of 60k a week isn’t true – for free I don’t mind , it’s a signing to keep the inbred happy clappers happy but for 60k he is raping us

Let’s forget about boycotts and simply view the coming Arsenal game with optimism.
We seem to have had a good window with retention of key players and added pace and cover. News that Hayden endorses Bruce by staying is excellent news and should adequately balance the midfield.
Good also to see more balanced thinking on here and less ranting views prevailing. Hope it continues into a new season with fans supporting team and manager.
    Onwards and upwards.

different style of play, they are no longer under strict instruction. hopefully ASM can play like Ginola.
Tbh it’s just a feeling they will play better, I haven’t seen much of them other than highlights from friendlies under Bruce to be more detail.

I don’t see it like that .I think its more case of why pay the going rate for a player now and hand him over to a manager like Bruce .?
You are correct they have lots more to spend in January but unless we are in the bottom 6 don’t hold your breath.
Why spend close on 80 mil and give it to maclaren.
Yet rafa was forced to have the josalos and loan rondon.
Easy answer even as thick as our hierarchy are they knew the difference an elite coach can make .

only time will tell which way Bruce is going with his line up, but the differing styles of the 2 new fullbacks doesn’t suggest a team geared up to play all out attacking free flowing football ???

Why didn’t we get some of the players mentioned above, in particular Mooy who’s a very good player ?
Possibly because with the stand off between Rafa and Ashley lasting as long as it did, most clubs had made moves in the transfer market before we got going.

I’m not sure if he is going to use 3-5-2 all the time, probably using ultra defensive tactic on away games especially against big teams. they are good option to have, no guarantee playing all the time. that’s probably why N’soki deal fail

Not sure that the team will still be seen as Rafa’s.
The five incoming have, of course, been signed under Bruce, and there are a few, Hayden, Ritchie, Shelvey, Dummett, Yedlin, Lascelles, who preceded Rafa.

Diame didn’t need to be replaced, he barely played second half of last season and Sean longstaff was injured at the time too.

No way aarons gets a squad place ahead of Manquillo, who is our most natural wing back.

And I do think that Joelinton will be a revelation in the premier League. He has all the attributes he needs, he’s just got to fit the ground running with some early goals and we’ll have a beast on our hands.

15 to 20 premier League goals right there, he’ll be going in as my pick for top scorer on Martoon’s spread sheet. I doubt I’ll be unique 😉

5 new players, 20 played for rafa. probably 1 or 2 new players will play against arsenal.

what i am saying is we haven’t brought in players that Bruce will be able to change the style of play with quickly for what ever reason all these players will need time to adjust and adapt to life in the Prem none of them have had the benefit of a pre season together as a squad, Williams has a weight issue, Carroll is out till mid September, and the rest have no Prem experience, and on top of that we don’t have an easy start.

every one seems to think that the fans that do go to the game will give Bruce and this team time to adjust, well think again there will be no honeymoon period ,if Bruce and his team don’t hit the ground running the crowd will quickly turn against him, and the atmosphere will quickly turn toxic

love him or hate him it’s a massive ask of Bruce and his team
