Midfielder Gives Positive Assessment Of Today’s Match And Gets Some Recognition For His Performance

Isaac Hayden was interviewed for the Newcastle United website after his excellent performance in a 0-1 defeat to Arsenal.

This is some of what Isaac has said about the match.

“I thought we ran them close. I thought we had the better of the chances, really, during the game.

“But, against a top-six club in the Premier League, if you make one mistake – or if they have one half chance – they’re going to make the most of it.

“But credit to the lads, I think it was one of those ‘nearly performances’. I think we’ve had quite a few of those over the last couple of years but there’s definitely progress.

“Hopefully the fans can see from the club’s perspective that the players that they’ve brought in – and the players that are here – have progressed. It was a new formation, a new style of play and I think it suited the team today.

“I think it’s going to take time. Unfortunately, in football, you don’t seem to get much time.

“The new manager’s come in – it’s going to take time to get used to him for a lot of the players – and there’s a new formation as well as new players coming in.

“There’s a lot of change at the football club but, you know, as the weeks go on I think you’ll start to see the benefit of it. Even today, you saw the benefit of it. It was a good performance, lacking slightly in the final pass or taking a bit more care on the ball.

“But, in general – especially against a top-six side – I thought it was quite a good performance.”

We think Isaac Hayden is accurate in his reflection of today’s performance. It is early going and on another day it could have been three points. We were punished by a mistake but kept Arsenal very limited in their chances.

The formation and style of play are new and that showed in some of the poor passes and lack of spatial awareness. This is something the team will work to improve upon.

We still don’t know what the best eleven is as Allan Saint-Maximin, Jetro Willems, and Emil Krafth have only just the team less than a week and a half ago with Krafth just joining on Thursday.

Steve Bruce has only been with the club since July 17th which is just over three weeks ago. It will take time to get all the issues sorted and some of the finer details perfected. It is not time to panic just yet. Let’s hope to see some improvement against Norwich City this Saturday.

This is what Isaac has said about that upcoming match at Carrow Road.

“It’ll be a tough game. I watched Norwich on Friday and they played some good stuff.

“They’ll be wanting to bounce back from their defeat and they’ll be raring to go.

“It’s their first Premier League game back at home and we’re under no illusions – every game’s tough, and it’s just up to us to prepare this week, do the right things and go from there.”

The game against Norwich will be very interesting as Norwich have a lot of work to do this week as well. We felt they were very naive against Liverpool and paid the price. However, they do offer a threat going forward and Teemu Pukki looks a really good player.

Isaac has also been receiving some plaudits for his solid performance today. Some twitter accounts have posted some statistical analysis of his appearance today below.

I also think 343 is our best formation, but St-Max is no Perez in terms of defending from the front, and doesn’t appear to have the goals, assists, and general link up play that Ayoze has either. We’ve downgraded there I think. Doesn’t mean he won’t develop into a top player, but right now, we appear weaker up top. Joelinton looks ok. Manquillo has done enough to keep the shirt. Lejeune is missed, Ki should have been on for Shelvey, and the game was crying out for Andy Carroll in the last twenty.

Danishmag classic goldfish fan, you have absolutely no knowledge of football and could guarantee your day is ruined if someone slightly inconveniences you.

Need to keep you in that goldfish bowl and away from NUFC analysis, we have had one game against a top 6 side, the world hasnt fallen apart yet.

Agreed Nicky, the players we brought in will be. Able to do the job eventually but it will take time. Very unwise to have lost both Perez and Rondon. With some luck lets hope they get switched on to the playing style quickly

Was very positive seeing what we did from Shelvey, had his engine going today when he probably is still quite unfit in matches, shame Schar had a tough day but those will happen.

Like others i think we need the three up top with just 2 CMs pairing Hayden with either Shelvey Longstaff or Ki

Will be great to have Caroll and Gayle on bench in future when we are chasing that goal

Ideally, I’d like those 5000 empty seats to be filled by 5000 loyal passionate fans who’d marched in solidarity to the ground and then gone in to sing for the lads and against the owner.

Realistically though, 5000 empty seats will send a message to the owner that more is needed to win them back.

It pains me to see it, but it has to be better far far better than doing nothing.

Not the great start I had hoped for but we lost by one poor pass and not covering, a bloody sloppy give away, Arsenal didn,t create much more to be honest, Dubravka didn’t have too much to do. Thought we looked laboured in the middle with too many stray passes. At the back, not sure on Lascelles, does not look the player he was, doesn’t win much from corners, when did he last score, probably me just disappointed. Hopefully the new lads will get up to speed and we can gel as a team.
On to Norwich, as always I travel in hope.

Jail the liar is at it again. If you can find a post from me that said I wanted bruce over rafa I’ll listen to u. But rafa wanted the same money, hilariously, as Pep and some chinese non entity club were waving 12mill at him. So off he trotted. Of course you claimed that I wanted Pearson over Rafa so you have previous on this.

Oh, how we should be looking to stay up like last season etc. Talked down to us whereas JJ said we should be pushing for europe spots like when he was a player. I hate the way some in the media seem to think we should be happy that we are just premier league cannon fodder

You will never get away with playing 3 at the back in the Premier league it leaves huge gaps you cannot cover. You could drive a fleet of buses through our defence never mind 1…
    And Bruce was a defender!!
Out of his depth and I think he knows it too..
Baloney it’s the players who are paid to entertain not the other way round…

3 at the back can work well if 2 of them can bring the ball forward or hit a good long pass. we have schar and lejeune to do this. however 3 central midfielders in front of them, one of them shelvey will never work, they stifle each other

We lost today because of Steve Bruce, I don’t dislike him and have no hate for him at all, He’s not a successful manager and has no idea about tactics, He proved this today, He had no plan B, he doesn’t coach his players like a good manager does? We are 1-0 down so change it and have another formation that will work and get us a goal? He was shown up today.

3 at the back in possession, 5 at the back without. It’s good defensively, and good going forward, but the wing backs need to get up and back. Manquillo and Ritchie do it quite well. Willems was maybe a bit too high up the pitch for their goal, but to his credit was looking to get forward and win it, and Dummett did hit a short pass.

Both Jenas and Neville were right in their assessments on MOTD. Two sides of the same coin.

To be fair to the team there was zero atmosphere there today and we are a team that feeds off the crowd big time. Everyone was quiet afraid to chant. They were all afraid of getting caught on tv lol.

It felt dead there though. People seemed in two minds, the planned boycott had a huge affect mentally on the crowd. Even if there wasnt much of an actual boycott, it subdued us to a whimper.

I agree with what Nicky the ball said. Arsenal will be top 6 this season, we lost by one defensive error, one goal. Lots of positives for me, Haydon was solid, taking both JonJo and Lobby off changed the shape of the team and we struggled after. I watched the game in the Gate with what seemed like hundreds of others that had boycotted, didn’t look that way on Sky Sports though. Makes me wonder why I bothered with my little protest.

It was the first game of the season, there was always gonna be a good crowd. Maybe the boycott will get more traction from here on. But tbh the fans have spoken. The vast majority clearly dont want a boycott so its pointless to keep talking about it. It’s time to accept it, and do what we do best, And that’s be the number1 supporters of any team, anywhere, anytime ever!!

Joelinton looks like a poor finisher, he needs a bit more composure in front of goal.

If they’d kept Rafa, given him the 60 million and let him sign Rondon, we would have won that game today against a weakened Arsenal.

Another loss at Norwich is on the cards, players will lose interest and stop listening to Agent Bruce and his minions.

Mass exodus of players come January, but they will hang onto Bruce even when we go down.
