Joelinton, Dummett, and Longstaff To Start Against Arsenal At St James Park

Newcastle have announced Steve Bruce’s squad for today’s home match against Arsenal. Here is the starting eleven for this afternoon’s contest.

Here is how our opponents will line up.

It looks like Steve Bruce will use the same 3-5-2 formation that he has implemented during pre-season. Joelinton will make his debut in front of the crowd at St James Park. Our new number 9 will lead the line with Almiron behind him.

Paul Dummett comes into the team to man the left hand side of the back three. Matt Ritchie has also been declared fit enough to make the start at left wing-back.

New signings Allan Saint-Maximin, Jetro Willems, and Emil Krafth will all be on the bench to start the match.

This is a big match for the lads and let’s hope they can get 3 points on Steve Bruce’s debut. We have lost twelve of the last thirteen against Arsenal so we want to see them turn it around today.

The amount of dullards in response to the team announcement on Twitter by the official account – “wheres ASM?”, “Why no ASM?” and so on.

This is what happens. People ignore reality, like they did with the takeover that was never happening, build up in their own mind a fake reality and then get upset when it doesn’t happen.

Everything indicated this was the likely formation and lineup, but some have been deluding themselves we’re going to start with Almiron/ASM and Joelinto so end up disappointed and frustrated. All their own making.

I’m very happy with that lineup!

Exactly as expected and we could dominate the CM – they have Xhaka, Willock and Guendouzi – and cause problems for Chambers and Sokratis who play at CB.

Howay the lads! Get into them! Hound from the start and work your knackers off. There for the taking.

Arsenal: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Sokratis, Monreal, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Willock, Nelson, Aubameyang.
Subs: Martinez, Luiz, Torreira, Ceballos, Pepe, Martinelli, Lacazette.

Seriously? I remember when it was shuddering reading an Arsenal team sheet. I better keep quiet until the game is over, but that is an Arsenal side there for the taking.

As expected that team picks itself. It’s Bruce’s to mess up really so howay the lads and get a decent result today. Hopefully the new lads won’t be affected by the customary shell shock, bothered a lot riding on them to all gel and not get a series of demoralising losses. If Bruce doesn’t wreck the excellent defensive coaching of his predecessor we might have a good start.

Williems and Krafth will be played as wing backs so in essence they are playing in midfield. I think it’s a great bench tbh.

Bruce has set the bench up to revert to a back four if necessary and change the attack to ASM and/or Muto.

    Good bench imo.

The completely unbiased Shola Ameobi will be in the studio before every Newcastle game shown on Sky this season. If Shola cannot attend, Newcastle legend Dennis Wise will be in his place.

    Prediction – win 2-1

Specific prediction – win 2-1, Ritchie penalty off a trip on Almiron by Chambers and Joelinton.

    Very good and predictable eleven.

With the exception of Joelinton the rest have played together on numerous occasions and should play as a recognised team and not a bunch of individuals.

I don’t think we should be too worried about this Arsenal team,it’s not really intimidating. If the lads get stuck in straight away I can see the gunners on the back foot making mistakes but we need to take our chances when they come.HWLT.

From those lineups I’d definitely say there’s something in it for us. Joelinton up against Sokratis and try to isolate Chambers against Almirons pace.

Willock for them has had a fantastic pre season however so he’s going to be ecstatic starting the first game of the season. Need to be very careful he isn’t underestimated.
