New Signing Speaks Of Disappointment And Looking Forward To Norwich

Allan Saint-Maximin has spoken after today’s game about his debut and also about what to expect in the coming season. The Newcastle United homepage has published an article based on Allan’s comments.

Here is some of what our new forward has said about this game.

“I’m disappointed because we wanted to win this game. We did a lot of things and had a lot of occasions to score, but we played against a very good team – we have to know that.

I think we did a good job, and in football sometimes, you do everything and you don’t score, and sometimes you have one occasion and you don’t score.

“I think it’s what happened today. Arsenal didn’t have a lot of occasions – they maybe had five occasions, Aubameyang got one and scored directly. Joelinton had a lot of occasions, Shelvey too with a good shot.

“We did a good job, but the goalkeeper did good things. We’re really disappointed.”

“Sometimes you score directly, and sometimes you don’t score and after, it’s more difficult.

“It’s about this game – we played against a good team with very good players and we lost only 1-0. I hope everything will be better against Norwich.”

This result was down to Arsenal taking advantage of their few chances while Newcastle failed to do so. It’s time to get back to work for Steve Bruce and the lads. We hope they can identify what went wrong and what worked in today’s game and implement some changes for the game at Norwich City on Saturday.

Allan also spoke about his reception from the fans on his debut and he seems determined to repay them with future performances. However, he also seems to have the right attitude about coming off the bench for the time being.

“It was really good. They are amazing fans and I want to do everything for the fans. You see when I came on the pitch and everybody shouting. I want to score and I want to make assists.

“I know and the fans know in this game it’s difficult to show what you have to show, but I think it’s a good (challenge) for every player. We have to do better things against Norwich to win.

“I need more time to show what I have to show, but first I have to stay in the bench and come a little bit and play a little bit – it’s what I have to do. I have to work hard in training to be in the 11 and maybe do better things.”

Allan has also tweeted the following to the fans.

We were happy with what we saw from Allan Saint-Maximin today. There is a lot of potential in this team for sure. The talent is here and it’s up to Steve Bruce and his staff to make sure they get the best out of this squad.

I didnt see a whole lot to get excited about in st max but saw plenty to get concerned about in man u v Chelsea. We talked about pace but only miggy looks like he has serious gas. Joe needs to run the channels more to stretch teams but he didnt look interested in that aspect of the game.

Will see in a few games how well Bruce can drill these players…specially the new ones…

If we play 3 in central midfield again…Longstaff-Hayden-Shelvey…then we shd seriously question why we have only 4 central midfielders…?

we didn’t seem to have much presence in central attacking midfield. Perez territory.

It’s amazing reading last season’s threads. I’m now up to the 1-0 loss at home to Brighton in our 9th match when we had just 2pts on the board.

The turnaround in opinion on some players compared to how people speak about them now. Rondon and Perez being the obvious two, but others as well.

People should learn not be so absolutist and jump to conclusions based on a small sample in their analysis.

So could anyone actually tell what formation we were playing in the second half ? Because it had me baffled. It was a bit of a shambles.

We actually played alright until Shelvey went off. It was totally disjointed after that, players floating around everywhere. The new left back looks like a fat git.

Not sure what people expect from our limited squad? We weren’t thumped. We often got beat when Rafa was the gaffer.
There will be more defeats than wins Garenteed! One defeat and loads have written us off. Get a grip!

C-dog was gunning for Rafa by match 7 of last season, so take his panicky comments after 1 match with a pinch of salt.

Just a fragile soul. Wouldn;t want to be next to him on a battlefield. He’d wet himself.

He also said “Rondon got West Brom relegated.” in the post-match Brighton thread.

Its not the defeat people are moaning about,it’s the manner of the defeat.
    playing players not 100%
    not telling players their role.
not having cm on the bench.

    these are worrying signs.

It’s very rare that players ever play 100% fit. There are always knocks and strains. One of the hardest jobs for a coach is making the decision to risk them or not.

Not that I’m trying to defend Bruce, but if It were my first competitive game as manager and on the morning of the game my captain had thrown up, I’d probably take the chance on them as well.

It looks as though the fans have achieved their wish with McClaren about to be shown the door. The greatest manager we have had in the premier league era hounded from the club for no good reason. It’s not his fault the players aren’t responding and that we’re in this situation. In fact it’s not the players either. The fans are the ones to blame. Mike Ashley has given everything to this club and the constant abuse he receives has made our premier league survival almost impossible to achieve. I don’t stand beside all you. I stand beside the players, McClaren and Ashley. Shame on you all.

Does Bruce do tactical planning or just Sgt. Major style training ?
The game really has moved on and just hope that he can keep up and persuade the team that he knows what he’s doing.

The reality is we’ve gone from a world class manager and a genius tactician to a manager with very little tactical awareness was very apparent today. We were a shambles in the 2nd half. We had no shape and the players didn’t seem to know what their jobs were.

First game my opinion we were disjointed throughout the team.

I thought we started ok and looked well drilled initially – Arsenal missing a few players.

    Negative/protective football then took over.

Dubs looked all over the place, should of left his defenders to sort out most of Arsenal attack. Lascelles was drawn to the ball rather than staying ‘touch-tight’ to PEA.

Our new Dutch no3 ….Early days.

Longstaff will get back to his form of last season – too much already put on this lad shoulders.

Joelinton, likes to chest the ball, early days.

Almiron – please give the lad the first penalty, needs a goal. Good first half.

ASM …I can see the Lua Lua comparisons, again early days.

I just did not see in the second half any direction, we were too negative backwards pass when it should be forwards – Arsenal today were average, not a top 4 team.

Bruce has his doubters, I am one of those – but I will give the lad til January, pointless doing anything else. Again I will repeat what Steve Harper said ‘Bruce is perfect for Newcastle, the best Manager he worked with tactically ‘

He knows better than I do, hope he is right.

Finally, no good doing boycotts at home if Sky Sports dont show all the missing fans, briefly showed a few sections. But what did we expect, not in their interests.

More than held our own 1st half. Second half was a bit of a shambles, 5 defenders and 5 headless chickens. Despite that a point would not have been outrageous. Need to gel quickly! Not certain that front 3 has 25 goals in them? That said it is Arsenal, not the best Arsenal but still a lot of quality. Got to get through a tough start and hope it comes together.

No need to over react. Think most level headed people didn’t think we would get anything from this. At the same time some definitely worrying things. 4 defenders and no midfielders on the bench, Jetro didn’t know what position he was suppose to play when he came on, looked lost in second half. This all comes down to Bruce, however cant say I am surprised by any of it.
