Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In Opening Loss To Arsenal?

Who was Newcastle’s best player today in the disappointing loss at home to a weakened Arsenal side? The team could not capitalize on their first-half chances and the changes Steve Bruce made in the second half failed to produce the desired momentum needed to change the game.

However, this is just the first game and there were positives to be sure. Almiron looked good early and Joelinton had a few chances. Though, he dropped deep far too often in our opinion. Bruce should look to play a little more directly as the one-touch passing often led to unnecessary losses of possession.

Isaac Hayden– good performance today

They need to fine-tune what they did in the first half and should never replace two midfielders with wide players again in our opinion. We thought Hayden and Dummett played well and that the new signings showed a lot of promise.

Allan Saint-Maximin showed signs of being a real crowd pleaser this season. All is not lost as it’s just a one to nil home loss to Arsenal but there is much work to be done for sure. It’s on to Carrow Road to face Norwich on Saturday.

Almiron and Joelinton really need to metamorphose into goalscorers. A lot of energy upfront now though which should be exciting to watch.

We had no balance in the team and after the subs were like schoolboys all chasing the ball together. No fluency or understanding. We need to improve and quickly.

While I agree with you Danish that we’ve replaced an 8/10 boss with a 3/10 one and will struggle, you have to say today’s performance was stereotypical Benitez, losing 1-0 to a big six. We only picked up three points against the big six last year. You have to say its a so so start for Bruce. Not good, not bad.

Probably give a debut to Krafth next week. Manquillo isn’t fast enough going forward. Missing Yedlin and Lejuene. I’d bring Fernandez in for Dummett too. Shelvey must have been injured. He was a threat earlier on.

Terrible second half. Need more running from joelintin. No idea what Brucewas doing with shelvey but it was a game changer. Still too many poor players like Manquillo. Looks like the protest wasnt any big deal either.

Agree Toon Tang . One performance and a poor one at that but money has been spent and it looked like pretty well spent. Wait till we get the Beast of Gateshead up and running and fit. He could be a flop or an awesome success off the bench. No good battering Bruce after one game. We are what we are as the underlying reason has been very well documented over the past 12 years.

Not a good start, but to say Newcastle is the far worst team of all teams in this division is 100 % wrong. Let’s against Norwich.

Not sure the reason for all the doom and gloom? I thought we matched Arsenal and were undone by a mistake. The new lads looked promising and Almiron was lively. Though like others I was baffled by the substitutions?

Fair play to the boycotters and people like Hibbitt who made the unenviable decision to give up his ST.
The fact someone like SB is our manager is down to one man and one man only. Arsenal have Edu as their technical director, we have a de facto Charnley who knows nothing about football!!

Gate revenue can be worth up to 40M, I’d say even Ash would miss that. However, as has been said millions of times before it’s the spectacle of sky cameras panning to an empty ground which will cause the maximum embarrassment to Ashley.

Yes we may beat the Norwich’s (won’t count on it) but our ambition under Ash is finish 17th and nothing more and always will be. Rafa was a big threat to that under ambition and as he said ” they may want a coach who can finish 15th but that is not me”. Most certainly is Bruce though.

    DAMN YOU, BRUCE!! DAMN YOUU!!!

we have been comfortably winning all our matches against arsenal for the last 10 years, beating them average 5 goals/match. Now because you are in charge we lose 0-1. DAMMMN YOUUU, STEVE BRUCE!!

i went Hayden for his work rate and breaking up the play…. Schar was poor today and his passing well off…. but…. 1-0 against a “top 6” team and first game…. lets not write the season off…. ASM needs to start against Norwich as they can’t defend…. him and Miggy would cause problems

what a poor performance..Rafa as much as I heated him for his boring football..this is beyond yawning..why cashley keeps on getting these yesteryear coaches is beyond me..just get in eddie howie and be done with it.Bruce is not gonna take us anywhere good. And this is evident from day 1. Really really poor overall. Team only played individually. Championship beckons…

the official gate was put at 47500 but that figure is based on tickets sold not who’s in the ground, actual attendance will be considerable lower than that figure.

SKY commentators said Jonjo Shelvey was furious with Bruce for taking him off yet folk on here saying Shelvey was injured????

Williams for Shelvey was a crazy substitution, even if Shelvey had a knock Williams looked total off the pace and unfit,
disappointed in Miguel Almiron and that pathetic dive,

    Wardy06,

    You may be right.

Three up top would cause problems for any team.

Our midfield should be Hayden plus Longstaff or Shelvey. If Brucie can get all three playing together, fine but if not one has to drop out.

Hail, we had several shots on target in the first half? Well since we only had 2 on target the entire match I don’t think that’s quite true is it? But hey we no longer play “boring” football anymore so who cares that we barely threatened probably the worst arsenal side to be fielded in the premiership.

Steve Bruce says he had defenders on the bench because pre-match Dummett had a knock & Lascelles wasn’t feeling 100%. Shelvey came off injured. Ki was fit but not selected due to the need for defenders in reserve

Dire performance by us today, this weakened Arsenal team posed little to no threat yet still bagged three points.Where was our intent,no threat whatsoever! If the parasite had spent the clubs money properly for a couple of years we would have wiped the floor against these muppets. You get what u pay for simple as that,no ambition,no clue, next to no investment, but I still think we will stay up.Hats off to the boycotters though.
