New Signing Speaks Of Disappointment And Looking Forward To Norwich

Allan Saint-Maximin has spoken after today’s game about his debut and also about what to expect in the coming season. The Newcastle United homepage has published an article based on Allan’s comments.

Here is some of what our new forward has said about this game.

“I’m disappointed because we wanted to win this game. We did a lot of things and had a lot of occasions to score, but we played against a very good team – we have to know that.

I think we did a good job, and in football sometimes, you do everything and you don’t score, and sometimes you have one occasion and you don’t score.

“I think it’s what happened today. Arsenal didn’t have a lot of occasions – they maybe had five occasions, Aubameyang got one and scored directly. Joelinton had a lot of occasions, Shelvey too with a good shot.

“We did a good job, but the goalkeeper did good things. We’re really disappointed.”

“Sometimes you score directly, and sometimes you don’t score and after, it’s more difficult.

“It’s about this game – we played against a good team with very good players and we lost only 1-0. I hope everything will be better against Norwich.”

This result was down to Arsenal taking advantage of their few chances while Newcastle failed to do so. It’s time to get back to work for Steve Bruce and the lads. We hope they can identify what went wrong and what worked in today’s game and implement some changes for the game at Norwich City on Saturday.

Allan also spoke about his reception from the fans on his debut and he seems determined to repay them with future performances. However, he also seems to have the right attitude about coming off the bench for the time being.

“It was really good. They are amazing fans and I want to do everything for the fans. You see when I came on the pitch and everybody shouting. I want to score and I want to make assists.

“I know and the fans know in this game it’s difficult to show what you have to show, but I think it’s a good (challenge) for every player. We have to do better things against Norwich to win.

“I need more time to show what I have to show, but first I have to stay in the bench and come a little bit and play a little bit – it’s what I have to do. I have to work hard in training to be in the 11 and maybe do better things.”

Allan has also tweeted the following to the fans.

We were happy with what we saw from Allan Saint-Maximin today. There is a lot of potential in this team for sure. The talent is here and it’s up to Steve Bruce and his staff to make sure they get the best out of this squad.

I don’t think fans have as much confidence in Steve Bruce as they had in Rafa
For all the football wasn’t pretty we felt he had the know how to get that bit extra out of ordinary players.
Bruce is a habitual failure and todays subs already have the fans worried.
Some fan at the match on telly interview said it is what it is.
No wonder we are where we are,in a nightmare of AshLie s design.

It would have been better had those excellent hardy souls who marched through the rain to the ground in protest gone in once they’d arrived and sung out lustily against the owner and for the lads. The atmosphere in the ground will inevitably be dire with fewer diehard fans. The passivity of those who go without reservation plays directly into Ashley’s hands. Need agitation in the ground. Need better support for the team. Lower attendances cost the club money. Not Ashley. I support all protest, and admire all protestors, but I think we are best served by having the loudest voices in the ground on match days.

We needed more players. I’m not sure about Joelinton. Dummett and Willems cost us the game. Apart from PEA and Mikhytarian, Arsenal were poor. We needed Rondon. Don’t like the formation we play. Should’ve kept Murphy and Aarons. Better and faster than Ritchie.

I thought 0-0 would have be a fair result today but you make mistakes like that and the defence goes missing, you’ll get punished.

With this formation we really need both Ki and Matthew Longstaff on the bench. I don’t want to be seeing Ritchie in the middle really.

Losing Shelvey affected us but we looked flat the second half, I thought Muto would have got 20 minutes.

Tough game against Norwich, they will upset teams this season. I’d like us to go 433 with Saint-Maximin and Almiron giving Joelinton more support.

Not sure if Jetro is any better than we already have. ASM is tricky etc but is he as disciplined as Atsu (whos not much cop). Cant see ASM defending much. Time will tell on him

Id rather see mig on the left and Joelinton and Gayle up front

Very ordinary thinking to play Dummett and Lascelles if both were not 100 percent, and so have to go with two centre backs on the bench and no midfield cover. Why not play Fernandez, with Dummett on the bench, and have Ki available. Ki should either be in the 11 or on the bench, always. We play 3 mids, only have 4 in the squad, when we need 5, and end up playing Matt Ritchie in there. Poor, as was the communication with Willems and the rest of the side, when he came on and played DM for a while. What was the thinking there, other than little, if any. Still disappointed about this. It’s rudimentary stuff.

300 Spartans stood at Thermopylae today. We marched from SD to SJP. We, the 300. All of us under 1 banner. I mean 10 banners. NUST, Magpie Group, Ashley Out and at least 7 others. It wasn’t confusing at all. We succeeded. The 300.

Our club is dead; because whoever we sign and however we’ll we do against the better teams, the owner has no ambition to improve. So what is the point in us screaming our heads off in support of the team? It’s dead!

When Willems came on for Shelvey I thought good move Shelvey was struggling and Willems is going to slot into the middle and give us some energy as he chased down an arsenal player I thought here we go……

Willems and Richie then seem to decide themselves what is happening and to be honest the confusion eventually leads to the goal but what happened after was probably the most worrying we lost our heads big time and the players seemed to go
back to the form of the start of last season or the Pardew years where we would just fall to pieces and then Saint-Maxim was basically our new Ben Arfa who would be expected to get a goal single handed!!

I think we will really find out what we are all about against Norwich their defence is terrible we need to be all over them like a rash no excuses

The no shows were much more to do with a summer of discontent. With another failed takeover and Rafa taking the juan. Nothing to do with the protest groups at all. They managed 300 on their march so they can take no credit for no shows in the ground. They had nothing to do with that.

    jane,
Come along to a meeting and find out. I think we got a message out today and there’s no need to ask people to boycott anymore, I think the football will take care of that. There isn’t any goals in the team, we struggled last year with Rondon out for the first ten games, it took a lot of nerve to see us through that early storm, if Joelinton doesn’t start scoring, the odd worldy from Schar and Longstaff isn’t going to help us out, how many PL goals does Shelvy have for us, was it just the one against West Ham in his first game? Who in their right mind decided to get rid of our top three goal scorers and replace them with one fit striker. Anyway over to you lot and what ever you call the opposite to a neggar.
martoon, what was our bet again.

I thought today was a complete shambles, I couldn’t even tell what formation we were supposed to be playing?
I always loved when Rafa used the word compact when describing the way he set us out to play, today we were all over the place and Bruce not giving Jetro Willems clear instructions as to where he wants him to play is amateurish at best and proves he has no right to be in charge of a club at this level.
Call me a doom monger or whatever but this is going to be a long season and I have zero faith in Steve Bruce.

Here’s how I see the season unfolding, by Christmas we will be in the shite, maybe not relegation fodder but close.

The Bruce Banner experiment has gone wrong and he’s turned into the Incredible Sulk.

Ashley will be shitting his pants realizing he made a huge mistake like every fan, commentator and news people have told him before the start of the season.

He will convince Jose to come to the club and give him money he needs to save us, Jose will do this and become the new messiah of Newcastle United.

Honestly and sorry if people don’t like this but I would prefer Jose over Bruce any damn day of the week.
