The Swansea City homepage has some comments from their manager Steve Cooper about Newcastle’s on-loan goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. Freddie has made two starts in Swansea’s first two matches. Today he was able to make a wonderful penalty save but as Steve Cooper revealed it was not just blind luck.
This is what Cooper has said about the penalty save today:
“Waghorn has gone that way on four out of his last five, and we just felt – with it being the first game at home – he would do what he thinks he is good at.
“It was not a bad penalty, it was just a really good save, but fair play to Martyn Margetson (Swansea’s goalkeeping coach) and Freddie.
“They had done their analysis and it had worked for us, and we expected to save the penalty once he went that way.
“There is analysis going on with every aspect, most clubs are pretty similar but we believe in what we are doing off the pitch in supporting the players and giving them the best opportunity to perform and I guess that was an important detail today.
“It’s brilliant for Freddie, there is no better thing for the goalkeeper than to save a penalty and get a decent result.
“It would have been better if we had won the game after doing it, but I am pleased for him.
“He got an amazing reception from the fans there after the game which will be good for him to see that.”
Woodman has made quite the impression in just a few weeks at Swansea as he continues to get the first-team football he needs for his development.
Jacob Murphy– goal on his debut
The Sheffield Star has some comments from Sheffield Wednesday’s caretaker boss Lee Bullen on the play of his wingers in their 2-0 victory over Barnsley. One of those wingers, of course, is Jacob Murphy who just joined the club on a deadline day loan deal.
He enjoyed a goal-scoring debut as he and fellow Owl’s winger Kadeem Harris had an outstanding game. This is what Bullen has said about his wide duo:
“I don’t know if its old-fashioned now to play wingers that actually want the ball to take on full-backs and want to stay wide.
“Modern-day football seems to be that wingers come inside and try to find pockets of space in behind the midfield and try to play in there with full-backs overlapping.
“You’ve got 11 players who were excellent but if we’re going to focus on our two wide men I thought they both gave them a lot of trouble all day.
“Jacob must have thought all his Christmases had come at once when that first touch of the ball for Sheffield Wednesday at home comes and you’re passing it into the back of the net,”
“They’re out and out wingers. Why wouldn’t you want them to do the most natural thing? They did great.”
This is a great first step for Jacob in salvaging any chance at a future with Newcastle. What he needs to show at Hillsborough is consistency and that he has not found his level in the Championship. He must show a big progression from last season’s somewhat disappointing loan spell at West Brom.
This performance is something he can build on and hopefully, he can have a breakthrough season for the Owls.

Comment #41I’m thinking a 1-2 or 0-2 loss tomorrow. We only took 3 pts. off the top six last year and its the first game with all the new signings. Hop I am wrong.

Comment #71It’s a frightening thought having Joelinton and Almiron as our strikeforce in the Premier League, let’s hope they hit the ground running and put a few away. It’s another huge gamble by the slug hoping these two can get goals and impress so he can double his money in a couple of seasons instead of adding them to what we already had available. In a 3-5-2 the lack of quality we have at WB will probably be costly to us,you pay peanuts and you get monkeys!Another long hard battle with relegation beckons due to the bizarre decisions by the parasite and his cohorts, good job we’ve got at leat £30 million in reserve for January cos we’re going to need it.

Comment #73Bruce’s record is sketchy and I don’t think anybody denies that. He has had good runs and has been promoted and relegated. He is our manager now though.
I don’t want NUFC to be relegated and I don’t not want to sabotage Bruce.
The Confederacy of Dunces will say I am being an Ashley apologist for saying that. But let them!

Comment #77The forwards need to run around till they drop. Defence and midfield is good. If we can finish a decent percentage of the chances we create, we’ll have an enjoyable season, and finish upper mid. Good start will help immensely, and it’s on the cards. Big game for us, more run of the mill for them. We need to win those 50 50’s and get to the loose ball first. Out run and out compete them. If we do, we can win it.

Comment #78Some will say that a boycott and supporting the team are not mutually exclusive. Wrong. A boycott is p!ssing and moaning. Supporting the team is cheering them on and hoping for a win.
The boycott is dragging everything down.
And it is only one game. You won’t even commit to what you are doing beyond that FFS.
No Plan. No Organisation. No Idea. No Clue.

I’m not sure why you’re so against any protests / boycott?
It’ll have virtually no impact to the likes of me or you (being so far away) and I think we both know that the popularity of it will be defined by on field success or failure.
