Steve Bruce Confirms Andy Carroll’s Incentive-Based Contract

Lee Ryder of the Chronicle has an article with some comments by Steve Bruce about Andy Carroll’s one-year contract.

Steve Bruce has confirmed that it is incentive-based as was initially reported. This is what Steve has said.

“It’s all incentivized about playing, for a start.

“And Andy made it very clear to me, a bit like myself, he didn’t hesitate to sign it.

“With the structure of the deal the way it is that Andy signed up to, it can only be a no-brainer because if he gets fit – and he’s back running – then you know as well as I do that Andy Carroll is Andy Carroll as a football player.

We are still a bit surprised that a modern footballer would agree to a contract based on incentives. It shows Andy’s passion for the club that he has signed this type of deal. Though it is for only one year, so he can still move on if things don’t work out.

Andy Carroll– back in the black and white

There is no confirmation as to whether the incentives are performance-oriented or appearance-oriented or a combination of the two. We would assume it to be a combination of both appearances and production.

There is a risk in contracts like these as the player must remain fit and could be hesitant on the pitch through fear of injury. Though it is somewhat of a catch-22 as they must perform as well.

We don’t think this will be a problem for Andy Carroll as he will be inspired to give his all for the shirt. We just hope that he will get the opportunity to do so.

This is a risk for Andy, though he will have confidence he can get back to his best. He has seemed very determined since he rejoined the club on Thursday.

This deal also is really a no-brainer for Newcastle. The only downside is if Andy can’t get fit and back on the pitch, he will have taken a squad spot from someone like Rolando Aarons.

However, right now we are still very pleased with the signing of Andy Carroll and can’t wait for his first appearance the second time around.

Mike Ashley: “The last bid, the one from UAE, he’s a prince and he’s got £38bn or £100bn, all these numbers — well, why would you even care what you’re paying then? What difference would £10m either way make? You would want speed, you would want certainty, you would want the keys and to get on with it.”

And quite undeserved, Munster. What did Rafa ever do for us?

How do we know Carroll is on 60k a week? i hav,nt read or heard it apart from this blog. Does anyone think Cashley would pay anyone that much money for sitting in the treatment room? i doubt that very much.

All this Benitez slagging is opportunistic and evidently designed to make Bruce look better. It’s horribly PR biased and makes you wonder if the bizarre truth (as it often turns out to be) is that these are the”views” being deliberately promoted by those close to Ashley’s regime.

Word of warning to all posters – be careful when you put on your trainers and never do it without a trained podiatrist present … 🙂

He also missed large chunks of last season through injury and has been blighted by problems throughout his time with The Hammers.

Carroll even injured his ankle putting on his trainers at home and sent security CCTV footage from his house of the incident to the club as proof of his claim.

20k a week, with bonuses to bring it up to 70k. I was pretty close with my guess of 10k a week with bonuses to bring it to 60k if he plays.

    Munster,
When will you realise this is not about Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce, it could just as well be about Carlo Ancellotti and George Burley. The club is much bigger than managers they come and go, some always popular and many not. It is about the statement of intent that swapping a UEFA elite for middling Championship, not because like Brighton, they like the guy’s philosophy or style, they’ve chosen Steve Bruce because he was the nearest to the top of the rung of desperate managers willing to work with the idiots running our football club!

Yes, I do. Mike Ashley physically signed Heads of Terms agreeing to sell Newcastle to BZG for £350m. The paperwork was lodged with the Premier League. It’s very easy to shoot the messenger

‘PHYSICALLY SIGNED’ HEAD OF TERMS WITH BZG

Mike Ashley “physically signed” a Head to Terms agreement agree if to sell Newcastle United this summer, according to The Sun journalist Justin Allen.

The Magpies were at the centre of a long and heavily reported saga over a potential buyout from the Bin Zayed Group for some time before it became apparent that they would not be under new ownership before the new campaign.
A new article from Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has suggested that no agreement was ever in place to sell this summer, but Allen, who initially broke the story, has disputed that suggestion.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “Mike Ashley physically signed Heads of Terms agreeing to sell Newcastle to BZG for £350m.

Carroll is on 20k a week basic, not 60k

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9685052/andy-carroll-newcastle-pr-masterstroke-mike-ashley/amp

That’s the only link I can find atm but I read on another site that it was 20k rising to 70k if he plays which is exactly what the sun reported here.
